An Ensign



1 ... very happy to be out again tonight. We trust that we'll have good weather tonight. I prayed to God that He would stop the rains. We need it awful bad, but I believe souls need salvation worse than we need rain. Don't you think so? That's right.
So now, let's bow our heads just a moment as we speak to the Author of life.
Our Heavenly Father, we thank Thee for this grand privilege of coming together to worship Thee in this glorious, wonderful way that Thou has foreordained before the foundation of the world that we should worship Thee. We can hear our Master say that God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship in Spirit and in truth. We thank Thee for these great things. We pray, Lord, tonight, that the truth will be made manifest---the Spirit will get into the truth. And may we worship in God's provided way.
Save all the lost tonight, Lord. Our hearts just bleed for those who doesn't know this glorious salvation. We pray that You'll save every lost sinner here tonight. And those who are in need of the new birth, may He come like the rushing, mighty wind from heaven as He gave them the new baptism at the day of Pentecost. May it repeat again. Grant it, Lord.
Then heal the sick. Many are needy. We pray that You'll heal them.
And now, Father, as something new for the evening, for Thy servant to speak on this Gospel terms of the salvation---a man's soul and body; I pray that You'll help tonight in a special way. I ask these blessings in the name of Your beloved Child, Jesus Christ. Amen.

John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

2 [Break in tape.] ... many of you seen the Look Magazine, Life, and them carrying articles of how down in Yemen, and so forth. And they'd been bringing up thousands of Jews---going into the New Jerusalem, there, across Trans-Jordan. The Arabs have the Old Jerusalem, so in the New Jerusalem, they have brought in, literally, tens of thousands, millions, of Jews. See how the fig tree's putting forth its buds?
Now, the Stockholm church sent a million Bibles down there---New Testaments---to give to those Jews. They never even heard of such a thing as Jesus being on earth. They know nothing about it. And they, reading the Bible, they said, "If this be the Messiah, if Jesus is the Christ, let us see Him do the sign of the prophet---we'll accept it."
Oh, my! I'm just anxious to get about a half-a-million of those out there, if I could, around Mount Olive, somewhere, an outdoor meeting, and ask them that question. Tell them to read the New Testament, and see what the Messiah was; and if He doesn't repeat the same thing, then I'm a false prophet. And I speak the truth that He's the Messiah of God.
Pray for us, won't you? We need it very much.

3 Now, tonight... Usually Mr. Baxter...
[Break in tape.] ... for four hundred years in bondage, how Joseph---perfect type of the church today, perfect type of Christ. How that he was born among some brethren---half-brothers---and they despised him because he was born a spiritual man.
Like the true believer, tonight, being a member of the church---member of the same body---but a spiritual believer, rejected and despised. Amen.
Notice it. Joseph was born in the family, the same family of Israel---was one of the patriarchs---but was rejected because of his spiritual life. He was born a seer. He saw visions, and interpreted dreams. And his brethren hated him without a cause.
Prophecies always repeat themselves; you know that. Any scholar of the Bible knows. When like in over in Matthew 10, where it said, "Out of Egypt, I'll call My Son." That was really referring to the Scripture where God called Israel out of Egypt, but it was also referred of God calling His Son Jesus out of Egypt.

Matthew 2:15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

4 And as Joseph was a type of Christ, he's a type of the church, which is the body of Christ on earth today. Beautiful. Wish we had time to go into it---dig out those golden nuggets of the Bible.
Now watch. All the old things in the Old Testament just run parallel with the New. And notice how that he was rejected and despised, and how he was criticized by his brethren. And finally persecuted, even almost unto death. Was taken down in Egypt, and many of us know the story: how God was with him, no matter what they said about him. When they seen him come in the field, they said, "Here comes that dreamer. Let's see what he's going to say now."---making fun of him.
Just as the unbelieving Christian today will make fun of the believer---same thing---yet a member of the body by faith in Christ. Rejecting! Oh, what a horrible thing!

5 Now, then when they went down into Egypt, God was with him just the same. God'll be with His church regardless of what you say about it. There's somebody in your church who is real spiritual, really knows God; you say, "Why they're a little bit a fanatic."
I might speak on that tomorrow afternoon. All right. A fanatic. Just because they love God, they're peculiar to the world, but remember: They're blessed in the sight of God. God's people is a peculiar people---royal priesthood---offering spiritual sacrifices to God. That's the fruits of our lips giving praise to His name. Peculiar, odd, always been. Very much different from the world. Separated, called out. The very church ... the word church means "the separated, or called out."
Israel were the people of God until they come out of Egypt. Then they were the church of God, because they were called out, separated, made different---God calling Israel out. What a beautiful type---calling His church out today.
I think of Joseph when he died, what a memorial he left there. I think sometimes, that when he made mention, he said, "Now, don't bury me down here, but leave my bones here. Surely God will visit you someday. Then take my bones before you."
Where did he get that thought? God promised Abraham, his father, that they would sojourn four hundred years in a strange land, and then He would bring them out. And Joseph knew God kept His Word. The other patriarch, just bury him anywhere you wanted to, but not Joseph.

Genesis 15:13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

Genesis 50:25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.

6 Say, there's a little between the line you have to read in the Bible. Do you believe that? See. It's a love letter wrote to the church. There's no need of seminaries trying to teach it, because it's not known by minds of this world. "I've hid it from the eyes of the wise and prudent, and will reveal it to babes such as will learn." It's truth. That's the reason you got all these different forms, and kinds of religions, and churches. It's all right. Let it go. God's got... He's the one that takes care of the books.
Look. Notice, though, how it was. Let me give you a little something between the line. You know, sometimes when I get away over in overseas... I'm very fond of my wife. And she writes me a letter, and she says, "Dear Billy, I'm sitting here tonight. I'm thinking very much of you. I'm so-and-so..." That's what she's saying, but I'm reading right between the lines. I know it goes a little deeper than that.
And if you've got the Holy Spirit, you're in love with Christ, you can read between God's lines. There's something in there.

Matthew 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

Luke 10:21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.

7 While we're a little off the subject, just at this, but let me drop you a little something: Why did Joseph want his bones buried up there?
Notice. When Job---one of the oldest books in the Bible---when he died, he was getting ready ... or, before he died, he was sitting on an ash heap, scraping his boils. And his wife came and said, "Job, why don't you curse God, and die?"
He said, "Woman, thou speakest like a foolish woman." Now, he never said she was foolish, but she was speaking like one. He said, "The Lord gave, and the Lord taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord."
Some of his church members came down to give him some consolation---sat with their backs to him seven days, accusing him of being a secret sinner. Not much consolation there. But they accused him of sinning against God, but Job knowed his heart. He knowed he hadn't sinned against God.
Many times people say, "See all that sickness in that family? I told you they're not living right."
Now, God does do that sometimes, but not every time it's God doing that, because God, here, was dealing with a saint---a trying and proving of a saint. And every man that cometh to God must first be tried of God. And if he can't stand chastisement, then you become an illegitimate child, and not the child of God. Trials, to try our faith. Isn't that marvelous? God would give us those trials and tests to prove us.

Job 1:21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

Job 2:10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

Job 2:13 So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great.

Hebrews 12:8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

8 Now, notice. This is beautiful. Then after awhile, Job's sitting there knowing his heart, little Elihu came down---which we know the Hebrew word Elah, which came from God, meaning that "God's representative"; otherwise, it was a representative of the Lord Jesus Christ come down, speaking to Job. Said, "Now, look, Job, you're accusing God wrongly." Said, "But, now..." He spoke to him, and he said, "Now, you're looking out upon the natural things here," and so forth. And he said, "Job..."
Job begin to speak to him about the flower, how it dies. In the spring of the year, it comes back up again. If a tree dies, it lives again. But it said, "Man lays down, he giveth up the ghost, he wastes away. His sons come to mourn his death, he perceive it not. Where is he?"

Job 14:7 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

Job 14:10 But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?

9 He said, "You've been noticing all those things..." (I'm putting it kind of in a drama-child form to the little ones.) He said, "Now, you've been looking at that, but remember, that flower or that tree never sinned against God. Man sinned against God so it separated him from God. But there's coming One someday who'll stand in the breach between a sinful man and a holy God, and bridge the way---put a hand on a sinful man and a holy God---bridge the way"---speaking of Christ.
The prophet saw it. He stood on his feet. The lightning begin to flash, the thunders roar. Job said, "I know my Redeemer liveth. And at the last days He'll stand on the earth. Though the skinworms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God."
Watch. When he died years later, he made a specification of where to bury him. Along come father Abraham. And when Sarah died, he went close to the same land that Job was buried in. He bought a piece of ground. He wouldn't let them give it to him; he bought that ground for a burying place. And he buried Sarah near Job. And when Abraham died, he slept in the same grave with Sarah. And Abraham begot Isaac. And when Isaac died, he slept with Abraham. And Isaac begot Jacob. And when Jacob died down in Egypt...
But before he died (Oh, I just love this.), he said, "Come here, Joseph." He had a crippled hip where an Angel touched him from wrestling. Look at that. On one side of the river one night, a big strong backslider; on the next morning, on the other side of the river, a limping prince. He'd wrestled with God. He said, "Come here and lay your hands upon my hip, and swear to me that you'll not bury me down here (Wonder why?), but take me back up there, and let me be buried with Abraham and Isaac." Why?

Genesis 25:10 The field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife.

Genesis 47:29 And the time drew nigh that Israel must die: and he called his son Joseph, and said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt:

Genesis 49:31 There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife; and there I buried Leah.

Job 19:25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

Job 19:26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

10 Then along come Joseph. He said, "Now, wait." They put his bones in a coffin. (I had my hand on an old lead coffin, here, not long ago, they supposed to had his bones in.) He said, "When you go out of here, bury my bones up there. Don't bury me down here." I wonder why? It isn't written in the Bible, but they were prophets. They could read between the lines. They knew that that first fruits of the resurrection wasn't coming in Egypt. It was coming in Palestine.
And when Jesus came on earth, and they done to Him what they said they would do, and when He died, and rose on the third day... Matthew 27, said "Many of the bodies of the saints that slept in the dust of the earth, rose and come out of the grave, and entered into the city."---Abraham, Isaac, Jacob.
Therefore, have anything you wish to, but bury me in Christ. For those that are in Christ will God bring with Him at His coming. Hide away from the world. What a beautiful picture! There's between the lines. What the Bible says, and what you see in between the lines. Goes right on with the rest of the Word, but it just fills up the gap, where you wonder why they was doing it.

Genesis 50:25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.

Matthew 27:52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

Matthew 27:53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

11 Now, on our pilgrim journey, we notice out in the wilderness, why, they begin to sin after God had blessed them, and brought them through the Red Sea. Isn't it strange, though, that the children of Israel, in their journey, God led them---the first thing---right into a death trap? Right up to the Red Sea! Pharaoh's army coming, pursuing---the mountains on one side, the sea had them cut off. But God's path went through the sea.
Many times, God let's us get right up like that.
Then He looked down through that pillar of fire, and the sea rolled back, and they went across. God made a way of escape. He always will, in every instance.
Notice. Then they went right straight to the Wilderness of Zin. Isn't it strange?---from one trial to another.
Some through the waters,
Some through the flood,
Some through deep trials,
But all through the blood.

12 God's way leads, sometimes, right through every briar patch, right up over the hill, down through the rugged places---sickness, trials---but God brings them more than victorious through them all.
Notice. They begin to sin and murmur against God, and against Moses. And God told Moses, when he went to praying, interceding for the people... Now, why did Moses intercede?
Now, listen closely. God had appeared to father Abraham years before that (in Genesis 22), in the name of Jehovah-jireh when he was offering up his only begotten son. And a lamb bleated in the wilderness, and God stayed his hand. And the name of God was called Jehovah-jireh, meaning "the Lord will provide Himself a sacrifice." Amen.
Oh, this is beautiful. I just love the Word.

Genesis 22:14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.

13 Notice. Then right in that crucial moment, serpents had come in among the people and were biting them. And Moses was taught in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and they were boasting physicians far beyond in many things than what we are today---had our doctors skinned by hundreds of miles. But, Doctor Moses had no cure for that snake bite. Nothing could be done. There they was, way in the wilderness. And Moses prayed, and God came to him and told him the remedy for it.
I like that. What is He? God---Jehovah-jireh, "The Lord will provide---make a way." I love it.
Notice. Then God told Moses in this type ... or, symbol, said, "Go make a serpent out of brass and put it on a pole."
Now, the serpent in a symbol meant "sin." The serpent represented the serpent from the Garden of Eden, already judged. Snake, turned from a animal. Now, he wasn't a reptile. The Bible said he was the most subtle of all the beasts of the field. He wasn't a reptile, he was a beast. And he turned to a serpent on his belly. And that snake represented sin judged. And made out of brass, meant "divine judgment." Brass means "divine judgment" in the Bible.
See, the people were sinning, because they didn't believe the prophet. They were chiding against him, and against God. They had sinned. And because of sin, serpents had bit them and they were dying

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Numbers 21:8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.

14 And all sickness is caused by sin. That's right. Before we had sin, we had no sickness. But sin ... or, sickness is an attribute of sin. Sickness came because of sin. Maybe not what you done---inherited: three or four generations it'll follow. God said so.
Notice. And so God put up this ... had Moses to put up this ensign to Israel. And when he lifted it up, sickness and sin... A compound reason for both sickness and sin. Jehovah-jireh was providing an ensign that represented that their sin was forgiven, and a healing for their sickness. Do you get it? Serpent represented "sin judged."

15 Brass...
See, brass is one thing that you can't tamper with. Brass cannot be tempered. You find some form of tempered brass, your tithings for six months will pay my way for fifty years, around the world, missionary---if you can find something will temper brass. Can't be tempered. Goes to show that God represented brass as divine judgment. And God's divine judgment cannot be tempered. God is the same yesterday, today, forever.
Here you are. I want you to get it now.
Look. Brass... The brazen altar where the sacrifices were burned: judgment---divine judgment.
And in the days of Elisha, when he went out and looked at the skies, he said they looked like brass. Divine judgment upon a rebellious nation. God have mercy. The skies sometimes look brass around here in America. Divine judgment---hardly can break through---judgment.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

16 Notice. Then the ensign was lifted up. A beautiful picture of this is pictured in Ruth. Many of you just read Ruth as maybe a little love story in the Bible---which, it is. But, oh, what a beautiful story that is representing Christ and His church! How that Naomi went over into the land of Moab. And there, her husband died. Her two sons died, leaving widows. On the road back---the beautiful picture. Listen. Ruth the Moabite, a Gentile, carried away with dumb idols, like we were.
And when it came time, Naomi kissed her, and said, "Go back to your people, and with your people. I'll go along."
But she said, "Let your people be my people. Let me live where you live. Let me die where you die. And let me be buried where you're buried. And let your God be my God."
Beautiful picture of the young Gentile church coming in by the old Jewish church---the Jews who packed the Gospel first. Oh, how marvelous!

17 Let's get the picture right quick while we're running along this line, if we can.
Now, notice. And she would not ... but she went on. And did you notice, Naomi returned in barley season. Just exactly at the right time: when they were gathering barley. And Boaz was her kinsman, and he was harvesting his great field---the lord of the harvest. And Ruth, the young gleaner, went out into the field to glean---a type of the Gentile church gleaning. Amen. Picking up just what they could. The gleaners going ahead.
Oh, they say, "You all haven't got the Pentecostal blessing."
"Oh, yeah. We're gleaning, alright."
Look at the lord of the harvest when he looked down and seen the little woman ready to glean, and pick up what she could---a little blessing here, and one there---which was life to her.
Beautiful type of the church today.
He said to the reapers, "Every once in a while, drop a handful." I like to find them, don't you? "Just drop a handful for her," said, "because she's found favor with me." Amen. I like that. She might be an offcast, a holy roller, whatever you want to call her, but "just drop a few handfuls now and then. I like her."

18 Said, "Who is she? Where'd she come from?"
And when the harvest was over, the great lord of the harvest---which was Boaz, a representative of Christ to the church; he'd fallen in love with her, and he wanted to marry her. But, before he could marry her, he had to redeem Naomi's lost estate. And before he could redeem her estate, the law---the Levitical law---was he had to be a kinsman---a near kinsman.
When I think of that... The law required him to be a near kinsman---her closest kinsman. And he must be worthy, a man of honor. And he must be able to do it financially. And then he must make an ensign, if he'd redeemed all she had.
Notice. A kinsman... God... Man was made in the image of God, first, and God is a Spirit. And then, in order to redeem that man, God had to come down in the form of sinful flesh, and become a kinsman---Christ. Amen. Christ was made a kinsman. God was made a kinfolks to us---flesh and blood like we are. Amen.
What a beautiful story! The whole Bible just ties together everywhere. Nothing of it out of way; all ties right together.

19 Boaz had to be Naomi's kinsman. God, to redeem the church, must be a kinsman. And He came down, taken on Himself the form of sinful flesh. Amen. He was worthy. He was God's Son. He had to be worth it. He had all heavens and all the earth.
Notice. Boaz then gathered Israel. And remember, the ensign had to be lifted up outside the gates of the city. I want you to get it. And Boaz came out there, and brought the Israel elders, and said, "Now, if anyone has got anything to say, let them say it; and see this day that I have redeemed Naomi's lost estate." And he kicked off his shoe, and threw it amongst the Israelites, which was the custom---an ensign that he had redeemed Naomi and all she had.

Ruth 4:8 Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it for thee. So he drew off his shoe.

Ruth 4:9 And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi.

20 What a beautiful type of God, made flesh and dwelt among us! Come down to suffer the death and the penalty. The innocent for the guilty. The Lovely One for the unlovely. How it'd break a man's heart to think of such, that God had to do for lost sinners like you and I. An ensign must be lifted up.
You say, "Brother Branham, you mean there a place---that snake ... Jesus?"
Yes. It represented Jesus---that brass serpent---the ensign. For Christ, knowing no sin, yet was made sin for us.
And look at Him now when He was beaten. God's just judgment had to be paid. "The day you eat thereof, that day you die." God's Word has to be kept.
There He is, standing in Pilate's judgment hall, with mockery spit hanging over His face. The hands that raised the widow's son, spoke peace to the harlot. The eyes that looked so tenderly upon the crowds was now bleeding. Blood running down His face, and mockery spit from church members and soldiers.
There He goes. Look at Him. I see little red dots in His robe. Them little red dots begin to get bigger as He goes up the hill. After awhile, they all go together. Then you hear a slapping on His side. It's His bloody robe.
Then at Golgotha, they nailed His hands up, and lifted Him up as an ensign. He redeemed the church---redeemed her lot. He said, "Just as Moses lifted up the brass serpent, so must the Son of Man be lifted up."
Why? A compound reason: Because she had sinned and was sick, and He lifted it up for their salvation and healing. And "He was wounded for our transgressions; with His stripes we were healed." The ensign lifted up! Beautiful!

Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

21 There's the Son of God, lifted up for your ensign.
"As Moses lifted up the brass serpent in the wilderness, so must..." And just the same way, same cause, same thing. Then what did He do when He lifted up there ... when God lifted up the ensign to the world? He showed to this church tonight... He showed to the world that He had redeemed all the lost estate of the church and the people.
And what is our loss? If you've lost your salvation, He's the ensign for the sins of the world. What a pity! Then do you mean to tell me that you could deny divine healing? There it is in the Scripture. That's what Jesus said. "Just as Moses lifted the brass serpent, so must the Son of Man be lifted up for sin and sickness."
And He's here tonight. He's still lifted up. And He was put into the grave, and God lifted Him up. And His Spirit is among us tonight, doing signs and wonders. Do you believe it?

John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

22 Now, He's ready to make anybody ... save anybody that wants to be saved.
How could you get a mental picture of Calvary and remain a sinner? How could you look at Him going up Golgotha, the hill, to be crucified in your place?---a guilty sinner---and see the precious Son of God going up the hill, dying in your stead? How could you look at His back bleeding, when He was striped across His back for our healing, then deny divine healing? God have mercy.
Let me, O Lord, live. Let me testify to it. If the whole world turns it down, yet, Lord, I believe You. I still believe it. If I tonight ... if I would preach, and a thousand people get converted, be filled with the Holy Spirit, and die; in fifty years from now, return back and say, "Brother Branham, don't go that way, because it's not right.", I'd still say, "Let me die in Christ Jesus."
If I prayed for a thousand people, and all of them died in the morning; tomorrow night, I could preach divine healing, and pray for the sick just as easy as I can tonight, because it's God's Word and it can't fail. It's God's Word. God has given it to us. Don't bypass it. Embrace it.
Claim the promise. Say, "It's mine, O Lord. You died for me, and I'm willing tonight to lift myself up as an example and a testimony. I want to be an ensign to You. I want the world to know that You're my Saviour. I want everybody to know that I lift myself up as a Christian. I believe You. And I'll go testify, and tell everyone that You saved me."
And if you're sick, I'd get to my feet, and say, "I accept my healing. And as Jesus Christ was lifted up for an ensign, striped for my healing, so will I lift my testimony up, myself, and say, 'By His stripes, I am healed.'" Amen. Oh, what love!

23 Now, look. The Israelites looked at the brass serpent, and were healed. Looked at the brass serpent. First, forgiven of sin; and then, healed.

It's only as you look, you live.
Let's look tonight to God's ensign: the Son of God. It's been preached down through the years---the power of the Holy Spirit---that His Spirit coming in here, and showing signs and wonders, and miracles, that He is still the same Lord Jesus. How can you escape the wrath of God if you would doubt such things as God would do?
Shall we bow our heads just a moment?

24 The great Master of life... You say, "Brother Branham, I never exactly ever looked at it that way. I never thought about what a price was paid for my salvation. Here, I've been neglecting it all the time. Just before you have the healing service, Brother Branham, I want to lift a little ensign to Christ, and let Him know that this sinner down here on earth that He died for, I want Him to know I recognize Him tonight. I want Him to have mercy on me. And I'm not yet saved, but I want Him to save me. I'm just going to lift up my hand as a little ensign to Him that He lifted up so much for me." Will you put up your hand, right now, while everybody's got their heads bowed?
God bless you, lady. God bless you, sir. You, back there, way back in the back, up the middle rows, way back, I see you with your hands up. All around. Over to my left. Put your hand up, say, "Brother Branham, I'm raising my hand to Christ, who'll see me. I don't want to die a sinner. I want to be remembered in a word of prayer right now."
God bless you, sir. God bless you. God bless you. Oh, my! Dozens of hands everywhere. "I don't want to die a sinner, Brother Branham. I believe that I've sat in this meeting here, I've seen His Person as He's worked marvelous, slipping along through the people here, revealing the thoughts of their mind, and telling what they were done. And I hear the Gospel preached by the ministers, and I've rejected it a long time, but tonight I want Christ to know that, really in my heart, something's speaking."
That's God, sinner friend. "No man can come to me except My Father draws him." Would you, once more, everywhere? Everybody keep your head bowed. Let me see it, alone. Lift up your hand, say, "Brother Branham, pray for me that I'll never have to enter the courts of God a sinner. I want to be saved."
Way up, way up high, now, everybody, over the building. God bless you. God bless you, everywhere. That's right. Now, while you have your heads bowed, I want to ask God to help you.

John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

25 Father, dozens of hands up everywhere, up and down these aisles. Sinner men and women, boys and girls; they want to live, Lord. Many of them, I notice, are old, some of them, gray, knowing one of these days, we must step beyond this veil. We're walking on the brittle threads of life.
Lord Jesus, I pray, at the close of this service, that these people will be so convinced of the Gospel of Christ by the Bible and by the power of His resurrection, they'll come forward and give their hearts to Thee and accept Thee as their Saviour.
God, don't let any of them slip out of life without being saved. May this be the night and the time when they'll do this. I know You're dealing with them, for Your only beloved Son said, "No man can come except the Father draws him. And he that comes to Me, I will in no wise cast out. And he that heareth My words, believeth on Him that sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life."---just because we believed on the Son of God. What a pity, Lord, to see a great world going to wreck for that one thing: rejecting the Lord Jesus. Grant that many tonight will be saved.
And now, may the Holy Spirit come and send the Angel of the Lord to Your humble servant. As I pray for the sick, may each one look yonder to Calvary, say, "That's my ensign. I believe with all my heart. And I'm going to believe my healing. Tonight I'm going out of here rejoicing and happy, and claim my healing." Grant it, Lord, for we ask it in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

26 When I come to the platform tonight, the pastor asked me---one of the pastors here---if I would stay over till next Sunday. I told him I would ask our Lord. And if the people and everything seems to be all right, maybe He'll direct me that way.
We've had a hard start [break in tape.]
... a brother's shoulders, and said, "If I would've took my message to the red-hot Pentecostals, I wouldn't have been tore up like I am today, and dying." Tried to sell it to a bunch of people who didn't know nothing about God, and wasn't born again, so they just ... nothing. Just worried the man, and caused a fungus growth that turned to cancer and killed him.
Be sure you're right with God, friend.
Notice. He said, "They had the little Moody Bible School up there, sent down the little quartet, and they were singing for him: Nearer My God To Thee.
And Paul, if you knew him, he was quite a fellow to cut up---a whole lot like Brother Baxter. He said, "Who's dying, you or I?" He said, "Raise them curtains and sing me some good snappy Gospel songs."
So, they began to sing, Down At The Cross.
He said, "Where's Luke?" That was his brother. He and Luke worked together like my son and I. Luke come in; he was in the next room, crying. He took a hold of Paul's hands, he said, "Luke, we've come a long ways together, buddy." He said, "But think of it, in five minutes from now, I'll be standing in the presence of Jesus Christ, clothed in His righteousness."

27 All you have to do is believe. And Paul Rader wrote this song in Fort Wayne. Was any of you at the Fort Wayne meeting when I was there? I was sitting in his study room, there, where Redigar ... Mr. Redigar, the gallant hero of faith.
Years ago, when I was a little bitty boy, his daughter had been in the insane institution two years. Perfectly insane. They had her in my coal shed, down there behind the church---sitting in there, pulling her beautiful hair down, saying, "A nickel and a penny; and a nickel and a penny."---like that. Insane. Her sister died in the same condition.
When I heard that Redigar's daughter was laying in my coal shed back there, and I went back, and there was the lovely Miss Redigar---sweet, lovely woman---sitting there. Said, "Now, honey, don't do that."
I come in the door. I noticed a vision break before her. I could think of her old daddy who died in the harness. And the evil spirit had caught the girl. The Lord gave a rebuke. Said, "Come out of the girl."
She looked up and said, "Mother, where're we at?"
She's married and got children now. From that very hour, God made her whole. That's Mrs. B. E. Redigar, the owner of the Fort Wayne Gospel Tabernacle. Many of you know them. Write and ask her...
What was it? Look and live. The grace of Christ...

[Break in tape.] ... reverent, now. Now, I want you to do this for me. How many's been in the meetings before? Let's see your hand.
[Break in tape.] ... Jesus was here on earth. The things that Jesus would do when He was here on earth, He said, "It's not Me that doeth the works, it's My Father that dwelleth in Me. He doeth the works." Is that right?
And then, in Saint John 19 ... or, Saint John 5, when He passed by the gate Bethesda---the pool---there were great multitudes of lame, halt, blind, withered people. Is that right, Christians? And He never healed a one of them, yet full of love and compassion. Went over to a man laying on a pallet and healed him. The Jews questioned Him.
Well, listen what Jesus said, now. Saint John 5:19, Scripture: "Verily, verily I say unto you, the Son can do nothing in Himself, but what He sees the Father doing, that doeth the Son likewise, for the Father worketh, and I worketh hitherto."
In other words, He said this: "I can't do nothing till God shows me what to do. Then I do that. Nothing else I can do." Is that Scripture? All right. Then, Jesus Christ never performed one miracle until God told Him to do it---till He had a vision---God telling Him. He said, "The Father showeth the Son. Whatsoever things the Son sees the Father doing."---sees the Father doing (present tense), then He goes, does it just like the Father said.

John 5:2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.

John 5:3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

John 5:4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

John 5:5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.

John 5:6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?

John 5:7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

29 Now, He said, "A little while and the world will see me no more (the world's the unbeliever), the world see me no more, yet you'll see me, for I'll be with you, even to the end of the world." That's Connersville, Indiana---everywhere else.
Now, if He rose from the dead, His Spirit---God Himself in the Holy Spirit---Jesus Christ moving among the people. And He set some in the church, preachers, teachers, prophets," and so forth. Is that right? For what purpose? For the man to glorify himself? For the edification of the church, to bring the church to a living faith in Christ. He raised Him up for that purpose.
Now, if Jesus' words are true, and Paul in Hebrews 13:8 said, "Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever," then if He said the world wouldn't see Him, but the believer would, and He'd be with them; He said, "Now, the things that I do, you shall do also."
Now, He knew their thoughts. Is that right? He knew what they were thinking about. He perceived their thoughts. When the Father showed Him a vision where a fish had a coin in its mouth, where there was...

30 Now, there was some blind boys followed Him one day out in the street. They said, "Have mercy on us, Lord. Have mercy." He just ignored them, and walked on.
He went into the house. And they brought the blind boys to Him. And He turned around and touched them. Said, "According to your faith..." No vision. "According to your faith, be it unto you." "As thou has believed, so shall it be." Is that right?
The woman touched the hem of His garment. He said, "Thy faith has healed thee," see.
Now, you look at Him yonder at Calvary tonight---the ensign. And your faith in His finished works is what heals you. Now, His Spirit is here; you couldn't hide your life from Him. But, He can't heal you, for He's already did that. When He lifted up the ensign, He redeemed you from your sickness. He redeemed you from your sin.
That seems to be coming back to me tonight, somehow. Somebody here doubting that. I'll find you in a few minutes. All right.

Matthew 9:22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

Matthew 9:27 And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou son of David, have mercy on us.

Matthew 9:29 Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.

Mark 5:34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

31 I was talking to a man here not long ago. He said, "Preacher, do you believe that divine healing is by the atonement?"
I said, "Yes, sir."
He said, "Why, if I prove to you that's wrong, will you believe what Isaiah said that about...?"
I said, "Yes, sir."
Said, "If I prove to you that's wrong, will you accept it?"
I said, "Yes, sir. If you prove it's wrong, God knows I want to be right with God." I said, "I certainly want to be right with God."
So, he said, "If I prove to you it's wrong, then you'll accept it?"
"Yes."
He said, "Matthew 8," said, "when they brought ... Jesus brought all the ... they brought the sick to Him, that He heal them, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah."
Why, I said, "You mean to apply that to the atonement? 'He was wounded for our transgressions. With His stripes He bore our infirmities.'"
Said, "Yes."
Why, I said, "Then if that be the truth, the atonement had more power before it was made. That was a year and six months before Jesus died. Then the atonement had more power before it was made than after it was in the force." I said, "Who did Peter heal? The man at the gate called Beautiful. What kind of a power did he have?"
He said, "Only the twelve apostles were the only ones that had that power."
I said, "Shame on you. And have a doctor's degree." I said, "I got a boy at home, eight-years-old, knows better than that---know better Scripture than that." I said, "Do you say only the twelve apostles?"
He said, "Yes."
I said, "What about Philip? He wasn't an apostle, he was just a deacon. And he went down there and healed the sick, and cast out devils, and had a great revival. Many more, too."

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Matthew 8:17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

32 Notice. But, he said... He said, "Well, Brother Branham, if divine healing was included in the atonement, it would be so killed till there wouldn't even be any pain."
I said, "Is there temptation?"
He said, "Yes."
I said, "Then, there's pain." Temptation. If the atonement killed sin so bad, there's no more temptation then. But it's by faith you overcome your temptation. It's by faith you overcome your pain. It's in the atonement. I said, "We won't argue with that. I'll ask you one thing. Is divine healing in the Word?"
He said, "Yes."
You have to believe that, because Jesus said, "The things that I do, and whatsoever things you desire," whether it's divine healing, what it is, "when you pray, believe you receive it."
Said, "It's in the Word, but it's not in the atonement."
I said, "Then if it's in the Word, it's over the atonement."
"Oh," he said, "Brother Branham, ridiculous."
And a great singer, and a great radio minister was standing there, too. And this fellow was quite a character. And he said, "Why, Brother Branham," said, "that's ridiculous. You mean the Word is over the atonement?"
I said, "Yes, sir." God's got to keep His Word. Said, "I just believe what God said is the truth."
He said, "Why, no."

Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

33 I said, "Brother, there was a king, one time, that had a kingdom. And he had the rules and regulations. He made all the ... everything was to be made in that kingdom. And he had a penalty for a certain sin. And a slave committed that sin." I was giving him a little parable.
Now, I said, "Then he came up. And the king said, 'Well, there's not one thing if you do... The penalty of that sin is to die the death.' The poor fellow was shaking. He said, 'Now, wait. What can I do for you before I take your life?'
"He said, 'Give me a glass of water.'
"He gave him a glass of water, and the poor fellow couldn't hold it. He knowed his head was going to be cut off, so he was shaking like that.
"He said, 'Now, wait a minute.' He said, 'I'm not going to take your life, till you drink that glass of water.' The slave poured it on the ground."
I said, "Now, what's the king going to do?"
"Oh," he said, "that was a slip-up on the king."
I said, "It was? Then God's so loose that He put it in His Word without making an atonement for a slip-up on God?"
Oh, no. I said, "It's in the atonement, brother." That's right. When it's in the Word, God's got to keep His Word. If He's a man of His Word, He'll keep His Word. He said, "Whatsoever things you desire when you pray, believe you receive it, and you shall have it." That's right. It'll be given to you. All right. Just believe it.

Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

34 All right. Bring the lady. Come ahead, lady.
[Break in tape.] ... little cap on. I guess she's Amish. And so, then when... I never seen her in my life. She's a total stranger to me. I never knew her.
You don't know me, do you, lady? You don't know me. You didn't before, just till now. All right. Now, I want you to come right around here, lady, so I can get... I don't want to get too far from the microphone, see, because my voice sometimes goes down.
If you notice, see, you're in two dimensions at one time---two phases. You're here, and you're looking at something that's happened, maybe, back when you was a little girl---something that went on in your life, somewhere. And then you're at two places at the same time; and I'm talking, yet I'm somewhere else, yet I'm conscious. In body form, I'm standing on the platform. That's what makes me so weak and tears me up.
Remember the prophet Daniel who had a vision one day, and was troubled many days over it of his head?
Remember that Angel came down on the pool, and the first person got healed, why, all the virtue went off of the water? And you had to wait for a month, or more, maybe, for it to come back---another season---whatever was considered a season. Do you remember that in the Bible?

Daniel 7:15 I Daniel was grieved in my spirit in the midst of my body, and the visions of my head troubled me.

John 5:4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

35 Now, I'm just talking to you like our Lord talked to the woman at the well at Samaria.
Now, you got a human spirit, just as I have. And there's... We're perfect strangers to each other, but in a way... Now, just look at the people out there. Several hundreds of people sitting there. Each one of them is a supernatural being inside, and just a pull of spirits.
And then I have to contact your life, just as Jesus turned and perceived what the thoughts of the people was, and so forth. He stood and talked to that woman. Then He went right straight and told her where her trouble was. Is that right? Do you remember where it was at? It's found in Saint John the fourth chapter. The woman at the well---Samaria. Do you remember reading that?
He's wonderful, isn't He? Do you believe that He rose up from the dead? You do. And that He's living among men tonight---the same Jesus. Then, if it's the same Jesus, He'll do just like He did in that day---His Spirit among His people. Is that right? Just the same thing. That's good.
And I'm...

John 4:16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

John 4:17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

John 4:18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

36 It's so hard preaching, and then, trying to... See. If you just pray with me---the believers. Yes, here it comes now, see.
You just was a little bit afraid, wasn't you? You're just a little nervous. That's what done it. I see you just holding yourself back. But, look. You have a condition. Your condition is an inward trouble of the stomach. Isn't that right? That's right. It's a stomach trouble. It's been some time. It's caused from a nervous condition that makes you have a sour stomach, and cramps, and so forth, and spit up stuff in your mouth which is sour. It's an acid. It's gastric conditions in the stomach, you see, causing peptic ulcer. It makes your food come up. A little gurgitation comes up like that to it.
Pretty close to what He said, wasn't it? How did I know that if we're strange...? Just revealed by God is right. That's right.

37 Now, if we would talk a little longer, maybe He would tell me something else of you. There's lots of people here to be prayed for. But you've got to have... Something struck your mind, then. You got a husband that's not well, too. Isn't that right? If that's right, raise up your hand. Yes, sir. He has a bladder trouble, doesn't he? Is that right? Raise up your hand.
Do you believe that's the Spirit of God that you're hearing? Do you believe that God is reveal...? It's coming from some supernatural resource, isn't it? See, it's a little against your teaching that you've been taught. That's right, now. You know it, so you can't lie, because I... You wouldn't do it anyhow, because I'm in the presence ... you're in the presence of His being.

38 Here's another thing, I see there's an accident just happened in your family sometime ago. Wasn't it? A boy. He got hit with an automobile about two years ago. He's got something wrong with his head. It caused his memory and things. Is that right? ["Yes, it is."] Now, do you believe? ["Yes, I do."] Then come here.
Almighty God, Author of life, give mercy and life unto this poor woman. Heal her, Lord. And let her loved ones be made well also, Lord. May this be the night of nights for them. And may, oh God, all that back... Let them walk in the light, as the light comes to them, Lord. And may they be called Your children, Lord, and serve You, and love You, and be made well in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
I want to ask you, mother... What you heard talking then, it was my voice, but it wasn't me using it. Now, what He told you is the truth. And now, you go and believe just what has been said, and you'll get well. God bless you. The Lord be... Go this way if you want to. [Brother Branham speaks aside, "Are you one of the ushers, sir? Go help.] [ Break in tape.]

39 Just believe with all your heart. God knows all things. But if you will, be real reverent now, while it's kind of...
How do you do, sir? I suppose that we are strangers, too. Are we, sir? ["That's right."] I never met you in my life, but God has knowed both of us since we were born. ["That's right."] And He's fed you, He's fed me. And here we are this far along in life, and someday we've got to stand in His presence to give an account for the deeds that's done in our body. And we should be really reverent people. Shouldn't we?
Sir, you're here tonight on a mission, not for yourself. You're here for a mission for a loved one, and I believe it's your wife. Is that right? ["That's right."] Your wife has undergone some major operations and she's at the point of death. ["That's right."] Is that the truth? Have you got a handkerchief in your pocket? ["Yes, I have."] Hand it to me just a minute.

40 Almighty God, when Israel was cornered there, and the Red Sea before them, the mountains, Pharaoh's army pushing. But You looked down through that pillar of fire with angry eyes, said one of the poets, and the Red Sea got scared and moved back, because Israel was on the homeward march to the promised land.
And God, tonight, this poor woman laying there, very low, near unto death, she's done all that she can do. The doctors, Your servants, has done all they can do. Everybody's done all they can do. And now, Thou art Jehovah-jireh, "The Lord's provided sacrifice."
In this crucial moment, I pray, Lord, as in the Bible, we're taught that they'd taken from the body of Paul, handkerchiefs, or aprons, and unclean spirits went out, and people were healed. We know we're the Saint Paul, but we know that You're still the same Lord Jesus who honored the faith of the people.
Then, Lord, I send this handkerchief to that dying woman, and ask for her life to be spared in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
Don't doubt. Let no one touch that handkerchief. And put it on your wife's underneath garment next to her heart. Get down by the side of her and pray. Confess everything that you know, and promise God to live for Him. Let us know a few days later what's happened to her. God bless you. God be with you now. Go, and don't doubt. Just believe all things, and God will certainly perform.

Acts 19:12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

41 Do you believe this? Have faith. God will certainly grant the things that He has promised. For He cannot fail. He's God.
Now, sister, I want to speak to you just a moment. And now, to this audience here, I suppose I don't know you. As far as I know, I never seen you in my life. But God does know you. But this woman being a stranger to me, the Lord knows that. I'm probably a stranger to her, unless she's been in a meeting somewhere and seen me. We don't know one another at all.
Well, if the Holy Spirit will reveal this woman's life, and me claiming to you of being His servant, that is the Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ that raised from the dead is here among us tonight, and God will perform just exactly what He said He would do, claiming and proving that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

42 Now, listen. To you that would resent it, maybe your teaching could have been a little bit off. Remember, the Pharisees in them days thought they were just exactly right. They were holy, renowned, fundamental, religious men. And they rejected the Jesus. They thought they knowed just how He must be. But God always confounds the wise and prudent.
Well now, remember, if this would happen to be right, and you would be wrong, you'd be blaspheming the Holy Spirit. You'd be doomed forever, without mercy in this world or the world to come.
You have prostate trouble, don't you, sir? That's your wife sitting next to you, with rectal trouble too. Isn't that right? Is that true? ["Hallelujah!"] You were both healed right then, while I was talking. You don't need your prayer... You don't have prayer cards, anyhow. You don't need them.
The little lady sitting right next to there, also. She has been sick. A kidney trouble. But, just have faith in God, there. God'll make you well.

Now, lady, I want you to look here at me, right at me, just a moment. I want to talk to you as your brother. Now, we're perfect and total strangers to each other. And the Lord Jesus...
Little lady, you had a nerve condition, sitting right there by that man, haven't you? You've been real nervous for a long time. Isn't that right? He healed you just then, so you're well now. You can go home and be well. God bless you. Have mercy, is my prayer for you.
Now, be reverent.
No, you don't live here. You've come a long ways from here. Isn't that right? You come from the state of Illinois. Is that right? About a two-hundred-mile journey you've took. Is that right? And you're suffering with something wrong in your lungs---a lung condition.
And say, I see you trying to get out of a bed of a morning. You have an arthritis condition, too. It makes you stiff. If that's true? Do you believe Christ will make you well? Look to me. You know what I mean. Like Peter and John said, "Look on us." Elijah the prophet said, "If it wasn't I respected the presence of Jehoshaphat, I wouldn't even look to you."

2 Kings 3:14 And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee.

Acts 3:4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.

44 Now, believe.
You've been in a prayer meeting before. It wasn't mine; it was a man kind of heavy-set, chunky-built, with a kind of a brown hair. And he kind of has a frown on his face, like, very sharp speaking man at the meeting. Is that right? If that's right, raise your hand. I seen it come before me. It can't be nothing else. God can't lie.
The doctor told you to go home. I see him telling you, said, "The only thing for you to do is take a long rest in the hospital." Or, wait, I see a prairie. He said you could go west if you wanted to. Is that right? ["That's right."] Is that what he told you? ["We did everything that was said."] That's right. That's exactly right.
You have a little son at home, don't you? And he has a lung trouble too, doesn't he? If that's right, raise up your hand. ["Yes."] That's right. Come here, just a moment, please.
Almighty God, Author of life, giver of every good gift, send Thy blessings upon this woman, upon her household. While she's standing here, and the Holy Spirit moving through her now, may she go home and get well, Father. As Your servant, I bless her, with my hands laying upon her, in the name of Jesus Christ.
And, Satan, you who've bound her, done all this evil, we come tonight as the Christian people in the representative name of Jesus Christ. And we adjure thee by Him that you leave the woman, and bother her no more. Come out of her, through Jesus Christ's name.
Now, return. Don't doubt nothing. You'll get well. God bless you.

45 All right. Come. Do you believe? ["Yes, I believe."] If the Holy Spirit will just tell you what's wrong... You're conscious that something's going on. That's the Angel of the Lord. Did you see His picture? That's just what's waiting over you, now. Your trouble's in your back. Is that right? ["That's right."] Now, go ahead. You're going to get well. He's blessed you. God be with you, and bless you.

Do you believe? ["I do."] With all your heart? ["I do."] Just a moment. [Break in tape.]
... right across the fence, there, has got a back trouble too. Isn't that right, sir? You was healed just then when that man was healed. That spirit called out for help. God bless you.
You were praying, wasn't you, sir? I thought you were. I seen someone praying with a back like that, and I heard that scream come out. I looked back, and I seen this man, then I heard it call, and I seen a light hang over you. So, it must be that it was you.

46 That lady sitting right down there at the other side, there, has a nervous trouble has been bothering her---right down there, in that black hair. Isn't that right, sister? Yes, sir. You've had nervous trouble. Isn't that right? You just got healed just then. God makes you well.
That little lady sitting right behind her with that female trouble, sitting right back there behind her, too. You was just healed at the same time, sister. You can stand up, also. Raise up your hand. You had a female trouble. It's been on the ovary---abscess. It's gone from you, now. You can be healed. Go home.

47 Amen. Why do you doubt God?
Sir, would you like to go eat your supper? enjoy it again? Do you believe me to be His prophet? ["Yes."] Well then, in the name of Jesus Christ, go and eat your supper, eat your breakfast, testify of your healing. The ulcer is gone from your stomach. God bless you. Do you believe that? Don't doubt it.
Come, lady. Do you believe? Do you believe me to be His servant? If God would tell me what was wrong with you, quickly, without saying anything farther...? So much of that gets me so weak, that I get swimmy. Do you believe that does that? Our Lord said, "Virtue has gone out from Me." (Virtue is "strength.") When the woman touched His garment. It's pulling from all over this audience.
You got heart trouble. Is that right? Now, you believe you're healed? Then go and testify of it. God'll be with you.
You had the same thing, sir, so you can just keep walking. God did the same thing... Amen.
Female trouble. Just keep going. Be made well in the name of the Lord Jesus.

What about way up in the corner, there? Are you believing? Raise up your hand. Stay right with it. He's went to the corner twice.
Now, come here, lady. Do you want to get over that cancer? You would? Do you accept Jesus as your Healer now? ["I hope to."] Now, "hope to" won't do it, sister. You either look, or die. You look, you live. It's up to you.
Father, I pray for faith for the woman. May she live. In Jesus Christ's name I ask it. Amen.
God be with you.

49 How do you do, lady? Do you believe me to be His servant? Do you believe that He's here, now? Do you believe His Spirit's here to make you well? You're a stranger here in this city, too. You're from Toledo. Is that right? And aren't you a minister? Your husband's a minister, too. That's right. Sitting right there. Never seen you in my life, but you got heart trouble, haven't you? You're healed. God bless you. Go on your road.
See, your mental attitude is quite a difference between you and the lady that just passed here. Go. Go, have faith.
All right. Come, sir. Do you believe Him?
Almighty God, I ask You to heal the man. Deliver him. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, may it be so. Amen.
That's the way, sir. You was healed while you was sitting right there in the seat. God bless you. That's the way. All right, sir.
Do you want to get over that heart trouble and be made well? Do you want to accept it right now, and believe that God's going to make you well?
Lord Jesus, I pray that You'll heal the woman. And may she go home tonight, and get completely well through Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

51 Let's say, "Thanks be to God." Go tell the unbeliever the deaf hear, the blind see, the cripples are raised up. Blessed is he who is not offended in the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Gospel came not in word only, but through power and demonstration of the Holy Spirit." Paul---quoting.
Come, sir. Do you believe with all your heart? Do you believe that you're standing in His presence? Not your brother, His presence ... in His presence? If I be God's prophet, then He will reveal to me what's wrong with you. That's right? You believe that.
You have some kind of spells. Epilepsy. Isn't that right? And another thing, the greatest you need of all, is Jesus Christ as your Saviour. Is that right? Do you accept Him now as your personal Saviour? Stop smoking, and everything else, and going to give your life to Christ? Quit smoking. Throw them out of your pocket, then.

Audience, we could stand here... We don't want... The city is nice to let us have this place. I'm weak, tired. We could stand here hour after hour on this, but what more could God do than what He's doing right now? If you don't believe now, you'll never believe. There's no need.
Now, if I have told the truth, and God's confirmed it to be the truth, then you believe me now. I'm telling you the truth. I want you to lay your hands over on one another, now. Now, I want you to listen closely. I want the whole audience to repeat after me, this prayer. Now, I'm going to say it. Do you believe God tells me the words that'll defeat Satan? Now, you just repeat what I say, now, as you bow your head. [The audience repeats after Brother Branham.]

53 Almighty God, Author of life, Giver of every good gift, send Thy blessings upon Thy servant. Lord, I'm standing in need of Thee. Thou knowest my need. This, what I have seen, I do believe that it's Your Word. And I now accept Jesus Christ as my all-sufficient need. Lord Jesus, have mercy on me. I shall go from here testifying to the glory of God. Help me, Lord.
Now, with your heads bowed, keep that in your heart. Get shut in with God. If you're a sinner, receive Him. If you need the Holy Spirit, be ready. If you're sick, accept your healing. Now, I'm going to pray for you. And if God can hear my prayer, here, to make demons leave from this platform, reveal sickness and sin, then God can also cast every demon in this building out right now.

54 Now, Father, Thou seest the people. They're gathered in one accord, in one place. The Holy Spirit---the Angel of God---is moving like an amber light, around, over this audience. Have mercy, Lord. You've heard their confession. And You said, "If thou will confess with thy lips..." O Lord, I pray for mercy for these people. Many of them are bound and sick. And God is here to make them delivered, to bring down His truth, to show His power, the resurrection of His Son.
And, O God, if I have found favor with Thee, I pray, tonight, that You'll give me favor with these people. And now, as I go forward to challenge the enemy, that doubting spirit that would hang around this place to keep the people from being healed...
Thou demon, I charge thee by Jesus Christ the Son of God, as His prophet, "Come out of the people! I adjure thee to leave them."

1 Thank you, Brother Outlaw. Thank you very much. Good evening, friends. It's ... certainly appreciate that fine introduction, Brother Outlaw, and it's mutually felt between us. And I'm happy to be here in this tabernacle tonight, back here in Phoenix, and listen to these wonderful songs and this lovely little choir. And I was just looking them all over. I'm so critical of some of the ways people do and dress in these last days, I kind of have to admire this little clean-faced bunch of women up here. It's real good to me. I'm certainly thankful for them. God bless them.
And to Brother Outlaw and his son, I remember when I was here the boy was just a little bitty fellow. And now here he is, I think married---perhaps got a family. And it just shows that it don't take long for it to pass, does it? We're just certainly drifting on down the way. But there's one glorious thing that we are looking forward to: the day that we will see our Lord Jesus and then we'll all be changed then.

2 They said Sister Waldrop was here tonight, the lady that was healed with cancer. I called her name the other night. Where is she at? Is she here in the building now? Yes, Sister Waldrop, and Brother Waldrop, too. We're certainly glad to have you in the service tonight. I believe I see Brother and Sister Evans from Macon, Georgia, over here on the left-hand side---all the way from Macon here.

3 And this little Greek brother sitting here in front---I can't think... He's all the way from Greece. So, I met him not long ago, and... Eddie, I believe, isn't it? or am I...? Dave, David. I appreciate that Bible, and so forth, that you sent me just recently, that book. And I thank you very much, brother. And many of our friends... There's another group from Georgia, Brother S.T. I call him, I believe, or T.S., on this side. And I was happy to see Brother Williams' boy. How many times that he's requested me to pray for him; and hear him stand up here testifying like that tonight, it certainly thrilled my heart for that.
Coming in I met Brother McAnally out there, my old friend. I get to see him pretty near every time coming down. There's just so many of our friends here.

4 Hearing the testimonies from healings brings me to think of this. A few moments ago I made a long distance call to Brother Tommy Hicks, who's in Washington, or in Oregon rather. Wanted me to come take his place this week. His brother, and his sister-in-law, and the whole family was killed instantly this afternoon, down in Mexico. And he has to go down to identify his brother, and make all the arrangements and so forth. And I certainly have a feeling for Brother Hicks. I had to do the same thing a few weeks ago for my mother, and I know just how he feels.
And so, I believe at this time, as we're all associated together as one great Christian body of people, I believe it would be real nice if we would just bow our heads a moment, and offer prayer for the comfort of Brother Hicks in this hour.

5 Our heavenly Father, we are bringing before Thee now, as a group of people that are pilgrims and strangers, sojourners, professing that this is not our home... We are citizens of another great kingdom that shall come, that Jesus taught us to pray, "Thy kingdom come, thine will be done." Father, tonight one of our brothers, Brother Tommy Hicks, your servant, sadness is floating across the wires to his ears. His precious brother (believing he was an unsaved boy) and his wife, and little ones, all was just destroyed today by an automobile accident. And our brother is in the air, now, flying to meet up the body of his precious brother.
I pray for Brother Hicks, Lord. I pray that your Spirit be upon him, and help him. Comfort him. And may the great hand of the living God reach down and give him sustaining grace in this hour. Feeling the sharp feeling myself, Lord, of just a few weeks ago--- something similar happening---I feel sorry for him. And I pray that You'll comfort him in every way that You can, Father. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Luke 11:2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

6 There's just so much to be said; so little time to say it. We're terribly sorry, tonight, that people ... standing inside, outside, and around the walls of the church.
Now, this next week, next Thursday starts the convention up here at the Ramada (I believe I pronounced that right), up on the right-hand side of West, or East Van Buren Street. And the Ramada---it's kind of a big hall there, with enough seating room to seat 2500 people. And it has been deemed a great privilege to me to be invited here by the Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship, to which... I have spoken over most of the world for them, and they invited me here to this convention, Brother Williams, and the president here of this chapter and many of the fine men.
And we're expecting a great time up there, and there's going to be some fine speakers, as I understand, to be there. And I understand that it's going to be my great privilege to speak to the Saturday morning breakfast. And if that be so, I want to speak on the subject, "The Worst Man I Ever Found."

7 And then, Sunday afternoon I'm to speak again, to address the body of believers there Sunday afternoon. All through the week I've got church to church, church to church, sometimes two in a day ... and so, to visit my brethren. And I certainly deem it a privilege, friends, to get to meet the different organizations.
And here a long time ago this would almost've been impossible to get the people together of the different phases and organizations. But God is so wonderful. He has just worked it around so that all of them now are beginning to fellowship one with another, and forgetting their little differences, and pressing on towards the mark of the high calling. That's certainly fine. I'm very grateful to God to see that. And now, may it just continue to grow is my prayer.

Philippians 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

8 Brother Outlaw, as he just said, was the first one to invite me to Phoenix. I come here many years ago with Brother Kidson, and we had a great meeting. That meeting was a red letter mark in my life. They didn't have tape recorders then. They had a little sound-scriber and they made records. And I've still got the records. That was from Brother Outlaw's church, and from Brother Garcia's church over there---the little Spanish choir that sang in Spanish, like these do in English.
And every once in a while we get kind of lonesome at home, and I kind of get the blues to see the folks out at Phoenix, and I put that record on and play it, you know. It's pretty near worn out. But I just know it so well that I know every little time it's going to jump and skip a line, and so forth. So I just stay right with it.

9 I've had a very sad experience in my life recently of losing my mother, which was a very sweet Christian woman. But her going was quickly. I haven't time to tell it tonight. I want to at one of the meetings---some of the little breakfasts somewhere---and how that the Lord sent me away for this to happen. He gave me a vision where to go, and what would happen. Then on the road back ... and the sweetness of watching mother come to the end of the road, and holding her in my arms, or by the arm, and committing her soul to God; and seeing that dear, old, saintly woman as she was going out when she could no more speak...
And I said, "Mother, does Jesus still mean the sweetness to you as He did the day you received the Holy Ghost? You cannot speak, I know. But if it's real, just bat your eyes real fast." And she'd bat her eyes, and the tears would just run down her cheeks, and she went to meet the Lord. That night He came to me in a vision, and showed me her the way she was then. I just can't keep from inviting people to press on to that, see. Never miss that, friends.

10 And now, many times the way that we stand... We don't disfellowship anyone because the way they believe, but being Pentecostal, and having the Pentecostal experience... I've seen it come in my family---the ones right down to the end of the road---and watch them until their soul went out. I tell you, I'm so glad that I've got that experience, of being a Pentecostal experience in me. And I just want everyone to have it. Don't miss it. Whatever you do, don't miss the experience.

11 Usually in my meetings, everywhere I go, it's always about praying for the sick. I don't know. It's been very successful. The Lord has blessed, answering my prayers many times. And I wonder, just before I spoke to you, was there any come tonight to be prayed for something? so I could change my text around a little bit. If you was going to be prayed for, I was going speak on something on divine healing. And if not, I was going to speak on something else.
Is there anyone here to be prayed for, would like to be prayed for? Raise up your hand, so I can get just a general... Hmm. My! Well, I wrestled around about a half-hour a while ago. Say, by the way, is Billy Paul here? My son, Billy Paul? Are you here? Got some prayer cards out there? Go get some, while I'm talking a little bit. Give them out. See, if you don't sometimes they keep coming back, and back, and back and forth, in the line like that. You never get to the end of it.
If you're going to have that many... We want every one of them; but not twice, 'cause many of the people here are ... come from a long ways. And I'll speak quietly just for a few moments on something another that will try to help, and to bring faith up to that spot where we can pray for the sick.

12 Got a wonderful pastor, and co-pastor here, wonderful board, wonderful church, wonderful people. And the other day I was speaking at one of the meetings out here in Phoenix, and (the first meeting) and I was saying, as the wife and I was going down the street, why, how that this valley must have looked a few hundred years ago, and what it looks like today.
And today we took a trip and went up on South Mountain, and way up above the city there, out of the atmosphere of the city. We were sitting there together speaking about the Lord, and how good He'd been to us. And just ... the Holy Spirit just so sweetly moved into the car, and just... And I looked down in the valley where little Joseph and I went down not long ago when I was here. And he and I sat down there, and held each other's hands and prayed (my little boy). And I asked God when I left, "Let me be able to lay my Bible in his hands, and let him stay with it---just with the Word; and it will be a contribution to..."---Him sparing my life and helping me.

13 Now you know, if you get away... We know all cities... I think Phoenix is a wonderful city. But, I said to my wife, "Just think. Down in there now, right at this moment, right ... little valley, the Maricopa Valley here, as we can look through it---Salt River, through here---how many people at this minute in that one little valley is taking the name of the Lord in vain? How many sins, adultery, and so forth, has been committed in the last hour in this city, this little group of people?"
I said, "How many people do you think that's sinned in the last fifteen minutes, since we've been sitting up here in this city?" Think of it tonight. I said, "It's a wonder that God just doesn't wash the whole thing out, like that." It certainly is true.

14 But do you remember like it was in Sodom? There was someone down there that had to be brought out. And I said, "Sweetheart, besides all of that, remember that in this valley since we've been sitting up here, there's been prayer after prayer go from a sincere heart." And I said, "That's the reason we're here at Phoenix today, and in this meeting around the fellowship with our brethren: is to put ourself in with them to help to move this great load---to try to get others to see.
"Now, some day I believe that the whole valley will be wiped out, the whole earth will be wiped off. And there will come a great millennium." And I said, "The warriors and heroes of the faith then will walk down through the gardens of God, never to be old again, never to be sick again, while anthems fill the air, the angels looking down."

15 I think of a soldier coming home, when he's been honored, you know, overseas or something---how that there seems to be such a great honor the people pay him. But what is it? It's a few honors out on the street, and a few trumpets to sound, or bells to ring. And then you go right back into the old grind.
But this way it'll be an endless eternity, how that the anthems that the angels was singing as these warriors, and their wives, and families, walk through the paradises of God. Now, that's not some mythical dream like Christmas, Santa Claus. That's the truth, friends. And we are looking forward to that. I'm looking with all my heart to that time, that when Christ shall come and we shall be in his likeness then. There'll be no more old age...
[What say? Come right here, Paul, if you will.] And you that wants a prayer card, as he comes down just to give you a prayer card, just raise your hands.

16 And I wonder if it would be asking a little too much, if we would get this pianist and this choir here to sing? Well, let's have the audience---put everybody in it, if they will---sing "Close to Thee, Close to Thee." You know the song? You know it? Everybody knows it? "Close to Thee?" All right. Some song... Let's just let the choir sing one, then. I think that would be better. Just let the choir sing it. And that'll let you all be interested in giving out ... getting your prayer cards.

17 Brother Outlaw, would you come here again, if you will, if it's not asking too much of you, my brother? And we'll have another chorus, or whatmore, from the people. And then we will go right straight, quick as we can, for a short message, and pray for the sick. The Lord bless you. Pray for the little choir now, as it... All that appreciates ... you Pentecostal people that appreciates the nice little clean-looking bunch of girls and boys, like that, just raise up your hands. We sure do. There's one outstanding thing, many outstanding things, about this church here; and one of them, they sure are singers. [Choir sings two songs.]

18 Thank the Lord for that. Amen. How thankful we are for a nice spiritual lift like that, "... was There When the Spirit Came." Now we are grateful for these services, again I say, and we're praying now that God will heal the sick, save the lost. Now you pray for me. Now when you come in just kind of unexpected, and we don't know no arrangements---just drop in, and drop out, and like that---we can't feel like we... Not doing our very best for the Lord, but we try to do the best we can for Him. So let us bow our heads once more now, for prayer.

19 Our heavenly Father, it's tonight with grateful hearts that we face thy throne, not knowing just what your will is, and what for us to do. But Thou will lead us. You promised to. So we believe it. We pray that You'll speak to the lost tonight, and will heal the sick. Get glory unto thyself.
Bless this church, we ask again, Lord. Bless every church that's in this city, and in this valley; that there will come a time when there will be a great pouring of the Spirit out upon all these people, that people from all over the country will flock in to hear the Word of the Lord.

20 Now, we realize, Lord, the reason that we can rejoice and sing songs is, first, because we came to Christ, believing that He was, for "faith cometh by hearing, hearing of the Word." And as we have enjoyed singing spiritual songs, and seeing the Spirit move in the audience, now may You provide the Word that will condition the hearts of the people for further service, for the healing of the sick, and the spiritual healing of someone who's been hurt, or a little tender conscience been bruised, like the bruised reed. We pray that You'll strengthen it tonight, Lord, and give it of thy healing balm that will give the cure for all---that this one that might have been turned out of the way will be turned back to the way tonight.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

21 We would also pray, Lord, for those that are in the hospital, so sick they can't even get to the services. We pray for them, knowing that they would love to be here, but the enemy has bound them in such a way that they cannot come. God, grant that their deliverance comes quickly. We believe that it is written in the Word that "... the people that's called by my name shall assemble themselves together and pray. Then I'll hear from heaven." That's why we take this opportunity to pray while all the church is assembled together, so that You'll hear from heaven, and heal our land. We ask this now for the glory of God in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

22 Now, feeling for those who are standing, and legs getting tired, I'll hurry just quick as I can. I would like to come back some time to Phoenix where we could get everybody together, and have a good, long, healing service in Phoenix, where...
The Lord blesses some of us ... some of us are preachers, like Brother Outlaw. And many of the other brethren here are preachers. I'm not much of a preacher. I just pray for the sick. And yet, there's no man that ever preached the gospel but what loves to express his feelings to the people. There's just something about it---you love to do it. And I'm so glad that you've come to hear the little expression I have about Him, and trust that He will do something tonight to prove to you that I'm telling you the truth, and love you.

23 I want to take a little text here for a few moments, if the Lord willing, out of St. John, the 12th chapter and the 32nd verse:
And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
And for a little text to build upon that, I'd like to take the text of "An Ensign." That's a very odd, strange thing to read a text like that, or read a scripture, and take an odd text. But I have found out in the years of ministry that sometimes God comes in an odd way, odd times---times when you're not thinking---speaks through texts that we wouldn't think that He would speak through, use somebody that we would think would be insignificant. But God works in mysterious ways his wonders to perform.

John 12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

24 And an ensign... Of course we all know what an ensign is. It's something that's in a commemoration lifted up, something to people to look to, it's something placed before you. And God promised in Isaiah, the 5th chapter and the 26th verse, that there would be an ensign lifted up. There would be an ensign lifted up.

Isaiah 5:26 And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss unto them from the end of the earth: and, behold, they shall come with speed swiftly:

25 Man down through the age is prone ... it's inside of him to try to help himself. Now that's just the nature of man. Now what we're trying to do is set a base here for something that we're asking the Lord to do---heal the sick---and to give confidence. And you can just not walk right out and have faith for anything that you know nothing about. You first got to have something that faith can rest upon.
When you married your wife, you had to have faith in her, she had to have faith in you, before you could make a home. And you just can't take a haphazard something and have faith in it, because it's not proven. So the most proven thing that we could take a base upon for faith would be the Word of God. For "faith cometh by hearing, and hearing of the word of God," because it's God's Word.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

26 And man, now, being that he is made... Even in his fallen condition, yet he's in the image of his maker, God. And in one sense of the word he is a son of God fallen from grace. He's fallen away from what God made him to be. And in ... his fallen estate gives him them attributes to try to do something to bring himself back up to a place where something inside of him tells him that he come from; because he knows he's not in the right condition yet 'cause he sees death, sickness, and sorrows, and heartaches, and disappointments. He knows he wasn't made for that. Yet, no matter how far he is away from God, there's something with ... inside of him that tells him that---some inside something.

27 Now, a man is made up as a triune being---soul, body, spirit. Now, the outside is the body. There's five gates to that body, and that's the five senses, of course: see, taste, feel, smell, and hear. The inside, like the seed that's planted... The inside of that is the pulp-like of the seed, which is the soul. There's five gates to that you enter into: conscience, and memory, and so forth.
But then inside of that little compartment is the third compartment, which is the spirit. And that's what controls the rest of it. There's only one avenue through that, and that's self-will. You can accept or turn away and that's the only avenue to that. If you accept the will of God through that spirit, God's Spirit takes his place in your heart, and controls the rest of you. And if you do not accept that, then the enemy takes that spot and controls the rest of you. So it lays in that.
And man, being made up in that fashion, then it gives him the something inside of him that makes him want to achieve something by himself. He's trying to do something to save himself. He wants to get out of it, but he wants to do it himself. He wants to make his own way about it.

28 Now he's tried many achievements. He's tried to achieve this through science, and every time that he moves through science he only destroys himself. Every time that science makes something, he destroys himself---gunpowder, and atomic energy, and nuclear weapons, and automobiles and all these things. Yet temporarily it helps him. But in the long run it destroys himself, because it's something that he has achieved while he's in God's workshop trying to make something---pervert what God has made---and put in into his own ideas, and make it up.

29 Now. As I said about this city, as this great beautiful city here... If this city was just... It would be prettier than it was at the first place if up and down the streets went the people of God, with their hands in the air praising God for their home, and everything. Wouldn't Phoenix be a garden spot of the earth? But instead of that, like all other cities, it's lying, stealing, cheating, gambling, smoking, drinking, carousing, adultery. And it's become a stink before God, see.
So you see, what a man tries to achieve, he just makes a mess out of it. He cannot save himself. And he tries by education. He's took that route to see if he couldn't educate people into a saving knowledge of Christ, or saving knowledge for himself, or to do something through his education.

30 I was reading the other day in "Life" magazine where they'd (I believe many of you read the article) ... where they'd done everything now towards putting different elements together, or accumulations, until they can almost make life. And they said they would make it. They can't do that. Life is creation. So, only one is a creator, and that is God, see. They'll never be able to make life, but he's trying to do that. Wonder what kind of a species it would be if he could make it, if it'd be after the intelligence of a man. So you see, he can't do that. It's just not for him to do it. He's failed with education, he's failed with science. He knows that he come from somewhere, but he wants to find his way back.

31 Adam really expressed that, the first man on earth. After finding that he had fallen from grace he tried to take his own intelligence, and make a way back to God without an atonement. He tried to go back to God without making an atonement, something to pay for his sins. After the penalty of God was death, he tried to go back without a death atonement.
And men are still trying to do that, trying to make a religion without an atonement in it. Adam made himself a covering out of fig leaves with no blood shed for this covering, and God refused it. And He has refused it then, and He always will refuse it, because without the shedding of blood there's no remission of sin. He just can't get back because the penalty is death, and something has to die to pay that penalty. So it can only be substitutionary, or we're all in death if there wasn't a substitute for us to hold on to. And man, in doing this, realized that---that he needs something to hold on to, something that he can put his hands on, something he can say "This is it. I've got it. I know it's it."

Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Genesis 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

32 So Adam, to hold on to something made a fig leaf to cover his and his wife's nakedness. But he found out that that ... what he had in his hand did not work. On down through the ages we could count men if we only had time... Let's take two or three of them anyhow.
Let's take Nimrod. Nimrod thought the same thing. After the flood he was conscious that there was a God who would judge the wicked, for they had just come out of that flood. And he knew that it was sin that caused God to destroy the world. Therefore, knowing that sin again would make God do the same thing, he tried to achieve something to make a tower, that men could run up in heaven if it got bad here on earth, and live in heaven; then come back down on earth, and sin, and go back up into heaven again.

33 Now that's been the idea of men all along the road, trying to sin and live in earth, and be in heaven at the same time. You cannot do it. You can't do it. Jesus said you can't serve God and mammon. That's the reason we believe tonight in a total abstaining from sin, getting away from it. It's poison. Do not fool around it. Don't tolerate in it at all. Have nothing at all to do with it. Don't see how close you can come to it without sinning; see how far you can stay away from it. Anything that looks sinful, stay away from it. Don't have anything to do with it at all.

Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Luke 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

34 So Nimrod, with his great master mind, he tried to achieve this. And if you'll notice, it's always been since man was created that... If you'll run the genealogy of Cain's children, they all become scientists---mighty men, workers in the earth with metal, and wood, and so forth. They were the smart intellectual side. But Seth's children were peasants, sheepherders, humble.
Now that's the same way it is today. Those who are depending upon some man-made mechanical something that they can put their hands on, say, "This is it, this is it," something that man has achieved himself, then, you'll find out mostly that's those kind who are trying to escape the blood atonement back to the right way.
Now. But Nimrod after a while... In the building of his tower, God sat in the heavens and laughed at him. And he come almost completing. I want you to notice that he almost achieved what he started to do. But then, all of a sudden God just turned the thing the other way, and the thing went to pieces. It went into the dust. Just like Adam's fig-leaf apron went to dust, so did Nimrod's tower go to dust.

35 Then there come another, which was King Nebuchadnezzar, and he was going to build a city. And if you'll notice, sometimes those spirits that get onto men... And it's a day coming, and is at hand now, where the Christian church---the church of the Lord Jesus Christ---ought to be so spiritual, because that Jesus said that the two spirits would be so close till it would deceive the very elected if it was possible. The enemy is so cunning.
Now watch him with Nebuchadnezzar. He built a city just exactly a pattern of heaven: as the river Euphrates flowed by the throne, like in heaven the river of water of life goes by the throne, swinging gardens and everything, just exactly like it was, for ... before when Abraham was journeying, looking for such a city. And if you're not spiritual-minded, Satan will blind you on these things, see---something that looks almost like it, but it isn't it. If it's man-made it's no good; if it's blood-boughten by God, it's the truth, see. It's true. But if it's man-made...

Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

Hebrews 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

36 Now, he made this great city. And then, we find out that also he made an image for people to worship, and brought an image worship amongst the people. But in the midst of all of it, there come a supernatural handwriting on the wall---an unknown tongue---that no one could interpret but a spirit-filled prophet that was among them.
And that kingdom went to the dust, just exactly like Nimrod's tower, and Adam's fig apron. Just the same, because it's something that man achieved himself. It's something that he wanted to do to show that he could save himself.
You cannot save yourself. There's not a thing you can do about it. The way is already made for you. You cannot save yourself.

Daniel 3:5 That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up:

Daniel 3:8 Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews.

37 We could call many other great things that taken place. Just recently, France, after the first World War they wanted to build the Siegfried line up there. And they turned all their guns towards Germany, and said, "Now, if the Germans ever would try to come this way again, why, we'll be able to hold them off because we've got a line here that we can hold them off with it."
Just to show that man-made schemes cannot stand, the Germans out-smarted them.
They got behind this Siegfried line, and said, "We can eat, drink, live in adultery, dance, live in sin, do anything we want to, because we are protected. We have done something that will protect us."
The Germans marched right around behind it, and took them. See, went right around behind, because they forgot to make their guns, turret, to turn any way. So, the Germans just got out of the reach of their guns, and went right around in behind, and the Siegfried line fell.
The Germans come around and made the Maginot line. And they thought, "If the Yankees ever come over here, why, we'll just get down in this fortified concrete, and we'll be all right." What happened? The Yankees come over with blockbusters and busted them to pieces. She fell anyhow.

38 United States, here not long ago, thought they could build a ship that no other ship builders could build. It was called the Titanic. One night when she was steaming across the ocean, with all of her engines a-running, and the bands was playing jazz music, whoopin' it up, all of a sudden it turned to "Nearer My God to Thee." Why? She struck an ice gorge out there, and knocked a hole in her, and busted up the engines, and she went to the bottom of the sea. Why? God with his mighty hand shows this world it cannot stand. Man cannot achieve nothing by himself.

39 Now, today, the great fuss is on about the nuclear weapons, and we're spending billions of dollars to try to get a man over on the moon. What good's it going to do after he gets on the moon? As I said the other night, I'm not worried about getting on the moon; I'm wanting to get in heaven. So the moon's not far enough for me.
And then the Russians saying, "Oh, we put the first man in space." I sure differ with them there. That man went in space about two years ago; and we've had one in space for two thousand years, building us a home to come to. But you see, man-made achievements, what man has achieved to do within himself, it will not work.

40 Now, we've tried to educate people to get what we would call the better class of people through education. Our seminaries have sent our ministers to school, which is fine; and learned an education by proper speaking, speech, and so forth, and better grammar that ... where that the better class of people of the city, so-called, would come in to these churches. And we've filled our church full of that.
Now, I don't believe there is a better class of people than the people of God, see. And Jesus never worked upon such a class when he was here. He went to the fishermen, the illiterate, unlearned, ignorant. And that was what He chose. God, if you can only understand Him, He likes to take something that's nothing and do something with it. That proves He's God. There's nothing you can brag on. He takes something that's nothing, to make something out of it. That proves that He is God.

41 Now we tried to do it then with denominations. We thought maybe if we could get our denominations to grow... And what did we do? In making our denominations (which is all right, nothing against them)... But the thing that we done with our denominations, we just started pulling for that denomination, and the first thing you know we didn't give the other brother enough blanket to keep warm by, see. And we separated ourselves then, you see. And in doing that, then we caused something to happen among us, that should not have happened. And we find out that that just don't work.
Our intellectual talks (which is fine---only wish I could do it), but that ain't what counts in the sight of God; it's the Holy Spirit. God never did ordain such. He ordained and commissioned his church to go preach the gospel. The gospel is not intellectual. The gospel came not in word only, but through power and demonstration---manifestations of the Holy Spirit. That's what brought the gospel.

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

1 Corinthians 2:4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

42 Here not long ago in Chicago, a full gospel group called for a meeting. They went to a certain big Bible school, and they got a great intellectual speaker. It was advertised all over the city, about this great speaker from a certain great school, with such a name. My! And all the degrees on the end of the name, until they thought that would just be it. And when crowds gathered in to hear the man, when he raised up in the back of the building, with a suit on, the collar turned around, and his speech under his arm, walked up and spread it across the place...
And the speech, my, it was superb. There was no one could say a word against that speech. It was perfect. The grammar was exact. His actions, and his pulpit manners were perfect. He never stammered, stuttered, or slobbered like a lot of us do. But he brought his speech out with such eloquence...

43 But he thought, "With this bunch of an illiterate people, I'll get up there and show them what it really means to be a preacher." With his chest out he walked up, all puffed up, and gave this speech. But he found out that didn't sit with that kind of a crowd. It went over the top of their heads. So much great big, swelled-out words, they didn't get it.
So after a while, when he seen he was wrong, he gathered up his speech and put it on his arm. His shoulders dropped, his head dropped, his knees hanging, he drooped back down---humble, humiliated---off of the pulpit.
There was an old saint sitting back there, looking around. Touched another one, said, "If he would've went up the way he come down, he'd have come down the way he went up."
So, that's just about right. Until man knows that he knows nothing, and he'll humble himself before God, and expect the Holy Ghost to do the work... That's the thing. Man cannot achieve nothing by his intellectuals. He must depend solely upon God.

44 Now, man doing this shows that there is an achievement somewhere for this great cause of being redeemed. And God made that achievement. He did that, and He made it so simple: it was by faith. God told ... beginning it has always been by faith. Today you're not saved by works, by good things, by joining church, by being educated. You're only saved by faith, and that by the grace of God. You're saved by faith by believing what God has already done.

Ephesians 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

45 God appropriated the ensign. God give you something to hold onto---an ensign, like a flag hanging. And in Korea ... and, oh, down in the islands, during the time of the war, when the Americans had drove back the Japanese... And they run up, in Guam and different places, to the top of the hill, the highest hill that they could find; and there, with tears running down their cheeks and with shouts, they planted the American flag---Old Glory---above the hillside. They had conquered the land! What an achievement to lift up that ensign, that this belongs to us! Oh, what a privilege it was for those soldiers to stand there on the land that they had conquered!
I tell you, God gave the church an ensign one day, when Jesus was lifted up on Calvary, between heavens and earth---none other than God Immanuel, bleeding out his blood upon the ground. There was an ensign lifted up to the people. We have conquered. We have ... we're more than conquerors because He conquered for us.

46 Now we find that Noah, a man of God, had faith, and God give him an ensign. And that ensign was the ark. And Noah built away by faith, because it was a commandment of God to build this ark for the saving of whosoever would enter into it.
Now, as Noah went along building on the ark he knew that he was completing an ensign that God had told him to build. Anything that God says to do, hold on to it because it's right. No matter how many scoffers laughed and made fun of, Noah knew he had "thus saith the Lord."
Compare Noah with Nimrod. Nimrod had his own idea about it; and Noah had God's idea about it. Nimrod had something he could put his hands on; and Noah had something he could put his hands on. It was an ensign---something he could hold to. Certainly.

47 Then we find out after that... We'll speak of another man quickly, and his name was Moses. And he was just one man. But how would he ever be able to deliver the children of Israel out of Egypt, out of bondage---after he had studied for school, had been trained in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and found himself totally defeated?
But one day back in the wilderness, God met him; or he met God. And God give him an ensign: a stick to hold in his hand. What a simple thing! But it done the work! "Take this rod before you." It was an ensign, that Moses, when he had that stick, he marched forward with it.

Exodus 4:2 And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.

Exodus 4:17 And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.

48 I was studying not long ago of David Livingston, when I stood at his grave in London. And more people visits Livingston's grave than any other grave in the Abbey. Then, hearing the story of Livingston---how that he went down there as a doctor and a Christian, how he went to the natives and he couldn't get in because they were mostly savage...
So he got to the chief, and he said ... the chief said, "If you will drink the blood of the covenant with me, then you will be one of us." So they got some wine in a cup, and they plucked each others' veins, and held it over the cup and dropped the blood in there, and mixed it up, the two bloods together; and then Livingston drinking half of it, and the chief drinking half of it. And then they gave one another an ensign that they were brothers.
And the chief asked for Livingston's doctor coat, and he took his coat off and give it to the chief. And Livingston asked the chief, then, for his sacred spear. And then when he went back into the jungle, and the natives run after him---would throw a spear through him---how well he could feel when he lifted up this ensign, the sacred spear! And when he lifted it up, like that, natives would fall on the ground and almost worship him as God, because they knowed that that's where that sacred spear came from.

49 Now that's the ... today, the people of today fail to realize the great ensign that God has given us. You say, "Brother Branham, do you have power? I wish I had power." We don't have power. We don't have power; we got authority. It's not a power; it's authority. We don't need power. Christ has the power; but we've got the authority. Amen! There's a lot of difference. He was the one who conquered. He conquered and gave us the authority. He's got the power, but we got the authority---just like any ambassador going to another country.

50 Here, to explain it to you: There's... Down ... you go down here to one of these crossings here in Phoenix along about five o'clock in the afternoon. There's a policeman standing out there. Here's the cars passing by---forty, fifty miles an hour. Well, that little bitty policeman maybe not be five foot high, walk out there, and, why, he hasn't got power enough to stop one of them cars. Why, one of them cars may be three hundred horsepower. Why, they'd just pick that little fellow up and crush him, and go on. But let him raise his hand once, blow the whistle! He hasn't got power, but he's got authority. That's it. Brakes will slide, and wheels will squeak. Everything will stop because he raised up his hand, because he has an authority.

51 And when a man or a woman is dressed in the full armor of God, it ain't power; it's authority from on high when He says... Devils will scream, and brakes will squeak. Even death itself will shudder, and graves will open, at the authority that Jesus Christ gave his church. All men knows this, "These signs shall follow them that believe." Lift up the authority, the ensign. His hand raised up with his white glove on, and every car will stop. He hasn't got enough power, maybe, to stop a bicycle; but he's got authority to stop anything that comes across that street. Because why? The whole law of Phoenix is behind him.

Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

52 And a Christian that's dead and buried and raised with Him in his resurrection, in heavenly places... See, if we are dead with Him, then we're also raised with Him; for the body goes where the head is. And He is the head, and this is the body. And not will be, but now we are seated together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, with every power of the devil conquered and under his feet. Authority! Authority---there's the ensign. That's the hand that lifts us up that counts.

Romans 6:8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

Ephesians 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

Colossians 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

53 Moses went down into Egypt. There was the great seas out there. Lifted up the ensign, and what happened? They turned to blood. Lifted over the lands---frogs, lice, fleas, the sun refused to shine, death struck the land. Why? He lifted up the ensign of God's judgment.
And when we lift up the ensign of God's judgment as a believer in Christ, with a crucified life to yourself and your own ideas, and raised in his Word made alive among you, every devil's got to squeak at it (that's right), ' cause it represents Christ, see. He died. He's the one lifted up the ensign.
And Moses, with his stick---it looked like a little bitty thing, but it was a stick. And it was God's ensign to Egypt, his judgment rod. And it brought judgment. God always gives something that you can look at, something you can put your hand on, something you can prove, something that's right, after you have accepted Him.

Exodus 7:20 And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.

Exodus 8:6 And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt.

Exodus 8:17 And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.

Exodus 8:24 And the LORD did so; and there came a grievous swarm of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants' houses, and into all the land of Egypt: the land was corrupted by reason of the swarm of flies.

Exodus 10:22 And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days:

Exodus 12:29 And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.

54 The wise men, Magi... We read ... Peter said that he perceived that God would take any nation of people, anybody that believed Him. The wise men, they were looking for a star to rise of Jacob, a star to come out of Jacob. And they were given an ensign. When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men came from India following a star. Oh, my! Why? An ensign, an evidence, a proof, a supernatural proof.

55 Unbeliever, I'd like for you to see this. Not altogether does everybody have to see it. Nobody saw that star but them three men. He passed over every observatory, a real living evidence---an ensign to lead them to Christ. Nobody seen it but them.
"A little while and the world sees me no more. Yet ye shall see me, for I'll be with you always, even to the end of the world." The ensign, Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever---God's true ensign. The unbeliever may not see it. Jesus also said, "He that believeth in me the works that I do shall he do also." What would it be?
It would be a sign, an ensign. It was once asked Him, "Let my son sit on ... one on the right hand, and one on the left."
He said, "Can you drink the cup that I drink? Can you be baptized with the baptism I'm baptized with?" The same Holy Spirit was upon Him without measure comes upon his church by measure; but it's the same Holy Spirit, the same God. It's the ensign.

Matthew 20:21 And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.

Matthew 20:22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.

Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Mark 10:37 They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.

Mark 10:38 But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

56 We are God's ensigns to the world. That's the reason I'm always scolding the Pentecostal church, getting after them, their ways of living. That's the reason the world can't see Christ, is because we let down the bars. We get away from that.
When our women dress and act like the rest of the world; when our men go out---and dirty jokes, and smoke, and carry on like the rest of them, marry four or five times, and everything else; pulls get them into church, and things like that... Why, no. The world don't believe you've got it.
Let me tell you, brother, when you are dead and your life is hid in Christ through God, and sealed by the Holy Ghost, and God lifts you up in heavenly places, you'll be an ensign that a work of God has been committed in you.

Ephesians 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Colossians 3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

57 Jesus said in Mark 16, "These signs shall follow them that believe." What kind of an ensign is it? Some great stuffed shirt? No! Humility. The fullness of God in Christ Jesus made Him walk like a humble peasant, made Him wash the feet of his disciples, had not a place to lay his head.
Some of us calling ourselves Christians, we go to a place, we got to have the best there is in the country; got to be guaranteed so much money or we won't go (the evangelist). Some pastors won't go to a church unless it's a high class and big place. Oh, my!
We need another experience like Paul saw, when he was on the road to Damascus. Paul saw that ensign lifted up, and he said, "Who are you, Lord?"
And He said, "I'm Jesus."
What we need tonight is another pillar of fire hanging over the church again tonight, that peoples' blinded eyes would be opened and could see it. Jesus still lives and reigns, the ensign.

Matthew 8:20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

Luke 9:58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

John 13:5 After that he poureth water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.

Acts 9:5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

58 Now He is... God gave us this ensign. It's an eternal ensign. Remember that all of Roman's ensigns, all of the ... Nimrod's ensigns, all of Babylon's, and all the rest of them are crushed and gone. We only know them by history. I stood in Rome to where the Caesars once ruled the world, and you'd have to dig down twenty foot in the dirt to find where their palace was. Stood in Egypt where the Pharaoh's were, and it's gone and turned to dust.

59 Brother, but there is an ensign that God achieved one day by lifting up Jesus Christ from the dead, and sending the Holy Ghost upon his church. And heavens and earth will pass away, but his Word shall never pass away. "Upon this rock I'll build my church, and the gates of hell can't prevail against it." Why? The living ensign is in the church---the ensign, the infallible, the perfect proof, something you can put your hands on, something that you can look at.

Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Mark 13:31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

Luke 21:33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

60 See here, this young man---young Williams here---stood up and testified how his father and mother had prayed for him, and all at once he saw the ensign. Something happened. He seen ... he bid farewell to the old house of clay, and then he went to running around the Milky White Way, as the brother said. When men can see that...
"If I be lifted up from this earth I'll draw all men unto me. Ye are my witnesses. You shall be witnesses to me both in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the earth. These signs shall follow them that believe. In my name they shall cast out devils, speak with new tongues, take up serpents, drink deadly things. It shall not harm them. Lay their hands on the sick, and they shall recover."---the ensign.
Let me get another one on top of that to seal it with. "...this will all men know you're my disciples, when you have love one for another," see. You can't take part of it; you got to take all of it. And it cannot be sealed until that all of it has come. That's right.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

61 In the old country, old times, the seal was usually a ring. A man that couldn't sign his name, he just had a ring. And he sealed it, his ... ever what he wrote, instead of signing his name, he put the seal on it. It was a penitentiary offense to ever copy that seal.
Now, today, God has a seal. It's a penalty of death to copy that seal. Listen, you Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian and Pentecostals, don't try to copy it. Hold still, and God'll put it on you. And then, you'll be an ensign example of Christianity, and manhood and womanhood---the seal of the Holy Spirit, God's ensign, pressed into you till you're ... look, act, walk, talk the gospel everywhere you go. No finger can be put on you. That's right.
God has achieved that by the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, through the washing of the water by the Word. Through his blood today we are washed and made clean, given this great privilege of... See, we would wonder what Jesus was, if we say He was the same yesterday, today, and forever. Now, what He was yesterday, He is today, and will be forever---that same ensign.

Ephesians 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

62 We find what the ensign was then to them people, to know whether He was the right ensign that was looking to become. We see in the Scriptures where in there He never claimed to do anything. He never claimed... He said, "It's not me that doeth the works. It's my Father that dwelleth in me. He doeth the works. Verily, verily I say unto you, the Son can do nothing, but what he sees the Father doing: that doeth the Son likewise." It's what He saw the Father doing. In other words, He saw it by vision what happened.

John 5:19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

John 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

63 We find a woman touched his garment. He turned, and looked at her, and told her... She had the blood issue, and it stopped. Her faith had saved her.
The woman at the well... Said, "Go get your husband."
She said, "I have none." Said, "Well, we..."
He said, "Right, because you've had five."
When He said that, she said, "Sir, we know that Messiah is coming who is called the Christ. When he comes he'll tell us these things," see.
There was the ensign. He said, "I am he that speaks to you." Oh, brother! The water pot was left. She'd found a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel's veins. She'd found a fountain of salvation. She'd found a fountain. She run into the city, see. She was gladly pointing men. She said, "Come see who we have found, see a man that told me all the things that I've done."

John 4:16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

John 4:17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

John 4:18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

John 4:25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

John 4:26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

John 4:29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

64 Look at Andrew that I preached on last night over there, how as soon as he stayed all night with Jesus, and found out that that really was God's witness, that was the Messiah, he didn't go say: "Simon, come help me figure it out." He knew that He was Messiah. And as soon as he come up before Him, and He told him who he was, and what his father's name was... And Peter knew that was what was going to happen. Philip did the same thing, and, oh, on and on, and on. The ensign.
Jesus said in St. John 14:12, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also."

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

65 Now look. We are sent. Listen here, friends, all of you. I'm talking to you people now that's ... right now to the people that's going to be prayed for. Listen to this. You are a witness. If you've been saved, and you know what the power of God is, you've touched that ensign. You've got a hold of something, something that's not a Nimrod's tower. Neither is it a Adam's fig leaf, apron. But it is a promise of God that "Heavens and earth will pass away, but my Word shall not pass away." It's something you can lay your hands on. "These signs shall follow them that believe. If they lay their hands on the sick, they shall recover." It's an ensign, a real ensign.

66 And to you people, if there be one here that has never accepted this ensign, that don't know what makes these people cry, and shout, and dance; and how it makes these women let their hair grow out, and quit wearing them old dirty clothes, and looking sexy out before men, and things like that, that old evil spirit gone out of them...
Don't tell me ... you might be as pure as a lily to your husband; but when you come to the judgment bar, you're going to answer for committing adultery. That's right. The Bible said, Jesus said, "Whosoever looketh upon a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart." And if you dress yourself to present yourself before men, you're guilty, if a man never touches you. When that sinner answers for his adultery, you're the one that committed it. You've presented yourself. Yes, sir.

Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

67 Brother, sister, you might think this is old-fashioned. I had a minister not long ago, said, "You're going to hurt your ministry, Brother Branham."
I said, "It isn't mine; it's his. That's his Word, and that's what He says. And I believe it. Yes, sir! Yes, sir."
So when you see one of them women get straight with God, you'll see her come out like a saint. You'll see her act different. There'll be a difference in her life. Holiness will speak everywhere. She'll be a lady.
Watch that man, that drunkard out there on the street, staggering---the bar fly---and his mouth blowed with fly-blows from vomiting from whiskey and beer, and stuff like that. Let him get down at the altar and catch a hold of that ensign one day, and I'm telling you he'll be an ensign to God, and a memorial to the saving power of Jesus Christ! Yes, sir. He certainly will.

68 I stood down the other day here on the streets of Phoenix, and seen a little colored boy standing out there. Little guy, was nobody paying any attention to him. Had his Bible under his arm, and ever who was coming by he was pointing the gospel to them, just as hard as he could. And I said, "Thank the Lord God! Oh, my! Scream it out, brother. Just keep it going. That's all right---lifting up Jesus Christ."

69 Oh, if you don't know Him tonight, friends, receive Him. Won't you do it? while we bow our heads just a moment for prayer. Sorry the time is getting so quickly away.
I want to ask just a moment, is there a sinner here tonight that doesn't know Christ, and have never accepted this ensign? If you've tried to achieve... Say, "Now, Brother Branham, now just a moment. I keep the golden rule."
Brother, if that would've stood, Jesus would've not had to die.
Say, "Brother Branham, I've become a member of a very prominent church."
That's all right, my brother, I appreciate that. And I appreciate you keeping the golden rule. I appreciate you keeping the ten commandments. But if the golden rule, a church joining, or any of those things would've saved you, Jesus died in vain. Jesus said Himself in St. John, 3rd chapter, "Except a man be borned again, he will in no wise enter in."

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

70 Life is like a leaf hanging on a tree. After awhile, the life leaves the leaf, and goes back to its roots. The leaf drops off. That life is buried in the roots till the winter's passed. In springtime it brings back another life, another leaf.
That's the way of a Christian that's on the tree of life. This old hull here might drop off. That is true. But the life goes back to the God who gave it, see. If God give you your life, you're born again. There's only one life that can ever live, and that's God's life in you. And if that life is in you, then it'll only go to where it come from, back to God, to come back in that great millennium with a new leaf, or new life, or new body that will never fade and fall away.

71 Our seasons denote that God is with us, that God is here. He commanded nature. And now, if you have never received that life, and if that little leaf would drop off tonight---this little leaf that you are here on earth---you know it would never raise again. If you're not born again and haven't received the ensign in your heart, the evidence, the Holy Spirit...
Not just imaginary. You can't imagine it. I spoke somewhere the other night, and said, "What if the disciples had waited nine days, and said, "We'll accept it by faith that we've got the Holy Ghost," and go on? They wouldn't have had it, see. They stayed there until they knew it was there. Something had happened, something that they could put their hands on, and say, "This is it"; just like Noah could say, "This is it"; just like Moses could say with his stick in his hand, "This is it."
"How're you going to conquer, Moses?"
"With this stick I'll conquer. That's how I'll do it."
By Jesus Christ, by the Holy Ghost, I have conquered, 'cause He conquered for me. And now my life is dead, and hid in Him, and sealed by the Holy Ghost. It's there. If you haven't that experience tonight, sinner friend, would you come while we bow our heads just a moment?

Colossians 3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

72 Our heavenly Father, now I commit the audience to You. There might be a wayward person here that may never have the opportunity again. We just hear it on the telephone, a few moments ago, or awhile ago, Brother Tommy Hicks---a precious servant of yours---his brother that he'd cried to, begged to, just a few weeks ago even sent him a letter and said, "Brother, receive Christ."...
But he was making so much money---to buy him a $100,000 home, a new Cadillac---he didn't have time to do it. "Think I'll do that later on, Tommy." But it's too late now. It caught up with him down in Mexico. O God, be merciful. Let people know that there's no more coming back to try again; this is the only opportunity. And death does not change the soul; it only changes its dwelling place.
Now Father, I pray that if there's a soul here that knows that they are made up of this triune being of both soul, body, and spirit---that inside of the pulp that they live in is a spirit, inside the soul that controls them is a spirit, inside the five senses is a spirit---and if that spirit isn't the Spirit of God when this other drops away, it can never rise again. But God, I pray Thee that they will receive You now, and catch this beautiful ensign of the Holy Spirit in their heart and be saved tonight.

73 While we have our heads bowed, if there's anybody'd like to be remembered, raise your hand now, and say, "Pray for me, Brother preacher. I..." God bless you, God bless you, God bless you, God bless you, you, sister. That's very fine. Someone else?
Now don't be ashamed. Just keep praying, all Christians. These people raising their hands... God bless you, little lady. God bless you, Sister. Someone else? Say, "Remember me, Brother Branham. I ... now I believe. I just believe it somehow. I just believe it." Someone else? God bless you. God bless you over here. Bless you, back there. That's good.
Now, that's people that's raised their hands. They believe it. The altar's standing full of children. They're all over everywhere. You don't necessarily have to have the altar. Your heart is the altar. Your heart is where God comes.

74 I was reading the other day in history, Broadbent's, "Pilgrim Church, Nicene Fathers," that where in the early church they never even had any ornaments, never even had an altar, because... The pagans being converted, they used to fall prostrate at the altar. They just had a plain little old building where they sat on slab of rocks. They raised up their hands after some godly man gave a message. And they raised up their hands and praised God. They loved that after-effects of the Holy Spirit bathing through them. That was the early church, in the times of Irenaeus and Martin, and so forth, right after the death of the Lord Jesus, when the church going on ... before it went into Catholicism. Oh, that's what we love.

75 Now you in here make that altar your heart, now, and say, "Come in, Lord Jesus." I'm going to pray for you.
Lord Jesus, I trust that... hurrying up real quick, throwing these words together, getting ready now... And we're waiting to see what You're going to do in the prayer line---not knowing exactly what You will do. But yet, there's been at least a dozen hands went up, of young and old, that's longing to know You, Father, longing to have that eternal life. Let it be a reality to them just now. Grant it, Lord. May the precious Spirit of God bathe down into their souls just now, and make them new creations in Christ.

76 And now, Father, I pray that in the prayer line that You'll show yourself so visible before this audience tonight by healing the sick, that they'll walk away from here saying like those who came from Emmaus, "Did not our hearts burn within us?" because they seen something done.
Those people at Emmaus, those brethren, they had walked all day, Cleopas and them, talking to Him. But yet, they didn't know who He was. But when He did something just the way He did it before his crucifixion and burial, they knew that He had raised from the dead. Will You do it again, tonight, Father? Grant it, we pray.
Now we pray that You'll take these precious souls, give them eternal life. May, if they've never been baptized, may they find their way to the rectory, or somewhere, and be baptized, calling upon the name of the Lord. And may You fill them with the Holy Ghost. And may we meet them in glory in a better land where this night's meeting will be brought into judgment. We commit it to You now, in Jesus' name. Amen.

You know, when you get over in heaven, and get in your big mansion and look down there, and you'll see my little place down there. One of these mornings you'll hear me come out singing it. Then you'll know I got home. Amen. I just love that.

Now humbly, let's bow our heads, and hum it. Father, we confess our sins while the Word is still sowed over the people's hearts, that ensign. Many of them have learned it long ago. Move among us now, Father. You've saved the lost; now heal the sick, that it might be known that your Word shall not return to You void. It will accomplish that what it has promised.

Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Now, I just can't get away from that. I love that. I remember my son, Billy, when his mama died. A few hours, his little sister died. I put them both together up on the hill, and buried them. Went up there, and sat down. There was an old turtledove used to sit out there and coo. I honestly thought it might ... could've been the immortal souls of them coming back, talking to me. I was so brokenhearted. And it seemed like coming down through those pines, there was a whispering, like:
There's a land beyond the river,
That they call the sweet forever,
And we only reach that shore by
faith's decree;
(Isn't that right, friends? Hmm, my.)
One by one we'll gain the portals,
There to dwell with the immortals,
(Won't it be grand when they do this?)
When they ring those golden bells for
you and me.

82 Now, friends, on divine healing, there is no man that can heal you, no more than any man can save you; because both healing and salvation are past tense. When Jesus Christ died at Calvary, He was wounded for our transgressions, with his stripes we were healed. It is a finished work. Now the only thing that you have to do, to receive either your salvation or your healing, is to accept what Christ did for you.
As I said the other night, let's look at God just a moment, way back there in eternity, when his ... when a hundred billion suns would look black to Him, when angels looked dirty in his sight. That's Jehovah. And then, He become a little baby over a manure pile in a manger. That's still Jehovah. And here He is tonight. Through his grace and through his blood He cleanses his church, and puts us in position to receive all these blessings that He paid for for us.

Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

83 Now here stands a line of people. I never seen any of them in life, as I know of. Now, many of you has been in my meetings, and know what discernment is. All of you know that, don't you? We know that. I've had it over, and over, and over, and over. That is a gift.
That doesn't make the Holy Spirit in me any greater than anybody else. That's just a gift to work with the Holy Spirit, see. No matter if it's a little housewife, or the little boy, or the drunkard out there that's just got saved, and filled with the Holy Ghost, he's got the same Holy Spirit that any of us has got. Yes. But God gives gifts with this Holy Spirit to work. It's a confirmation to lift up an ensign. Who? The preacher? No. To lift up Christ.

84 Now, I don't know what ever happened. When I was a little boy... You know my story. I've just prayed for people. There's not a thing I do but just pray, lay hands on them, they'd get well, see. So, what could I do? Not only me praying, but look at the others who are praying. Everybody's praying, see. And just, I believe it. That's all I know to do. I believe it.
Now I'm uneducated, have not any education. And I think the Lord just give me a little gift to work by. And now, when ... Jesus said when He was here on earth, of the things that He did we would do also. And if that is so, and He was God's ensign by doing that, by being able to tell Phillip where he was at, tell a woman about her blood issue and whatmore, and where the coin was in the fish's mouth, or something like that, something that the woman that ... she was living in adultery, or anything like that---that sure was a confirmation He was the Messiah.

85 Now look at that staunch Jew, Philip. When Philip ... or Nathanael, came. Nathanael was a scholar, a real orthodox. And when he seen Jesus, he couldn't hardly believe Him. And He said, "Behold an Israelite in whom is no guile."
He said, "When did you know me, Master?"
He said, "Before Philip called you."
He said, "Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, the King of Israel."
The woman at the well said, "I have no husband."
He said, "Yes, you have five."
She said, "We know when Messiah cometh he'll tell us those things. But who are you?"
He said, "I am he." We know that's going to be the ensign. And if Jesus Christ is the same ensign yesterday, today, and forever, He'll do the same thing if He can get hold of the human heart. Is that right?

86 Now this lady standing here, I don't know her. Never seen her. We're strangers to one another. Aren't we? That's right. If God will tell me what your trouble is, will you believe me? Do you believe with all your heart? Just have faith, don't doubt. Believe. Now you see how simple it is? Now, if we just pray. Now see, He knows what ... every one of you, what's wrong with you. You believe that, don't you? You know that's right.
Now, if I just take this lady here, and say I won't say a thing about it, but just pray, and lay hands on you, do you believe you'll get healed? Do you believe you'll be healed? All right. 87 If I wouldn't say one thing, just pray for you, you still would believe it, wouldn't you? You'd believe it anyhow. But if I tell you, would it help you? Your heart trouble? That's right.
Would it help you if I told you what was wrong with you? You don't know whether it would help you or not. Well, perhaps I'll just pray for you. Heavenly Father, I pray that You'll help the woman. Give her faith and strength in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. Believe now with all your heart.

89 How many ever read the life of St. Martin? He was a pagan, and he was a soldier. His father wanted him to be a soldier. And he didn't want to be. Just something called him about God. And one night passing down, a real cold winter night, there was an old, poor old bum laying in the street freezing to death. And people passed by who could've helped him. They didn't do it. Martin had give everything he had away.
So he said, "There's only one thing to do. I got one coat." So he just took his sword, cut the coat half in two, wrapped the bum up in it, like that, and he went on with the other half. He ... people laughed at him, and said, "How ignorant. Isn't he a handsome looking soldier now, with half a coat on?
He never paid any attention, went on, because he knowed what he was to do. That night in the barracks he woke up, and when he did he seen Jesus standing there wrapped in that piece of coat that he had wrapped the bum in.
And He looked around to the angels, and He said, "Do you know who wrapped me in this?"
They said, "No."
He said, "Martin did."
There you are. And he become a saint, speaking in tongues, and casting out devils, seeing visions---a mighty prophet of God. Yes, sir!
Why? When he wrapped that old beggar up in the street, he wrapped up Jesus Christ. "Insomuch as you have done it unto the least of these my little ones, you have done it unto me."

90 And to be sure that you wrap in the righteousness of Christ, I'm trying to tell you tonight... If I had power to heal you, I would heal every one of you, see. But I'm trying to show you by a gift that what I've preached that God is vindicating it to be so, see; that I cannot heal people, but to let you know that He's here.
You believe that, lady? Then your arthritis will leave you. Do you believe it will? Then go on your road, and shout, and say, "Praise the Lord. I believe with all my heart."
That was a funny thing, that I said arthritis to her, and you had the same thing. Just go on, and say, "I believe with all my heart," and it shall be done.

94 Now in the audience, everyone... I know you never got enough prayer cards out there. I want you to bow your heads just a moment. I want to ask you a question. Two thousand years ago there was a man... Four thousand ... as a matter of fact, 2500 years ago there was a ... God came down represented in a man, and sat at the oak tree of Abraham, turned his back to the wall, or to the tent, told Sarah what was the trouble on the inside. Jesus said as it was in that day, so will it be in the coming of the Son of man. Jesus was God's ensign. "The works that I do shall you also." We see it. It's true, without a doubt.

95 Now the reason I didn't go no farther, I got so many meetings. I'll be back to Phoenix some day, with a great meeting, the Lord willing. Now, to you here tonight that's sick and needy, and didn't get a prayer card to come to the altar, up here to be prayed for, I'm going to pray for you now. I want you to be real reverent. I want each one of you believers to lay your hands over on one another, as a sign.
Now the Bible said ... now this same God that made this promise said this: "These signs shall follow them that believe. If they lay their hands on the sick they shall recover." Any believer, any believer that's got the Holy Spirit, you have the power of God within you, or the authority to pray the prayer of faith. Now, I want you to pray, while I pray for these people.

96 Our heavenly Father, we are happy tonight---preach the Word, and then see God come down and confirm the Word. Then that's the ensign. You promised.
One day a long time ago there was a little boy named David. He was taking care of his father's sheep. He was given a charge to watch these sheep, to keep the enemy from them. He had very little to protect himself with---just a little slingshot.
But one day a lion came into the camp, and it took out one of the lambs. David, being a true shepherd, he wanted to hold that father's sheep. He knew that lion was stealing that sheep, and he would devour the sheep. And the sheep belonged to his father. He went after the lion with bold courage. He slung a little rock, and it knocked the lion down. And he slew the lion, and he brought back the sheep to the fold.

97 Now, God, we are your shepherds. We are not men of knife operations, or of medicine cures. We have a very humble little thing, a slingshot. But that's what you've put in our hands---a slingshot of prayer. The enemy has come in, and grabbed a hold of God's sheep. It's grabbed fathers, and mothers, and children, dragging them out through the bushes---retarded minds, and blind, and cancer-eaten, and devils.
Satan, this little slingshot of prayer seems very simple, but I know what it'll do. I'm coming after that sheep tonight, to bring it back. Come out. Let him alone.
