The Rejected King



1 ...looking for the glory of the Lord to be brought upon us today through the ministering of the Word. This last week I've kind of been just a little under the weather. Not exactly say under the weather, it was a test I had to take, a physical test. And that's what you heard that I was in the hospital. It was because that I went there so I wouldn't have to come back and forth across the river. You take an upper gastronomic, and a lower gastronomic and every few minutes they have to come back and x-ray again.
But we're supposed to take them, if we do overseas missions, every six months. Brother Roberts and them, I think, gets theirs every six months, but I hadn't had one for four years.

2 The trouble---I just don't like that castor oil. That's the only thing. And they say there's nothing else they can give instead, so I... Oh, I got so sick when they give me that stuff. You know, I've told you in my life story how that stuff makes me so sick, and I just hate to take the stuff. And I said to my gracious doctor friend, "Isn't there something else?"
And he said, "I don't think so, Brother Branham."

3 Oh, when that lady come in there with looked like ... maybe I'm exaggerating, but looked like a quart. I never seen so much. And I'd just hold my nose and gag, but I finally got it down.
But now, in all of the trial and all of it went through, I want to thank the Lord for a perfect examination. I passed 100%; can go anywhere in the world that I want to go. I asked the doctors---which was three of the best specialists, I guess, in Louisville---and I asked them, I said, "Am I at least 10% disability?"
He said, "You're not one speck disability." He said, "You are in perfect health every way." And I am so grateful to God. Who else could it come from but our heavenly Father, of being that way. And he said, "All your flow shows in there you'd be young." He said, "Your blood cells haven't even started breaking or anything." He said, "You are in very good shape, Brother Branham."
And I said, "Well, I am so glad."

4 And I had the privilege of talking, witnessing, to every nurse in that hospital and every doctor, to the kingdom of God. One certain doctor, I think he's supposed to be here this morning. And I'm glad to know that there's still good men in this world, real men, men who would take me for five days through a physical examination, which would probably run two or three hundred dollars for each one; when I got through, they said, "It's our contribution to the work of the Lord that you're doing." Not even... Said, "Why, you embarrass us to even ask us if you owe us." Said, "Just your prayers for us."
"And inside," they said, "we find an emotional something that we can't understand." They said, "It doesn't seem to be..." He said, "Outwardly, you're not nervous or disturbed, but" said, "inwardly, there's an emotion that we can't understand."
I said, "If you'll just sit down here just a moment, I'll tell you." And I went to talking about visions. It was another field to them. They knew nothing of it. I told them about the Bible. Then I told them of the vision that the Lord just gave me the other day, and they wept like babies---just sat there and wept.
I said, "I hope that you don't consider me some religious crank or some..."

5 Said, "By no means, Brother Branham. I believe that with all my heart." He said, "But just one thing I want to say, you don't go to school to learn those things"; said, "I believe that they come from the Almighty God." And that was three of the outstanding physicians in Louisville, the best that they had. And so, I was so happy for that and to know that maybe the Lord let me plant some seed along there.

6 Each nurse, talked to them... One morning, coming out of the x-ray room, I said to the ... I looked at a poor old woman; she was so sickly. And I kept moving down, moving down, till I got to her. I thought she might be dying, and I said, "I want to ask you a question, sister."
She said, "Yes, sir?"
I said, "Are you a Christian?"
And she said, "I belong to a certain church."
And I said, "I just want to make that a little clearer." I said, "I want to know if you're a Christian, really a Christian. That if you should pass over this sea of life into the other land, do you love Him?" I said, "Would you really be saved?"
And she said, "Yes, sir, I would."
And I said, "God bless your heart then. No matter which way the wind blows, you're all right then, as long as it goes like that." And if we just get around, there's lots of fine people yet left in the world.

7 Now, today I have come with a vision that I will tell you a little later, and I'd like to speak first on some of the Word, because I believe the Word is very essential---the most essential now.

8 And I'm glad to see Charlie Cox and Brother ... my friends standing there together---Brother ... I can't think ... Jefferies (I can't think of his name), many of you other precious brethren from Georgia, from different parts of the country. My old buddy Bill sitting here (I believe it is) this morning, and many ... and brother from Georgia there, the people that give me this suit. You know, that's one of the best suits I ever wore. It feels just so good. It's really very fine and... You mean so much to me. When I tell you what has happened this last few days to me, you'll see why I think it means so much to me.

9 Now, I believe if the Lord is willing, I want to press the battle harder than ever before in my life, because I find out now as ... of course, I could die today. That's ... you don't know. Electrical cardiograms and everything, sixteen different types of x-rays---a complete physical showed that I was as normally as any person could be, a human being on earth. So I'm thankful for that. But all things, even all of that, and as thankful and grateful to God that I am that I believe He still keeps me in His service, it wasn't what He showed me just a little bit before that, see. It just made me so happy.

10 Now, I think tonight... It's all right, isn't it? Our precious brother is one unselfish man, is Brother Neville. And if any of you was here last Sunday and heard that marvelous message that he brought on "The Cruse of Oil," it was one of the most outstanding messages I ever heard, was what Brother Neville brought by the Holy Spirit last Sunday to this little herd of sheep that God has gathered together. And if it'd be all right, pleasing to the Lord, and with Brother Neville and the church, I want to speak again tonight, and start a series of, say, Monday night, I mean Sunday night, and Wednesday night and next Sunday---a series that what I studied...

11 I wouldn't have had to stay over there to the hospital but they were so good to me. They gave me the room for about one-third the price, and so I just took my Bibles, my books, and wound up the bed, and sat all "a-hunkered" up there and got all my Bibles and things laying around, and I really had a time---until they brought that castor oil in. My good time ceased right there; I was finished then. But, Brother Pat, I was really sick. That stuff I just can't stand. But I was having a good time up for the first three or four days.
I was having a good time, and I was studying on the book of Ephesians. Oh, that setting together of the church, and I think it's a beautiful thing.

12 Now, if you have a church that you go to, you go right ahead and stand at your post of duty, but if you do not have a church, and you'd like to come back tonight, and Wednesday night, and Sunday night, I'd like to take tonight the first book of Ephesus, and Wednesday night the second chapter of Ephesus, and next Sunday the third chapter of Ephesus, to set the church in order. You know what I mean---its placing, positionally, and I think it's an upbuild to the church.
Now, I'm not... I'm just speaking this to the comers of the Branham Tabernacle. And if any of you dear brethren... I know some of you, I think, has got meetings. Our little brothers up at Sellersburg and different ones have meetings. Now look, them's revival meetings. You attend those. They are servants of Christ---young men who are standing in the breach, that's come out. When even their own church denied the truth and things like that, they walked right away from it, and God called them to the ministry.

13 Yes, sir, I admire men... I can't even think of the man's name. But he's a young fellow, fine, handsome-looking fellow and a lovely wife and children.
And Brother Junie Jackson's been having some meetings down here, which is another wonderful, remarkable trophy of God's amazing grace.
And when they're having revivals in your churches, you go right on to them because that's the thing to do, because you don't know---might be a sinner come to the altar, and you might be influenced to lead that person to Christ which will be your great reward across the other side. This is just teaching and setting the church in order here at the Tabernacle, helping along as we go.

14 Now, I didn't bring my watch, so somebody will have to watch for me. Doc's done showed me he has one, so ... [Brother Branham speaks aside to his brother.]

15 Now, I won't speak very long. Now, if there's strangers in our gates, we sure want to welcome you with all of our hearts. You are so welcome here at this little tabernacle. We haven't got much of a building. It's in a program now to build us, not a big place, but just a... This one's just pretty dilapidated, and we're going to try to build us a nice little comfortable church here soon as the Lord will permit us to do it. And a lot of you all are making efforts toward this, and we sure do appreciate that.

16 Now, I want you to turn with me this morning, in reading, to I Samuel the eighth chapter, and begin about the ... let's begin about the nineteenth verse, the nineteenth and twentieth verses, maybe, for a little text for a context. And now as you get it, and before... We'll read it, and then we want to go to prayer; and would there be any requests this morning, and say, "Just remember me?"

17 In our last ... two weeks ago, or three, when I had the meeting... Say, by the way, while you're turning, the meetings start in the Chautauqua the sixth now. We're expecting a great time ---Middletown, Ohio. You that's got your vacations coming up, come on. A big camp right on the river, where there'll be all the preaching you ever heard. They're all up and down the river---preachers every morning, all through the day and night. So they all congregate together. It's a big campgrounds, far bigger than Silver Hills---many times---and then a big place there where we can put between eight and ten thousand people, and it's always packed out. We have great times in Ohio.

18 And old Brother Kidd, that I went to pray for the other morning---you all remember me telling you three weeks ago, the doctor gave him twenty-four hours to live---he's up and walking around. He quoted a Scripture, a song he couldn't sing. And when I went in and looked at him the other morning and that little shawl over him... I left here about three or four hours before day so I could get to him, said he'd die that day---cancer in the prostate.

19 And his precious little old wife washed for fifty cents a day. And that's before daybreak until after night for fifty cents to keep her husband on the field as a preacher. Preached a two-weeks' revival, took up an offering, and got eighty cents. But I seen them sitting there the other morning---them two little old couples (or little couple, rather) sitting there, and his little shawl over his shoulder, and one of his converts---ninety-two years old, just as brilliant and bright, and Pentecost to the core, and sitting there, you know.
And I said, "You, what are you old people sitting out here for?"
"Just waiting for the boat to come."
Their work, all they have achieved, a purpose they have achieved, and they're ready now to go to their reward. And I said to Brother Kidd that morning, "You will be at the Chautauqua meeting."
He called me yesterday, said, "I'll be there, Brother Branham." It was just fine.

20 Many of the ... meeting from my new ministry coming in. A brother---Baptist brother standing here---his daughter, a teen-age, had been kind of a little wayward, and I told him, "I give you your daughter for the Lord Jesus," the other morning, and when he went home she was saved, and the other one here this morning to be baptized, and going on.
And a man, Mr. Sothmann, a friend of mine from Canada---his mother-in-law, in a dying condition. Said, "You'll find your mother-in-law, when you get there, well, on her road to recovery, all right." That's just the way it was. People just coming in. It's just in its infancy now, moving. But, oh, we're expecting the exceedingly abundantly above all. We're in the evil and last days, but in a glorious hour.

21 Now, have you got your Bible for the reading? ... eighth chapter of Samuel. And I promised Gene to stay back there at the record, the rest of this ... we were just beginning in our meeting.
Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;
That we ... may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.
...Samuel heard all these words of the people, and ... rehearsed them in the ears of the Lord.
And the Lord said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.
Now, if I should try to choose from this this morning what I would call a text for the next few minutes, I would like to choose the text of: "The Rejected King."

1 Samuel 8:19 Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;

1 Samuel 8:20 That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.

1 Samuel 8:21 And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the LORD.

1 Samuel 8:22 And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.

22 It was a time that, as in all times, the people have never wanted God to lead them. They want their own way of leadership. And this story this morning (and when you go to your home, it would be good for you to read it all the way through), it was during the time of the days of Samuel, the man of God, the prophet. And he'd been a just man and a good man---honorable, reputable, true and honest with the people, never deceiving them, and telling them nothing but straight "Thus saith the Lord."

23 But the people had come to a place where they wanted to change this program. They had looked upon the Philistines and the Amalekites, Amorites, Hittites, and the other nations of the world, and they had seen that they had kings that ruled them and governed them, and guided them, and fought their battles, and so forth. And this seemed to be that Israel wanted to pattern themselves like these kings and like these people.
But it has never been, in any age, God's intention for His people to act like the people of the world, or to be governed or controlled like the people of the world. God's people always has been a peculiar people, a different people, a called-out, a separated, an altogether different in their action, in their ways, in their manner of living, than what the peoples of the world has. Their appetites for things and all that their make-up is, has been always contrary to the things that the people of the world desire.

24 And the people of Israel came to Samuel and said, "Now, you're getting old, and your sons do not walk in your way," because they wasn't true like Samuel. They were bribers and takers of money. And they said, "Samuel, your boys is not like you, so we want you to go out and to find us a king, and anoint him, and make us a people like the rest of the peoples of the world."
And Samuel tried to tell them that that would not work. He said, "If you do that, the first thing you know, you'll find that he'll call all your sons from your home, and make soldiers out of them to run before his chariots and bear armors and spears. Not only that, but he'll call your daughters to make bakers of bread, and take them away from you to feed the army." And said, "Besides all that, he'll take certain taxes off of you, of your grain, and all your income. He'll tax all of that to make certain government debts and so forth that'll have to be paid." He said, "I think you are altogether making a mistake."
But when ... the people said, "But we still want to be like the rest of the people."

1 Samuel 8:3 And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.

1 Samuel 8:5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

1 Samuel 8:11 And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots.

1 Samuel 8:12 And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots.

1 Samuel 8:13 And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.

1 Samuel 8:15 And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.

1 Samuel 8:16 And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put them to his work.

1 Samuel 8:17 He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants.

1 Samuel 8:19 Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;

25 There's something about men and women that they long to be like one another. And there has only been one man ever lived on earth that was our example: that was the one that died for us all, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He was the perfect example of what we should be---always about the Father's business and doing that which is right.

2 Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

2 Corinthians 5:15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

26 And no matter how much that Samuel tried to persuade the people, continually they went after him day and night. "We want a king. We want a man. We want a man that we can say, 'This is our guide.'" And that has never been the will of God. It never was the will of God, or it never will be the will of God for men to rule over one another. God rules over man. God is our ruler, our King. And it's very much of a parallel of today because that man seems to have that same idea. They don't seem to be able to grasp that God still rules man, instead of man ruling man.
So, they chose themselves a man named Saul, which was the son of Kish. And he was a reputable man, an honorable man. But he suited the people just right because he was a great, tall, noble stature of a man. The Scriptures said he was head and shoulders above any man in Israel. He was kingly looking, and he was handsome in the face. He was a brilliant and an extraordinary man.

1 Samuel 8:6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.

1 Samuel 9:2 And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.

1 Samuel 10:23 And they ran and fetched him thence: and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.

1 Samuel 11:15 And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

27 Now, that's the kind of man that the people like to choose today. The people does not seem to be satisfied with the way that God placed His church to be governed and controlled by the Holy Spirit. They want somebody, some man, some denomination, some certain people to govern the church, that they're not able to throw themselves completely into God's hand to be spiritual, to be led by the Holy Spirit. They want somebody to do their religion for them, somebody that will tell them just how to do it and all about it. So this man seemed to suit the place exactly, because he was a very intellectual man.
And it's a whole lot like today. We like to choose such people, too, to control our churches, to control the church of God. Nothing that I have to say against it, but just merely to make a point, that it is not, it was not, and it will never be the will of God for such to be. God is to rule His people, to govern each individual.

28 Then we find that this son of Kish---great man, and his stature, and his... He seemed to suit the people, that his robe upon him would look great and the crown on his head---way and above all the other people as he walked---would be a real asset to the kingdom of Israel, for the other kings of the other nations would think, "Look what a man!" How they could point their finger and say, "Look here, what a great king we've got! Look what a great man that's over us!"
And sad to say, but how true it is today with the church. They love to say, "Our pastor is not a narrow-minded man; he is a great man. He is a graduate from Harvard or some great school of theology. He has four degrees out of so-and-such a place, and he's a very good mixer amongst the people." All that may be all right and have its place, but God's way for His church is to be led by the Holy Ghost and by His Spirit. But they like to say that, "We have this great denomination that we belong to. We have started back in the early pioneer days when we were in the minority, just a very few people and small. And now we have grown until the place that we are among the largest denominations there is. We have the best schools and the best educated ministers. We have the best-dressed crowds, and the most intellectual people of the city attends our denomination. And we give to charity, and we do good deeds and all such." And nothing at all ... God forbid that I should speak one word against that, for that is all good; but still it isn't the will of God that man should rule over man.

29 God sent, on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Ghost to rule in men's hearts and rule in his life. It was not meant for man to rule over man.
But we love to say that. It's a very outstanding thing when we can say we belong to such a great organization. Are you a Christian? That's how I fell upon this text. When I was at the hospital, and I would ask one, "Are you a Christian?" "I belong to such-and-such."
"Are you a Christian?"
"I belong to such-and-such."
And the little nurse came in to the bedside where I was reading the Bible, and she was a new nurse on the floor, and she said, "How do you do?" She said, "I believe that you're Reverend Branham here for a physical checkup."
I said, "I am."
And she said, "May I rub your back to make you feel a little better, with the alcohol?"
And I said, "You may do it."
And while she was rubbing on my back, she said, "What denomination of church do you belong to?"
And I said, "Oh, I belong to the oldest denomination that there is."
And she said, "What denomination is that?"
I said, "It's the one that was organized before the world was ever organized."
"Oh," she said, "what...? I don't believe I know just that..." She said, "I belong to a certain church. Is it that organization?"
I said, "No, ma'am. That was only about two hundred years ago---that organization. But this organization started when the morning stars sang together, and the sons of God shouted for joy, when they seen the coming of a Saviour to redeem mankind."

Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

30 And she just stopped rubbing my back, and I was stooped a little over this way so the lady could rub (and she was from near Corydon down here), and we got to talking, and she said, "Sir, I've always believed that if God ever was God, He's still God today just like He was in the old days." She said, "Though my church flatly denies that, but I believe that it is the truth."
And I said, "You're not far from the kingdom of God, young woman."
She said, "If He ever was a healer, isn't He still a healer?"
I said, "He most certainly is, my sister."

31 But man wants to rule, and rule over man; and man wants man to rule over him. He doesn't want to have God to rule.
So this son of Kish (Saul, by name) was just an answer to what they had wanted. The great stately man and the ... oh, he could just lead them to their battles, and so forth. Still, it wasn't God's way of doing things. God wanted His faithful old prophet to direct them and speak His words to them.

32 Now, today, in our great church age that we live in, I think and believe this with all my heart, that we have exactly gone vice versa from what God ordained us to do. The last words of our Saviour was in Mark 16, said: "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name they shall cast out devils; they shall speak with a new tongue; And if they should take up serpents or drink deadly things, it would not harm them; And if they lay their hands on the sick, they shall recover."

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

33 There is not a man, there's no son of Kish, or no one else can produce that outside of the leadership of the Holy Spirit. But we have made schools, we have made seminaries, and made organizations to satisfy and to look like the rest of the world.
Now, the Holy Spirit used to be the leader in this nation. This nation used to be governed, when back in ... when they wrote up the Declaration of Independence, and there was an extra chair sitting there. There is not one speck of doubt in my mind but what the Son of God sat at that table when this nation was founded upon the principles of freedom of religion, and freedom to all, and upon the basis of God's eternal Word. But we have corrupted that---politics. We have voted men in there under buying and selling and promises of falsehood, until our nation and our politics and our democracy is so polluted until it's interwoven with communism and all kinds of "isms."

34 And many times we call into the sessions for prayer, when Leagues of Nations meet in there, or to have discussions. And in one certain great time recently, there was not even one time called for prayer! How are we ever going to settle differences without prayer? How can we ever expect in all the world to ever do anything without the leadership of the Holy Spirit?
But let me say this with love and respect to our nation, and to its flag, and to the republic for which it stands: we have rejected our leader, the Holy Spirit, and through corrupt politics have brought in men of perverse mind. And if you don't watch, they're going to make one of the most fatal mistakes they've ever made right now. It is because that the people are desiring man to rule.

35 What we need in the capitol of this United States as a president, what we need in Congress, what we need in our halls of justice, is men who have consecrated their lives to God, and are filled with the Holy Ghost, and are led by His divine direction. But instead of that, we choose men of intellectual, men who have forms of godliness and deny the power of God, men who are atheists and sometimes even worse than that---we've brought into our political realms of our nation.
Not only that but in our churches. Our churches have become corrupt upon the basis that we, in choosing our shepherds to lead us, we have gone to the seminaries and have selected men that's great intellectual giants, men who are very brilliant in mind, men who have scholarship, and are great mixers amongst the people, and are great men in the neighborhood---which I have nothing to say against. Men who are kind in their ways of walk, careful in their ways of life, and how they conduct themselves among other men and among people, great men in their fields, which I do not speak evil of---God forbid that my spirit would ever be that evil. But still, that isn't what God chose for us! It's the leadership of the Holy Spirit, Christ in the heart of man.

2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

36 Many of those intellectual men that stands in our pulpit deny the real existence of the Holy Ghost. Many of them deny the existence of divine healing and the power of the Spirit.

37 I was reading an article (yesterday I believe it was), a series of newspaper clippings from Jack Coe, the late Jack Coe, one of my converts to the Lord Jesus, who was a mighty man of valor in his day, and was called to question down in Florida, because of asking a young child to remove its braces from its legs and to walk across the platform. And upon doing so, the child walked across the platform normally, and fell when it got to its mother---all being a setup of the enemy of Christ.
This young woman and her husband brought our gallant brother into the courts of the land. And when every church ought to have stood by Brother Jack, when every churchman that mentions the name of Jesus Christ should've stood by his side gallantly, every man that calls on the name of the Lord Jesus should have fell to their knees in prayer; but instead of that, across the headlines of the papers, one of our great denominations said they joined hands with the atheists to condemn and prison Brother Jack Coe. Could you imagine a church calling themselves the name of Christ, would join hands with an atheist to condemn a godly man, who was trying with all of his heart to stand for the Bible? But they did it.

38 And then Brother Gordon Lindsay was at the rescue, and when the unbelieving judge said, "This man is a fraud, because he taken the braces from that child and sent him across the platform, and said he was healed; and he lied and he did something contrary to the doctor's orders. Therefore, he has a defraud case against him."
And Mr. Coe raised up, and he said, "Sir, I defy that statement. God healed the boy."
And the judge said, "I will ask any man in this court if that statement could be true that God could heal that boy on one end of the platform, and let him be sick on the other end. If that statement can be proved by the Bible, then I say Mr. Coe has a right for his statement."
And a minister raised his hand and said, "Your Honor, sir, may I state it?"
And the judge said, "State on."

39 And the minister stood to his feet and said, "One night on the rocking sea, when a little ship was about to go to the bottom, all hopes of being saved was gone. They saw Jesus, the Son of God, come walking on water. And one of the apostles, by the name of Peter, said, 'If that be you, Lord, bid me come to you on the water.' And He said ... The Lord said to the apostle, Peter, 'Come on.' And he stepped out of the boat, sir, walking just as good as Jesus was walking on the water. But when he got scared, he begin to sink before he got to Jesus."
The judge said, "The case is dismissed."

Matthew 14:25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

Matthew 14:28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

Matthew 14:30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

Mark 6:48 And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.

John 6:19 So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid.

40 We need Holy Spirit leadership---not intellectual men.
Saul, the son of Kish, was then made captain over the people. And he taken two thousand men and Jonathan taken a thousand, and Jonathan went down to a garrison and smote a bunch of Amorites---Ammonites rather. And when he had smote them, Saul sounded a trumpet and said, "You see what Saul has done." He began to get puffed up.
Just as soon as a man gets to be some great doctor of divinity, or gets a little something behind his name, he becomes more or less a "know-it-all." God's men are humble men. God's people are humble people.
When you see someone who says they have received the Holy Spirit and begins to separate themselves, seemingly not having the faith, going about trying to be something that they're not, just remember, they haven't received the Lord Jesus.

1 Samuel 10:21 When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found.

1 Samuel 11:15 And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

1 Samuel 13:2 Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel; whereof two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in mount Bethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin: and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent.

1 Samuel 13:3 And Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba, and the Philistines heard of it. And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, Let the Hebrews hear.

41 Then we find that the enemy set in, and he was going to come into a little bunch of God's people and was going to pluck out the right eye of every man. That's what the enemy always tries to do, is pluck out both eyes if he can, so that the people cannot see what they're doing. That's what Satan tries to do today to every Christian: pluck out his spiritual sight, that he can only follow the intellectual sense of things and not the sense of the Holy Spirit leading him.
So then when they did that, when the great defeat came, then Saul cut up two great ox and sent them to all the people. And I wish you would notice here, when Saul sent the pieces of the ox to all Israel and said, "Let every man that will not follow Samuel and Saul, let him, this ox ... be as this." Do you see how deceitful he tried to represent himself with the man of God? How unchristian it was. The fear of the people was because of Samuel. But Saul got them all to follow him because that the people feared Samuel. "Let them come after Samuel and Saul."

42 And how many times today have we heard it: "We are the great church," "We are the Church of Christ," "We are the church of God," "We are the So-and-So." It makes the people get a fear, and think that that really is where God's working. And they don't want the leadership of the Holy Spirit; they'd rather follow men like that, because they like to live their own individual life. They like to believe what they want to believe.
Do you see the Holy Spirit is our judge? God never give us a pope, or a bishop, or anybody to be a judge. The Holy Spirit, the person of God in the form of the Holy Spirit, is our judge and our guide.

43 Now why is that?
Please pardon this rude and most rude expression. I do not mean it to be mean; I say it from love. But the Holy Spirit says it's wrong for our women to cut their hair, and it's wrong for our women to wear little shorts and slacks and to make up their lips and face with paint. The Holy Spirit says it's wrong, but we want men to tell us that it's all right.
As long as we follow "me and Samuel." They like to live through six days any way they want to, and go to church on Sunday morning; and a fine intellectual college graduate with plenty of degrees can speak to them a little sermon that will ... a few jokes that would tickle their ears and cause them to be entertained like some movie or television program; and say a little prayer over them, and send them home with kind of a self-satisfied security that they've done their religion.
That is not the will of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit wants you to live godly every day in the week and every night, separating yourselves from the things of the world. But the church don't want that. They want some man who can interpret the Bible the way that they want to hear it. They won't listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking through the Bible.

44 Many of them want to say, "The days of miracles is past." That's what tickles the people. They want to say, "There's no baptism of the Holy Spirit." The people don't want to act any different than what the rest of the world acts. They don't want to get on the street and to have their face washed, and men with clean countenance and not cigarettes in their mouth, and cigars, and pipes, and the things that men do; and women want their hair cut up real short and little dresses on, showing their forms and things that they want. They want men who'll tell them that's all right.

45 Then the other night here came a man to tell me that because that I'd preached against such, that a great denomination, about five of them, said, "We'll drop Brother Branham and have nothing else to do with him. You'll either call those tapes back and apologize for them, or we'll drop you."
I said, "I'll stand with God's Word though you take everything that's in my life. I'll remain with the Word and I..."
Said, "Well, should you not call back such-and-such a tape?"
I said, "I have never preached anything in my life that I was ashamed of. I'll call back no tapes, or no records. I'll remain with what the Holy Spirit says. That I'll live by and die by." I'm not trying to say about myself now, but I'm just trying to give you an illustration of what's going on so you will see and understand. It's people wants to be led by man.

46 They didn't want Samuel. Then before they anointed Samuel king ---or Saul king, pardon me---Samuel came to them again. And I'm going to speak just in language like he would have said it today. You may read it.
He said, "What is the matter with God being your King?"
"Well, we don't see God."
"Well, I am His representative." Samuel said, "Have I ever told you anything wrong? Have I ever prophesied anything that didn't come to pass just as I said it would do? Have not I told you the Word of the Lord? And I'll ask you this: Have I ever come to you and begged any of your money? Have I ever took anything from you? Have I ever brought you anything but straight "Thus saith the Lord"? And God has vindicated it every time that it was the truth, and He sent a thunderstorm and rain." You know the scripture right there, to prove that Samuel was God's mouthpiece.
And as Samuel perfectly represented today the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit is God's mouthpiece that speaks just exactly what the Bible says, that believes just what the Bible says and won't vary from it one bit. But they wanted somebody who could tell them different.

1 Samuel 12:3 Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.

1 Samuel 12:4 And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man's hand.

1 Samuel 12:5 And he said unto them, The LORD is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found ought in my hand. And they answered, He is witness.

47 And the people could not say that Samuel's prophecy wasn't perfect. They answered and said, "Samuel, all that you have spoke in the name of the Lord, the Lord has brought it to pass just as you said. There is not one flaw. You never did come to us and beg us for our money. You have supported yourself. You've never asked us to do any great outstanding thing for you. You've trusted in your God, and He has delivered you from all things. And your words are true, everything you spoke in the name of the Lord has been just as you said; but still we want a king!"

1 Samuel 8:6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.

48 Can you see the discrepancy? Can you see the cunningness of the devil can work on a human being? Instead of yielding himself, or herself, to the Holy Spirit and listen to what "Thus saith the Lord" is for a pure life, an undefiled character, for a different life, a peculiar people, a holy nation, an odd-acting people, they'd rather coincide with the world, and act like the world, and go to some church that says, "That's all right. Just act like that and go on."
Can you see what it is? They say, "There's no such a thing as healing. Oh, the baptism of the Holy Spirit was a framework to the church." In other words, then God taken men, took the Holy Spirit out of the church, and let the denomination build it up. Never, never. There's no such a thing. The Holy Spirit, the Word of truth, was to guide you until Jesus comes. But that's the way it went.

1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

49 Saul came into power. He got a great following. Oh, he had beautiful armors, he had singers, he had shields, and he had spears. Oh, he outshined all the rest of the nations. And he brought them into a democracy that was beyond anything that anybody had ever heard of.
And that's exactly what our denominations and churches has done today. We have the biggest church buildings in the world. We have the prettiest dressed people in the world. We have the highest scholarships that can be brought. Like Saul's trained men who could take that spear, and they could move it and maneuver till nations feared them. They were a trained people, and all.
But one day, there came a time that there was a challenger come out. And it so excited the whole Israelite army till they stood trembling in their shoes. Goliath made them a challenge: "If your God is what you say He is, you are the best trained ..." and he challenged them. They didn't know what to do. Their fine, polished armors wouldn't work. Their spears wouldn't work. There was something they hadn't heard of before was taking place.

1 Samuel 17:4 And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.

1 Samuel 17:8 And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.

50 And with all reverence, and godly respects, and honor, and dignity, and love, and Christian fellowship, I say this: I read the other day in an African paper where that our son of Kish, our challenger of evangelism, when a Mohammedan challenged him (Billy Graham), said, "If your God is God, let him heal the sick like he said he'd do!" and the son of Kish, with the rest of the army, quietened themselves and left the country defeated. It's a disgrace. Our God is God!
We have our good churches, we have our fine evangelism, we have our paid singers, we have the best choirs, the highest spires in the country. We have the finest men, some of the most money. We have the intellectual, we have theology down to the point. We can preach it, we can tell it, we can evangelize and bring people in, and make millions each year of converts into the church. Our paid singers, our intellectual evangelism doesn't know how to meet a challenge like that. They know nothing of it. They know nothing of His healing power, of the baptism of the Holy Ghost, of a power that can take a shadow of a man dying with a cancer and set him free. They know nothing of it. They haven't been trained in that field, as Saul and his man-made group was.

51 But let me say to the people of God and to you children, that you might know that God never leaves you without a witness: Not knowing to Saul---Saul knew nothing about it---but God had a little David back over behind the hill somewhere that wasn't feeding sheep on ecclesiastical weeds. He was leading them beside still waters and in green pastures! He was mindful of his father's sheep, and if something run in, an enemy, to grab one of his father's sheep, he knew the power of God to deliver that sheep!
God's still got a David somewhere that knows what it means to deliver one of God's sheep by the power of God. He still knows all about it. He had trusted... He didn't know nothing about Saul's armor, neither did he want any of it. He didn't want any of their denominations; he didn't want the old armor upon him. He said, "I don't know nothing about it! But let me go in the power that I know of."

1 Samuel 17:39 And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.

Psalm 23:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

52 He had fed his father's sheep. He had took care of the pastures. He had given them the right kind of food, and they lived and thrived. "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God man shall live." The true shepherd feeds them---"Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever." And if the enemy grabs one in sickness, he knows the power of God.
Look at little David, stood there. Said, "That guy is a warrior from his birth. And from his youth he's known nothing but a spear and an armor. He's well trained. [He's a theologian.] And you know nothing about it!
He said, "That is true, sir. I don't know nothing about his theological training, but there's one thing I do know: that when an enemy came in to take one of my father's sheep, I went with the power of God. I delivered him! I brought him safely back to good health again. I brought him back to the shady green pastures and the still waters. And the God that delivered the lion into my hands, and I slew him when he took one of the lambs, and He let me slay the bear, so will the God of heaven go with me to slay this uncircumcised Philistine!" We need leadership of the Holy Spirit.

Deuteronomy 8:3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.

1 Samuel 17:33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.

1 Samuel 17:34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:

1 Samuel 17:35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.

1 Samuel 17:36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.

1 Samuel 17:37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

53 I don't know my days. No one does. The other morning I was laying in my bed. And I had been asleep, and I dreamed that Joseph was sick, and I had picked him up to pray for him. And when I woke up I was very upset. I said, 'Well, maybe Joseph is going to be sick." And I looked going before me in a little dark shadow, rather of a brownish color, and it seemed like it was me. And I watched it, and coming behind it was someone white, and it was Him. I looked over to my wife to see if she was awake that I could show her, she could see the vision but she was sleeping. I said, "Oh, I'm sorry, Lord, but that's been my life. You've had to drive me to everything that I've done. Every time anything would happen, I'd think it was You doing it, and I realize it was Satan trying to keep me away from it." I said, "If You could only lead me." And as I looked I saw the prettiest face I ever saw on a man. He was in front of me looking back. He raised His hand and got ahold of mine and started moving this a-way. The vision left me.

54 Last Sunday morning I'd wakened up early. That was on Saturday, this vision. I've always worried. I've always thought of dying. Me, being fifty, my time is not ... I didn't think was too long. I wondered what I would be in this theophany, celestial body. Would it be that I'd see my precious friends and see a little white fog going by and say, "There goes Brother Neville," and he couldn't say, "Hello, Brother Branham."? And when Jesus came, then I'd be man again. I often thought that.
I was dreaming that I was out west and coming down through a little sagebrush place, and my wife was with me, and we'd been trout fishing. I stopped and opened up the gate, and the skies were so pretty. They didn't look like they do over the valley here. They were blue and the pretty white clouds. And I said to wife, I said, "We ought to have been out here a long time ago, Honey."
She said, "For the children's sake, we should've been, Billy."
I said, "That's..."

55 I woke up. I thought, "I'm dreaming so much, I wonder why." And I looked down and she was laying by me. And I raised up on my pillow, as many of you people have done, put my head upon the headboard of the bed and put my hands behind me. And I was laying there like this, and I said, "Well, I just wonder what it will be, the other side. I am already fifty, and I haven't done nothing yet. If I could only do something to help the Lord. For I know I won't be mortal ... half of my time is gone, at least, or more than half. If I live to be as old as my people, still half of my time is gone." And I looked around, and I was laying there fixing to get up. It was about seven o'clock. I said, "I believe I'll go down to church this morning, if I am hoarse. I'd like to hear Brother Neville preach."
So I said, "Are you awake, Honey?" And she was sleeping very soundly.
And I don't want you to miss this. It has changed me. I can't be the same Brother Branham that I was.

56 And I looked, and I heard something kept saying, "You're just starting. Press the battle. Just keep pressing."
I shook my head a minute. I thought, "Well, I'm probably just thinking like this, you know, a person can get some imaginations," and I said, "I just probably imagined that."
It said, "Press the battle! Keep going! Keep going!"
I said, "Maybe I said it."
And I put my lips within my teeth, and put my hand over my mouth, and there it come again. Said, "Just keep pressing. If you only knew what was at the end of the road." And it seemed like I could hear Graham Snelling or somebody that sang that song like this; they sing it here---Anna Mae and all of you all:
I am homesick and blue and I want to see Jesus;
I would like to hear those sweet harbor bells chime;
It would brighten my path and would banish all fears;
Lord, let me look past the curtain of time.
You've heard it sang here at the church.
And I heard something say, "Would you like to see just beyond the curtain?"
I said, "It would help me so much." And I looked, in just a moment, one breath, I'd come into a little place that slanted. I looked back, and there I was laying on the bed. And I said, "This is a strange thing."

57 Now, I would not want you to repeat this. This is before my church, or my sheep that I am pastoring. Whether it was I was in this body or out, whether it was a translation... It wasn't like any vision I ever had. I could look there, and I could look here. And when I hit that little place, I never seen so many people come running, screaming, "Oh, our precious brother!" And I looked, and young women, maybe in their early twenties, eighteen to twenty, they were throwing their arms around me and screaming, "Our precious brother."
Here come young men in the brilliance of young manhood, and their eyes glistening and looking like stars on a darkened night, their teeth as white as pearl, and they were screaming and grabbing me and screaming, "Oh, our precious brother!" And I stopped and I looked, and I was young. I looked back at my old body laying there with my hands behind my head. I said, "I don't understand this."
And these young women throwing their arms around me.

58 Now, I do realize this is a mixed audience, and I say this with the sweetness and with the mellowness of the Spirit. Men cannot put your arm around women without a human sensation. But it wasn't there. There was no yesterday nor tomorrow. They didn't get tired. They were... I never seen such pretty women in all my life. They had hair way down to their waistline, long skirts to their feet, and they were just a-hugging me. It wasn't a hug like even my own sister sitting there would hug me. They were not kissing me, and I was not kissing them. It was something that I have not got the vocabulary; I haven't got the words to say. Perfection wouldn't touch it. Superb wouldn't even touch it nowhere. It was something that I never... You'd just have to be there.

59 And I looked this way and that way, and they were coming by the thousands. And I said, "I don't understand this." I said, "Why, they..." And here come Hope---that was my first wife. She run, and never said, "My husband." She said, "My precious brother." And when she hugged me, there was another woman standing there that'd hugged me, and then Hope hugged this woman, and each one... I thought, "This has to be something different, it can't be. There's something..." Oh, would I ever want to go back to that old carcass again? I looked around there and I thought, "What is this?" And I looked real good, and I said, "I can't understand this." But Hope seemed to be like, oh, a guest of honor. She was no different, but just like a guest of honor.

60 And I heard a voice then that spoke to me that was in the room, said, "This is what you preached was the Holy Ghost. This is perfect love. And nothing can enter here without it."
I am more determined than ever in my life that it takes perfect love to enter there. There was no jealousy. There was no tiredness. There was no death. Sickness could never enter there. Mortality could never make you old, and they could not cry. It was just one joy---"Oh, my precious brother."
And they took me up and sat me up on a great big high place. And I thought, "I am not dreaming. I'm looking back at my body laying there here on the bed." And they sat me up there, and I said, "Oh, I shouldn't sit up here."
And here come women and men from both sides, just in the bloom of youth, screaming. And one woman was standing there and she screamed, "Oh, my precious brother. Oh, we are so happy to see you here."
I said, "I don't understand this."
And then that voice that was speaking from above me, said, "You know it is written in the Bible that the prophets were gathered with their people."
And I said, "Yes, I remember that in the Scriptures."
Said, "Well, this is when you will gather with your people."
I said, "Then they'll be real, and I can feel them."
"Oh, yes."
I said, "But there's millions. There's not that many Branhams."
And that voice said, "They're not Branhams; them's your converts. That's the ones that you've led to the Lord." And said, "Some of them women there that you think are so beautiful were better than ninety years old when you led them to the Lord. No wonder they're screaming, 'Our precious brother.'"
And they screamed all at once, "If you hadn't have went, we wouldn't be here."

Genesis 25:8 Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.

61 I looked around and I thought, "Well, I don't get it." I said, "Oh, where is Jesus? I want to see Him so bad."
They said, "Now, He's just a little higher, right up that way." Said, "Some day He will come to you," see. Said, "You were sent for a leader and God will come, and when He does, He'll judge you according to what you taught them, first, whether they go in or not. We'll go in according to your teaching."
I said, "Oh, I'm so glad! Did Paul ... does he have to stand like this? Does Peter have to stand like this?"
"Yes."
I said, "Then I've preached every word that they preached." I never divvied from it one side to the other. Where they baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, I did too. Where they taught the baptism of the Holy Ghost, I did too. Whatever they taught, I did too."
And them people screamed and said, "We know that, and we know we're going with you someday back to earth." Said, "Jesus will come, and you'll be judged according to the Word that you preached us. And then, if you are accepted at that time, which you will be," and said, "then you will present us to Him as your trophies of your ministry." Said, "You will guide us to Him and altogether we'll go back to the earth to live forever."
I said, "Do I have to return back now?"
"Yes, but keep pressing on."

62 I looked, and I could see the people just as far as I could see, still coming, wanting to hug me, screaming, "Our precious brother."
Just then a voice said, "All that you ever loved, and all that ever loved you, God has given you here." And I looked, and here come my old dog come walking up. Here come my horse and laid his head up over my shoulder and nickered. Said, "All that you ever loved and all that ever loved you, God has given them into your hand through your ministry."
And I felt myself move from that beautiful place. And I looked around. I said, "Are you awake, Honey?" She was still asleep, and I thought, "O God! Oh, help me, O God. Never let me compromise with one word. Let me stay right straight on that Word and preach it. I don't care what comes or goes, what anybody does, how many Sauls, sons of Kish, rise, how many this, that, or the other, let me, Lord, press to that place."

63 All fear of death ... I say this with my Bible before me this morning. I've got a little boy there, four years old, to be raised. I've got a nine year old girl and a teen-ager that I'm thankful for, that's turned the way of the Lord. God, let me live to bring them up in the admonition of God. Above that, the whole world seems to scream to me. Ninety-year-old women and men and all kinds, "If you hadn't have went, we wouldn't have been here." God let me press the battle. But if it comes to dying, I am no more... It would be a joy, it would be a pleasure to enter from this corruption and disgrace.
If I could make up yonder, one hundred billion miles high, a square block, and that's perfect love. Each step this way it narrows, until we get down to where we are now. It would be just merely a shadow of corruption. That little something that we can sense and feel that there's something somewhere, we don't know what it is. O my precious friends, my beloved, my darlings of the gospel, my begotten children unto God, listen to me, your pastor. I wish there was some way I could explain it to you. There's no words. I couldn't find it. It's not found anywhere. But just beyond this last breath is the most glorious thing that you ever... There is no way to explain it. There's no way; I just can't do it. But whatever you do, friends, lay aside everything else till you get perfect love. Get to a spot that you can love everybody, every enemy, everything else. That one visit there to me has made me a different man. I can never, never, never be the same Brother Branham that I was.

Ephesians 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

64 Whether the planes are rocking, whether the lightning's a-flashing, whether the spies has a gun on me, whatever it is, it doesn't matter. I'm going to press the battle by the grace of God while I preach the gospel to every creature and every person that I can, persuading them to that beautiful land yonder.
It may seem hard, it may take a lot of strength. I don't know how much longer. We don't know. Physically speaking, from my examination the other day, said, "You've got twenty-five years of hard, good life. You're solid." That helped me. But oh, that wasn't it. That isn't it. It's something within here. This corruption has got to put on incorruption; this mortal has got to put on immortality.

1 Corinthians 15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

65 Sons of Kish may rise. All the good things they do, I have nothing evil to say against it---giving to the poor and to charity. And remember, why, Samuel told Saul, "You'll also prophesy." And many of those men are great mighty preachers, can preach the Word like archangels. But still it wasn't God's will. God was to be their King. Brother, sister, you let the Holy Spirit lead you. Let us bow our heads just a moment.
I'm so homesick and blue, and I want to see Jesus,
I would like to hear those sweet harbor bells chime.
It would brighten my path and would banish all fear;
Lord, let us look a-past the curtain of time.

1 Samuel 10:6 And the spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

66 I'm sure, Lord, if this little church this morning could just look a-past the curtain... Not an affliction among them, nor never could be. Not a sickness, nothing but perfection. And it's just one breath between here and there---from old age to youth, from time to eternity. From a worry of tomorrow and sorrow of yesterday till a present time of eternity in perfection.
I pray, God, that You will bless every person here. If there be those here, Lord, who does not know You in that way of love... And truly, Father, nothing could enter that holy place without that type of love---the new birth, to be born again. The Holy Spirit, God, is love. And we know that that is true. No matter if we move mountains by our faith, if we did great things, still without that there, we could never climb that great ladder yonder. But with that, it'll lift us beyond this earthly care.
I pray, Father, that You'll bless the people here, and may that every person that has heard me this morning tell this truth, that You be my witness, Lord. As Samuel of old, "Have I ever told them anything in Your name but what was true?" They are the judges. And I tell them now, Lord, that You've taken me to that land. Thou knowest that it's true. And now, Father, if there be some that doesn't know You, may this be the hour that they say, "Lord, place within me the will to be Thy will." Grant it, Father.

1 Samuel 12:3 Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.

1 Samuel 12:4 And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man's hand.

1 Samuel 12:5 And he said unto them, The LORD is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found ought in my hand. And they answered, He is witness.

67 And now you with your heads bowed, would you raise your hands and say, "Pray for me, Brother Branham, God will within me."
Now, while you're right where you are, just real sweetly, why don't you just say to Father, "God, within my heart, today I renounce all things of the world. I renounce everything to love You and serve You all my life. And I will from this day henceforth follow You in every Scripture of Your Bible." If you have not been baptized in the Christian baptism, "I will, Lord." "If I have not yet received the Holy Ghost..." You'll know when you received it. It'll give to you ... it'll give to you the assurance and love that you need. Oh, you might have done different, had sensations, like you might have shouted or spoke with tongues, which is fine, but if that divine love isn't there... Believe me, now.
Say, "Lord, place within my heart and in my soul the reaching of Your Spirit, that I might love and honor and have that divine love in my heart today that would take me to that land when my final breath leaves me." While we pray, you pray yourself, now. In your own way, you pray. Ask God to do that for you. I love you. I love you, you precious gray-headed men sitting here, who has worked hard and fed little children; you poor old mamas who's stroked the tears from their eyes. Let me assure you this, sister dear, it isn't that way across the other breath yonder. I believe that it is absolutely in the room. It's just a dimension that we live into; this is just a corruption that we live in now. "Will in me, Lord, Thy will to be." You pray while we pray together.

68 Reverently, Lord, upon the basis of Thy Word and Thy Holy Spirit, we are so glad that we know where our birth comes from. We are glad that we were born, not of the will of man, nor of the will of flesh, but of the will of God. And we pray today, Father, that these who are now asking for pardoning grace, that Your Spirit will do that work, Lord. There's no way for me to do it. I'm just a man, another son of Kish. But we need You, the Holy Spirit. God, let me be as Samuel---one who tells the truth of the Word. And you have vindicated it so far, and I believe that You will continue as long as I stay true to You.
May they all now receive eternal life, Father. May this day never depart from them. And the hour when they come to leave this world, may this, what I have just said to them, open to a reality. And as we sit here mortal today, looking at our watch, thinking of our dinner, of work tomorrow, of the cares and toils of life, they'll not be then. They'll all fade away. There will be no cares---one great joy of eternity. Give them that type of life, Father, every one. And may ... I ask you this, Father, that every person that's here this morning that's heard me say this vision, may I meet every one of them on the other side. Though there may be men here that would disagree with me, and women too, but Father, never let that stand in our way. May we meet them over there, and they run, too, and we grab each other, screaming, "Our precious brother." Let it be like it was shown there, Lord, to every one. All that I loved and all that loved me. I pray that it'll be that way, Lord. And I love them all. Let them appear, Father. I offer them eternal life now. May they do their part to accept it. For I ask it in Jesus' name. Amen.

John 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

69 We have just a few moments to pray for the sick. I see we've got a little sick girl here and a lady in the chair. Now, to my most precious brethren, sisters, please do not misunderstand me. I don't know what happened. I don't know what happened. But, God, when I die let me go back there. Just let me go to that place, is where I want to be, wherever it was. I'm not trying to be a Paul that was caught up in the third heaven. I'm not saying that. I believe that He was just trying to encourage me, trying to give me a little something to push me on in my new ministry coming up.

70 Would it seem irreverent if I read something here just a minute? Would it be all right? One of the nation's leading magazines---Billy Graham: "Dr. Billy Graham invited to Islam," on the front page of the "Afrikaans Times," February 15, 1960. The writer for the article, who was a Moslem (Mohammedan) thinks that miracles should follow the preaching of the gospel of Christ---the same, yesterday, today, and forever. We quote:
"It is this Christ promised His followers when He said, 'He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; even greater than these shall he do.' Has the church ever done the works that ... the attributes of Christ in the Bible? Can it today? Can any of the church (distinguish) perform even half the miracles performed by Christ? Not to say greater works. Can you as an individual renowned, advocate of the Christian, raise the dead to physical life? Can you walk on the seas? Can you heal the sick and give sight to the blind? Is not this according to the above-mentioned era set forth of the Mohammedan? Or set ... or the test by Christ which follows as the statements of somewhere in your belief?"

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

71 Much to the Moslem article is plainly one misstatement after another. They discredit this Moslem, but he was right. Here's what they had to say:
"The best answer to which to read the Bible and to know the Koran. The Koran suffers that the ... suffered by the comparison. The claim of Mohammedism is out-standing and out-pacing Christianity, is pure b-o-m-b-a-s-t-i-c (bombastic, I suppose), imagination. The writer nevertheless has touched a vital point regarding miracles belonging to the church. But here again we doubt the writer's sincerity. For who could point out and could dispute the miracles done by Reverend William Branham before the Moslems in South Africa, when ten thousand received Christ as Saviour under the ministry of William Branham at Durban, South Africa and elsewhere throughout the world, or to T. L. Osborn in East Africa. Of course we stand 100% for Billy Graham. We've talked the point of question---this point of question is of no value."

72 In the midst of every bit of it, he told me ... said we were fanatics, we didn't know what we were doing. They had to witness in their own paper that God did do it anyhow. God's just as much God today as He ever was. You might not think that they don't believe it, they don't see it. It isn't hid; it isn't done in a corner. There's hundreds of thousands of people sitting there that watched that, when they saw that crippled, afflicted boy come there, the Holy Spirit tell him about his life and things and what took place there, and see 10,000 Moslems lay themselves on the ground flat, and accept Jesus Christ as personal Saviour.
We still got T. L. Osborns, and so forth, that still feed sheep food. I guess Brother Osborn hasn't been down amongst the Moslems yet. They claim they're so predominant. But we still have a God who can deliver the sheep from the lion, can deliver the sheep from the bear.

1 Samuel 17:36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.

Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

73 And it done me good to know that they'd have to write it and recognize it. They think they don't. They walk away and turn their back and say, "Oh, them days are past." Them Moslems say, "Ah, the whole Bible then is past. You're all wrong. You're worshipping a man. A man that died, and his name was Jesus, and he died long years ago, and there's no such a thing as him being resurrected."
But they couldn't say that at the Durban meeting. There He stood doing the same things that He did and proved to them. Now, even the denominations has to come back... The very person that wrote and told me that I'd have to with-trace my teaching on the Bible was the one had to write that in their paper. God will make them praise Him anyhow, regardless. That's right. He'll make them praise Him anyhow.

74 Got a little sick girl sitting here. That your child? What's her trouble, sister? Brain hemorrhage. Four years old. Is this the girl? There's only one thing, Mother, can save the girl, that's God. (Mother says, "She's a lot better than she was.") I'm so glad of that. Have you been down and prayed for her, Brother Neville? Since Brother Neville went down and prayed for her she's gotten better. Still have shepherds that know sheep food.

75 What's your trouble, sister dear, sitting in the chair there? Yours? Cancer. Well, if I just ask you something, maybe right here, how many in here have been healed of cancer, raise up your hand. Look here, sister.
God is the healer. We know that. If I told you that I could go down there and take that hemorrhage off of the girl and make her well, I'd tell you wrong, or I could take the cancer off the woman. But I know one thing: There was a bear, a cancer, a tumor, a blindness, and even death grabbed some of God's sheep one day. And I went forth with the power of God, and I slew him and brought that sheep back. That's right. We go forth today, not with any great something so-and-so; I go forth with a plain little slingshot of prayer. It'll bring her back. You believe that, don't you, sister? You believe, too, don't you, sister?

76 How many of you believe with your heart now? Now, you bow your heads while I go to pray. [Brother Branham leaves the platform and prays for the sick.] All right.
Dear Father, a beautiful young woman lays here that can never walk no more or get around, except You help her. The enemy has caught her; she's beyond the reach of any doctors. The enemy has jerked her so far out yonder in space till the doctor couldn't even do a thing. But she's not out of Your reach, Lord. She's right where You can put Your hand on her. On the basis of the Word of God I lay my hands upon the--the young woman and condemn this brain hemorrhage; in the Name Jesus Christ, call her back to a normal woman again. She'll live to the glory of God. May she be well, walk in and out of this church like others do after coming to know you. Give praise to God. So be it through Jesus Christ...

77 As the frosting of her hair, just a few more rounds and she would be in that land yonder where I saw... not old no more, but young, but her loved ones set here weeping, and they love her. A great enemy has grabbed her and jerked her out of the reach of the doctor, a fearful lion of cancer. God, I come after her. And I--and I come to bring her back. I slay the lion... in the Name of the unseen Christ to Who I'm an ambassador to. May it leave her, and may she be well and live many years yet to the honor and glory of God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Our heavenly Father, as just not in great armor, not with a polished spear, like You said... come forward here. But with a common little slingshot of faith I come for this soul and this body, that the enemy of cancer has grabbed her beyond the reach of the doctors, but I come forward this morning, Lord, getting her back to shady green pastures and still waters. In the Name of the triumphing Jesus to which I am His ambassador with unfailing faith I believe she shall be brought back by the power of this prayer. And may so be it, in the Name of Jesus...
I believe there is a baptismal service just now?
Would you raise your head just a moment? The pastor has just told me these people are very, very sick. They'll be all right. It's okay. God's promise never fails. We go after them.

78 They've got a baptismal service. There's some people that must go. We're going to have service again tonight. Is there anyone here that could not come tonight would want us to offer prayer for you now? that cannot be here tonight. Would you come right here then? You that cannot come tonight. I'll have more time for my prayer line tonight. They've got to baptize these people.
Now, if you'll just give us just a minute or two longer, then we'll have the service for the baptismal. I know you'll want to see it. And those who are wishing baptism this morning, well, you ... the ladies go over here to change their garments, and the men go over on this side. And then, while I'm praying for these sick people, then you may be making ready for the baptismal service. And those now that...

79 Now, tonight I'll try to run a little prayer line tonight. Right away, as soon as I come in. And we're going to start in the first book of Ephesians tonight. And we'll be very happy now, to have you in if you have no church to go to. But if you have your own pastor and church, then you attend your precious church where you support. If you that have to go and are going to leave at this time, God bless you. Be with us again when you can. We'll be happy to have you. Now, the rest of you while you bow your head a minute, we want to pray.
Father, I thank Thee today for the little shepherd's sling, the prayer that brought the lion to his knees, and the little lamb was jerked away from him and took back to its mama and daddy. I pray for our brother. I ask that You will bring him safely in too, Lord. May the blood pressure and troubles of his body cease. I go after him, Lord, bring him back. In the name of Jesus Christ, so be it. God bless you, brother.

80 Going down I see a little blind boy. One more thing I'd like to say. I was very sick, I was vomiting, and I thought (I don't want you to miss this if you can) I thought, "God, what would I give if I could hear somebody stop outside."
My wife would say, "Billy, there's an old gentleman here to see you." And here come in a little bald-headed fellow, with gray whiskers hanging around his face.
He'd walk in and say, "You're Brother Branham?"
I'd say, "Yes, sir, I am."
"My name is Simon." Put his hand over on me and look at me a minute, say, "You're a believer, Brother Branham."
"Yes."
"It'll be all right." Simon Peter of the Bible. How I would appreciate that! He wouldn't have to say much---just put his hand on me, it'd be all right.
And then what come to me: By God's help and by God's grace, there's tens of thousands of people believe the same thing if I come to them. And I thought, "Lord, let me get to every one I can, then. Let me just..." I thought if Simon would just ... Paul, some of them just come in, say, "Are you Brother Branham?"
"Yes."
Put their hands over on me and look at me and say, "All right, Brother Branham," just walk out. I'd get well. I'd be all right. Sure. I said, "Boy, my courage would pick up right then." I'd say, "I'm going to be all right. Yes, sir. There's people believe that same thing today. And that's what I'm coming down here to do: lay hands on you, and ask God.

81 I want to go to this little boy, sis, in just a minute, this little blind boy. How long has he been blind, sister? Ever since birth. Hi, little boy. Oh, you're not... Now, just a minute.
O gracious God, beyond the reach of doctors, at the birth of this little boy, being born blind, and he can't see, this beautiful, lovely, little boy... And the enemy, before the little fellow had a chance in life, jerked him beyond the reach of the doctors. But I'm coming right after him this morning, Lord. This simple little slingshot of prayer... let me bring him back, God. And I meet the enemy, the devil, in the Name of Jesus Christ, and I claim this boy for God. I claim his sight for God, giving him back this what Satan robbed him from. May he have it in the Name of Jesus Christ, it will be. Now, so be it.
Now, sister, dear, now don't you have one speck of doubt, for this little boy is going to be all right. I want you bring him back here at the church and show the people that he can see... give him his sight in the Name of Jesus Christ...

82 Yes... Lord Jesus... this little one that we have offered so much prayer for, but this morning I come again in the Name of Jesus Christ, packing this little slingshot that You gave me; You've helped me with this, Lord, by Your power to take the... out of the mouth of... out of the mouth of death itself, raised up the dead after they'd been pronounced dead, and laying stiff and cold. I come after this enemy, in the Name of Jesus Christ. So bring her back to good health again. Grant it; so be it done for the glory of God.
And you're to prayed for... You are a believer? Lord, I bring her in the reach of this little sling. In the Name of Jesus Christ may it leave her and never come back. Amen...
Well, that same little slingshot that went and got for that heart, and for your daughter, and... Dear heavenly Father, I come after the enemy, using this little sling that You give me, for You said if you get the people to believe and be sincere when you pray... go now, as I send it to her request. In the Name of Jesus Christ may it be so. Amen.

83 All right, sister. Now, we're... Nerves is beyond the reach of doctors. They could give you something to kind of quieten you, but it'd make you worse after... Now look, we're going out after it this morning. We're going out, bringing it back. [Gap in the audio]
Lord Jesus. [Gap in the audio] I... [Gap in the audio] five [Gap in the audio] little stones, f-a-i-t-h, in the slingshot of prayer, and I'm bringing back my sister from the clutches of that nervousness... doctors... I'm bringing her back to peace and shady green pastures and still waters; and I do this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen...
All right. It isn't muscular dystrophy. Father God, this little girl, we're so glad that it wasn't muscular dystrophy; but regardless of what it is, it's still in Your reach, Lord, and I come with a little sling of faith in this sling... And I press this stone with all the strength that I can throw it, in the Name of Jesus Christ may it hit the mark. May our little sister be well. I do this in the Name of Jesus Christ...

84 As this young mother and her little offspring, a little one that she wants to meet over yonder on the other side, in that glorious land that I just spoke of. And they... The mother won't live to raise the little fellow. And neither can the little fellow live long without Your help, but I'm coming with this sling, with all of the strength in that aim that I can take at the enemy. In the Name of Jesus Christ, I sling this at him. They shall be well for the glory of God, in the Name of Jesus. Amen...
Oh, well that's so nice. I'm just glad, for that ministry then was a great ministry pointing them to... She is going to be worse? Our heavenly Father, Satan has jerked this little mother beyond the reach of the doctors yonder. They can only sling a drug out that way, Lord, that'll only tear around and around and hardly make her know where she's at, and then when she gets through, she's worse. But I'm coming with this slingshot of faith with a stone directed with direct aim, to zero in on the target. In the Name of Jesus Christ, I take this nervousness from her for the glory of God.

85 Dear God, Brother George laying yonder dying not long ago, see what a faith did for him. Now he's got rheumatism, Lord. He realizes they could give him some cortisone or something that would be kinda ease the pain but it won't take the thing away; so we aim this prayer in the Name of Jesus Christ, may the rheumatism go. May he go home and be well. Thank you very much...
How do you do. Oh, my. Yes, ma'am. Did you hear it all? Just beyond the reach of mortal kin. You a believer in the Lord Jesus? I see a beautiful woman over there... You'll be young again forever. I know you want to live now to His glory. Going fast to the--the other... Your son... Can't you find him? Oh, he can't be... grief strickened, I see.
Sister dear, I want you to get... here. Is she here to... All right, you tell her. Well, she's going to tell you what happens just beyond your breath here that precious boy is waiting for you. You'll be young like him... just...
Dear heavenly Father, life's race has been run. There's not much more left, and her precious boy's just across the river. He can only look back... just... She's waiting for the boat, Lord, that'll take her through the falls, to that glorious Land. You bless her, Father... her heart. May that be a great reunion, just across the river.

1 I was just a little early tonight, and I heard that Brother Sullivan had taken up a love offering for me. Now, I sure do appreciate that with all my heart, friends. If you had not have done it, it would've been just the same, it doesn't matter. I've been in the ministry about thirty-one years and I've never took an offering for myself yet, or for anybody else. I never took one. And people has give me offerings. And what that offering goes for, it goes right into the Tabernacle Foundation, and from there it's spent for overseas trips and for the kingdom of God's sake. I'm on a salary. I get a hundred dollars a week. That's what I get, and I don't have any... (I thought someone out there, brother, might... I was trying to hold it up so the recorder... That's more bandage than the doctor's got in his office, isn't it? Thank you, brother. We just won't short anybody out there that's here).

2 So, therefore with the best of my ability, with all that I know how, I'll see that every penny of it goes to the kingdom of God, with all that I know how, because it's a portion of your living. I know there's no millionaires among us and you need every penny that you can get. (That thing's got a weak head, hasn't it? And I'll tell you, I'll just lay my Bible against it. How's that? That'll do for a little while, perhaps. I'll fix it for you, brethren. We got something here. That's it. How's that? A little bracer, sometimes we all need that---kind of get braced up, a shot in the arm, we call it.) So, I do appreciate it, and will do everything that I can to see that it goes for the kingdom of God.

3 Now... (Oh, my, here's some more bandage. Now, brother, we're really going to fix this guy right up, aren't we? Important fellow. [Someone says, "He must be one of the boys."] He must be, he surely must be. Oh, I was cutting somebody short, sure enough. I put the book over a microphone or two here. We're robbing one to pay the other. Thank you very kindly, brother. I'm sure ever who that's running to down there will appreciate that.)

4 Today has been a great day for me. We've had much, and I got a few announcements here that I want to make. The first thing is that you're all invited in the morning to the Christian Businessmen's Fellowship breakfast. We always have a great time at that meeting. That will be held at the Manchester Hotel, I think the ballroom. And the tickets is on sale. You can see Brother Carlson, or my field secretary Brother Mercier, or Brother Goad, right here. They have the tickets for the breakfast. And if you miss seeing them, come on down. There'll be somebody there to give you a ticket in the morning. What say? Brother Rockwell has them also. (Has anyone else that you know of?) That's it. But if you miss it, there'll be somebody there in the morning in the lobby to let you get a ticket. And the Lord willing, I'll be speaking in the morning for this fellowship.

5 I like the Christian Businessmen's Fellowship, because it stands for what I believe---a interdenominational fellowship. And they do a lot of sponsoring of my meetings around the world, because in that I get all the churches to sponsor, because their fellowship ... their men that's out of their churches, the businessmen that's in their churches, come into this organization. Then sometimes they have to receive me whether they like me or not. They just have to take me anyhow, because their brethren is in there.

6 But most always I thank the Lord that even in ministers and in churches who see different---some people who doesn't even believe in the Pentecostal experience ---will come right in and help sponsor the meeting anyhow.
I've been sponsored by Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterians, all different kinds. Down in Mexico, I think it was an entire Baptist sponsorship, down in Mexico City. And then a lot of the places is the Lutheran. In Sweden right now, I think it is, or Norway, the Lutheran churches wants to sponsor a complete, nationwide campaign. Down in Puerto Rico, one of Billy Graham's group that sponsored him, the one that was his interpreter, came to the meeting and the Lord did a great thing. Just there two nights, and now they got the entire association of ministerials all over the island ready for a full island meeting.

7 When I was leaving that morning, there was ... the fellow that was the head of that big airport out there run up and threw his arms around me, started weeping---a little sort of a man in stature. He said, "Brother Branham, when you were here about a year ago for a night or two," said, "I was sitting way back in the audience. And you called my name, and told me I'd had migraine headaches for many years and said, 'Thus saith the Lord, tonight they're over.'" Said, "I've never had one since." And he was the head of that airport, some great official out there. I wouldn't say the head of it---he was one of the main men out there.

8 In the interviews this morning, the Lord gave many visions. And I certainly had a group this morning. On ... mornings we use in interviews to catch the cases that cannot ... just emergencies and things like that, where they got to have something from the Lord, a word of the Lord. And so then the Lord has been awfully good to us in those things. And one man was telling me (I don't remember the case and wouldn't know it unless I get it back on the tape) somebody from down in the South, I believe Alabama somewhere, the accuracy of the Holy Spirit telling the lady who she was, what her name was, what she had done, how she had got hurt as a little girl. Told her the city she was from and all about it. And when it went to regard her name, it called her "Miss." And she was a middle-aged woman, but she's never been married. Just the accuracy of the Holy Spirit. Now it does that.

9 Then this morning in the interviews---I suppose they're here---it was a couple of missionaries that were somewhere in a meeting. I didn't get their name down here, but they were in the interview this morning. And said about ... some time ago they were in one of the meetings, and the lady was suffering tremendously with something, and her husband also. And said it told her who she was and what she was suffering with, told her husband what was wrong with him, and all about the things that they had done in life, and where their calling was; and they was going to minister to people that wore little caps on their head, which was Jewish, and they was going overseas, and everything ... would take place. And she said everything, just exactly the way it was, was right.
And said, then coming back she'd taken sick, and she said that the doctors wanted to operate on her for some kind of an attack in the gall ... or something, and they wanted to operate immediately. But she come back to this side (if I get this story right), and said she prayed, "O Lord, I'm going over..." She'd get one of the magazines where I was to be at. And she said, "Lord, last time I was up there I got card number 3. Please, Lord, let me have card number 3 again."

10 And said the Holy Spirit seemed to tell her... She was a Christian and I think formerly a Lutheran, and a nurse out of a hospital. And said the Lord told her, "You'll have card number 3."
Said that night when my son came to give out the cards... So that it'll be double when we're calling them meetings, that no one will know, Billy has to get up before the crowd, and take the cards, and mix them all up together, so that the people will know. Then another thing, no one knows where we're going to start the prayer line. I come, and wherever the Holy Spirit leads me, I start from there. So he said he got up and mixed up all the cards and came down.
She said, "I want one." He handed it to her and just passed on by. She looked at it. It was 98, I believe, or 97, I believe---yeah, 97, I think it was. And she said, "O Lord, You promised me number 3, and now You gave me 97 or something---97, 98---97, I think it was." Said, "You gave me 97 and," said, "now, You promised me number 3." And said she began weeping and she didn't know what to do. Said, "I'll never be called on 97." For the time she was in, I might have started from 1. Said that night coming to the platform, said I looked out over the audience real stern and said, 'I'm going to start tonight from one hundred and come backwards.'" Number 3. Is that lady in the building? Wayne. Oh, here she is right in front of me. Oh, Lord bless you, sister. The Holy Spirit's always right, isn't He? That's right. The Lord bless you. Well, that's fine. You see, when the Holy Spirit promises you anything, if it's the Holy Spirit, you'll get it, just as He said. No matter what takes place, you'll get it.

11 Now, to this convention, Brother Sullivan, Brother Boze, Brother Winston and all of the ministers, and all the people, I want to thank you for your fine cooperation. To me, one of the outstanding conventions I've ever preached at in all my life has been this one. I've had more freedom to speak at liberty without any binding. Just felt just exactly at home, like I was standing at the Tabernacle, in the pulpit in my own church. And I felt better in this convention than I have in any, as far as I can remember. It's been one that I'll never forget. The Lord bless you for your prayers and cooperation. And I certainly appreciate it. Looking forward to being with you again next year, if the Lord provides again. Wherever it will be held, I don't know. The Lord will provide that. And I want to say that I certainly appreciate this, and I appreciate this convention, because...
Now, I have been accused of being against denominational churches, but that is wrong. I am not against nothing but sin, see. I just ... I'm not against any denomination or any people, I'm just as much Methodist as I am Baptist, Pentecostal, anything else. I'm your brother. I just don't make any difference.

12 Now sometimes I rake hard on denomination. It's because of their selfish attitude, when they pull themselves up in a little shell, and say, "We got it. None of the rest of you can have it." You cannot organize Pentecost. And when we try to make an organization out of Pentecost, we displease God. We call ourself the "Pentecostal this" organization, the "Pentecostal that," but that's wrong. Pentecost is an experience, and it's no organization. But sometimes different groups, to make their groups big ... and it's just a worldly expression. But in every group that I've ever come into in my life, I've found genuine Holy Ghost-filled men and women. Yes sir, of all of them.

13 And may this convention ever hold its standard of independent, so that all the groups can come together---the free Pentecost, and the free Baptist, the Free Methodist, and the Oneness, Twoness, Threeness, and all the rest of them---riding on a one-hump camel, a two-hump camel or a three-hump camel. Whatever you want to ride on, come on.

14 You know, Jacob dug one well and the Philistines drove him away from it, and he called it, I believe, "Malice." (We'll say that. I don't remember just what it was.) He dug another well and the Philistines drove it away from ... drove him away from it, and he called it "Strife." And Jacob dug another well and he called it "There's Room For All." That's the well. That's the independence, where there's room for all, everybody, whosoever will, any church, any creed, any denomination, we're here to represent the Pentecostal blessing that comes to the Methodist, Baptist, Catholic, Jew, whatever you are. It comes to yellow, black, white, brown, all races, all creeds, all peoples, at any time that you're ready for it. May it always remain that way is my prayer.

Genesis 26:20 And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac's herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.

Genesis 26:21 And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.

Genesis 26:22 And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.

15 Now, don't forget, tonight ends the convention and the brethren will be going home, many of them, I suppose. Now, I did not know that I was going to be praying for the sick at night, so I thought I would hang over two more nights in order to pray for the sick that come to the convention. But I noticed on a little circular down there that I found sitting in a filling station window that said prayers for the sick each night. I found that when Brother Joseph and I yesterday was walking by, so then last night we started praying for the sick. I didn't know I was to pray for the sick. So then, if you're here and you're not in no hurry to get home, you're certainly welcome to stay with us for Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

16 We're going to close Sunday afternoon, because we do not want to hold the people from their churches on Sunday night.
To your denomination and to your own choice of church, that's your duty to stand at your post of duty. Exactly, for your pastor and uphold him as a man of God. If he doesn't see the light yet, don't fall out with him. Love him and pray for him. That's the thing to do to get him into it. That's right. With the church that doesn't believe in the Pentecostal blessing, well that doesn't hurt a thing. You go right on and keep ... you receive the Pentecostal blessing, and then tell your pastor about it, and tell him how sweet it is. And the first thing you know, he'll be like Brother Collins the other night, the Methodist preacher, when he got the Holy Ghost. He had to go get his brother and sister-in-law, and all of them. They got the Holy Ghost. So, that's just the way it goes, see.

17 We don't never want to take anybody away from a church. We don't want to say let all the one church join this other church. That's not it. Stay right where you're at. That's all right. As long as they'll receive you, and you got the blessing, you stay right where you are. But try to have fellowship with one another. That's what it is. It's a fellowship of brethren, brethren to be in fellowship. I believe everybody believes that, don't you? Sure. That's fine.

18 Now, I was going to announce what I was going to speak on tomorrow morning, but I better leave that alone, because I say I'm going to speak on something, then I go there and get something else, see. I just have... If I could preach like I do when I'm cutting my grass or going on a hunting trip somewhere... Get up in the mountains, and walk up top of the mountains, and stand up there and look out across, and feel that breeze high in the mountains, and hear the coyote holler (whew), my, if I could preach like I could right there... Sit down on that rock, get off that rock, and walk around the tree, and preach, and carry on, if I could preach like that up here, I'd be a pretty fair preacher, I believe.

19 If I get out in the yard cutting grass, and I just have to stop sometimes, stop my old mower and run into the garage and say, "Lord, help me. I don't want to act like that out there in the yard. People'd think I lost my mind." But then when I get up here, I forget all about it. What was I thinking about? You see? Then I just have to depend on Him. So that's the reason sometimes that I can't say what I'm going to speak on, but the Lord will help me do something anyhow.

20 Now, let us turn tonight for the text, if I should call it that, in I Samuel, the seventh chap... or, the eighth chapter, and begin with the fourth verse. I Samuel, the eighth chapter, and beginning with the fourth verse. Let us read:
Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,
And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.
But this displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord.
And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.

1 Samuel 8:4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,

1 Samuel 8:5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

1 Samuel 8:6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.

1 Samuel 8:7 And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

1 Samuel 8:8 According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.

21 If I was going to title this, for a few moments... And then we're going to take up our cards for prayer for the sick right where we left off last night. And then tomorrow night, tomorrow afternoon there will be prayer cards given out, another prayer line tomorrow night, and Sunday at two o'clock (a brother says, "Two-thirty.") Two-thirty. Prayer cards will be give out at two, then, Sunday afternoon for Sunday afternoon's service, having prayer for the sick.
I want to entitle this subject tonight "The Rejected King." And I wish we had chairs to accommodate or seat somehow the ones that are standing all around tonight of this building. But I will try to hurry, so that you won't have to stand too long, but if you'll just give me your undivided attention for a few moments.

22 In the day of Samuel the people were a great deal like they are in all days. They had come to a place that they wanted to be like the other people. And that is just simply a nature with people. People want to impersonate each other. If you'll go out and buy a certain kind of clothing or a certain automobile, paint your steps a certain color in your house, or on your steps, porch steps, watch the neighbor. They just can't stand it, they've got to be the same. You go to church and wear a certain kind of a hat that's a little different, next Sunday you'll have a lot of your sisters with that same kind of hat, if they can find it. Somehow another they just want to act like one another. And that's a good thing, if it's used right, if it is used in the right way.

23 Now, but these people in the days of Samuel, the prophet, they wanted to act like the Philistines and the Amalekites and the unbelieving, and because that they seen their people was a little more fancy. And they were a nation of called-out and chosen people, and they're not supposed to act like the rest of the people. God's people is never to act like the world, or look like the world, or be anything to do with the world. You are a separated people. The church, a called-out, a peculiar people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation---altogether different and set aside in all your actions and habits and ways from the things of the world. Now, may the Lord help us as we study.

1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

24 Now these people seen how the Philistines were doing, how the Amalekites and the different ones were acting. And they came to Samuel and said, "We want to be like them." And it's about the same today. You just let the world start a certain fashion or some fad, and you find all the people---even to many of the Christians---want to do that same thing. They want to act like it.
You let the boys start cutting their hair a certain way, and all the boys want to do it. And they got to a place now they let their hair grow out real big, and looks like a duck or something sitting on top of their head. And I tell you, I believe that if I was a woman, a girl, and a boyfriend of mine did like that, I'd sit him down and shave his hair off. It looks to me like that a woman would want a man. I tell you, maybe the woman is so masculine that she wants something feminish. But that certainly looks like a woman to me, to have all that big bush like a duck, or a crow or something, sitting on top of their head, the big long things sticking out in the back.
And I never seen such an outfit in my life. And I seen some preachers like that. What in the world is this thing coming to? After a while they'll have a beatnik pastor, if you don't watch out what they're doing. Well, that's the truth.

25 Oh, the church has to act just like the world. It must be... Now, that was rude, and I don't mean it that way, see. But I'm just trying to make a ... I'm trying to drive a nail down so tight it won't come out until it clinch on the other side. If it hurts, maybe I'll back up just a little bit. But it's got to be clinched to make it hold. Is that right, Brother Woods? He's a contractor. You got to make it hold by clinching it. And I think a man ought to be a man, and a woman ought to be a lady. And I think that a Christian ought to act like a Christian, and associate with Christians. And the church of the living God ought to be together with one heart and one accord, and have nothing to do with the world when it comes to their ways and habits.

26 But we find it today just like it was then.
They'd come to Samuel, and they said, "Now you're getting old, your hair's getting gray. And we just don't know how much longer you're going to stay around. And now we want you to make us a king just like the Philistines has got, like all the rest of the world has got. Make us just like them." And it displeased this holy prophet of God. Any prophet, if he is a prophet, he's for holiness and righteousness and the things of God. He can't stand still---he's got to bring it out. Sometimes it cost his life, but he'll bring it anyhow, because God is in the person. And the pastor or prophet that's really for God, if it hurts, it just... He don't mean to hurt the people. He loves the people, but he's trying to save them, see.
And, why, this kind of upset the good old prophet, that they thought he was too old to go on. We find out he lived for many, many years later. But he was a servant of the Lord. And in doing that, they rejected their real king which was God, and that displeased the prophet. And he didn't want them to do that.

1 Samuel 8:6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.

1 Samuel 8:7 And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

27 Now, Samuel, in our message, represents the Holy Spirit. Now, Samuel was the mouthpiece of God, and today the Holy Spirit is the mouthpiece of God. And today, instead of having all of our different fandangos in church, God wants us to let Him rule---not popes, bishops, and general overseers, and doctrines, and denominations, and everything. He sent the Holy Spirit to rule the church. But we, like the people of old, we say, "Well, let us be like the rest of them. They've got a great organization. Let's us build up our group, because we believe this."
Now, the Holy Spirit never would have stood still for that. No, sir. The Holy Spirit wants us to have no fences, no boundary lines. He wants us to be one in Him. We're children, brothers. God doesn't separate His children, said, "I'll give this one cornbread and beans, and this one ice cream and pie." He doesn't do that---let this one starve to death, and the other thing. He feeds them all at the same table. And the Holy Spirit should lead the church.

1 Samuel 8:5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

28 But they didn't want it that way. They wanted a king. They wanted to be like the rest of the world.
And when the Pentecostal church ... the Holy Spirit first fell about fifty-something years ago, if they would have just let it alone and let God add to the church daily such as would be saved, it would've been like it was in the apostolic age. But we had to draw fences. We had to be like the rest of them. We had to... If the Methodist is a denomination, we must be. And here comes somebody along, said, "Jesus is coming on a white cloud."
"No, He's coming on a white horse."
"All right, we'll just separate. I'll get me a group and you get you a group." There you are. What difference does it make? He's coming anyhow. It don't matter how He's coming. The thing of it is, are you ready to go with Him when He comes? That's the main thing. Doesn't matter how He comes, what form He comes in, let's just be ready to go. But they'll split hairs on little bitty things and form another organization. And that's just the way the world did it.

Acts 2:47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

29 And good old Samuel, he took it to the Lord, and he said, "Lord, what can I do about these matters? The people are determined that they must have it just that way, and we don't know just what to do about this."
And the Lord said, "Go right ahead and give them their king, because they're not rejecting you; they're rejecting me to be their judge."
See, people don't want the Holy Spirit to judge them. No, no, you don't want that. They want some creed to judge them, but ... they want some church to judge them, but they don't want the Holy Spirit.

1 Samuel 8:7 And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

30 He said, "Go ahead and make them a king."
So, they searched out through the country and down in the tribe of Benjamin. They found a man by the name of Kish, who had a son named Saul, and they chose him. Great big, handsome-looking, intellectual giant of a man, head and shoulders above any other man; way up high, intellectual, educated, smart, shrewd, nice looking. Oh, that was just exactly what they wanted: something they could show off with. That's just about the way the churches is getting. You want some great big organization, some great big fine church, bigger than the little mission down yonder. That's just the way it goes. And many times they leave the little mission where the Spirit is leading, to go join to that, because you say, "I belong to the First church."
The same old devil, just exactly, the same misleading of the people. The biggest church, something to show off, something big, oh, people like to say that. They like to get to a place where they got the finest pastor. Why, they got a pastor that's got four degrees out of Princeton, or some great university. He's so smart and everything like that. He might have all those degrees, but in God's sight he might not even be enough to make a hog caller. That's exactly right, with all those.
God chooses men, and He is our king. God, the Holy Spirit, was sent to govern the Pentecostal believers, the Holy Spirit believers. The King God, was sent to do that.

1 Samuel 8:7 And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

1 Samuel 9:1 Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty man of power.

1 Samuel 9:2 And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.

31 Now, they chose him, and he was a great man, fine fellow. Just exactly what they wanted, that was the guy. Now, before they anointed him king, they made him chief captain, just to give him a try-out. He was a failure to start with, to begin with. It wasn't in God's program. But however, when they chose him, finally was going to make him king, Samuel told them, he said, "Now, go on. First, if you choose to have a king and reject God, you know what's going to take place?" Here he says what's going to take place: "He'll call all your sons and daughters to be his servants. You'll pay a tenth of all you got to feed his army. And your fine vineyards and all your fine cattle will be taken over, and everything, and that's the way it'll be. He'll have to have armour bearers. He'll have to have soldiers. Your daughters will be cooks and confectioneries to feed the soldiers, and that's the way it'll be."
"Oh, that's all right, but we want him anyhow. We want him anyhow."

1 Samuel 8:11 And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots.

1 Samuel 8:12 And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots.

1 Samuel 8:13 And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.

1 Samuel 8:14 And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants.

1 Samuel 8:15 And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.

1 Samuel 8:19 Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;

32 Then he called them to a place, before anointing Saul king, he said, "I want to ask you something." In other words, let me put it like this: "Have not I been with you since a child as a prophet? Have I ever took any of your money? Have I ever begged you for anything?"
"No."
"Have I ever spoke to you in the name of the Lord but what it come to pass?"
"No, that's right, Samuel. All that you have done has been of the Lord."
"Well, then, why don't you let God be your king?"
"Oh, we know that you're the prophet. We know that you're the servant of God. We know that you speak the truth, and we know that you're right. And you've been the right kind of a judge and everything over us, through the Holy Spirit. But still we want the king."

1 Samuel 8:4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,

1 Samuel 8:19 Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;

1 Samuel 12:3 Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.

1 Samuel 12:4 And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man's hand.

1 Samuel 12:12 And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when the LORD your God was your king.

33 Oh, brother. When people get their heads set on something, they just go on anyhow. There's just hardly anything you can do. They just got their mind made up, they're going to do it whether it's right or wrong. Why, you can stand and preach to people that it's wrong for their women to dress immoral, for men to go and women to go to dances, for this rock and roll stuff, they'll take right out of there like a hog to its wallow and a dog to its vomit. That's exactly right. Pay no more attention to it than nothing in the world, because they are determined they're going to do it anyhow. They say they want it anyhow.

2 Peter 2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

34 All right.
So, after all the warnings had been given, then finally they wanted a king anyhow. So Saul was anointed king. The first thing taken place, the enemy slipped in on one side and put the right eye out of a lot of the people of God. You know the story. It's found here in Samuel 8, 9, and 10. Put their right eye out. That's just what the enemy wants to do. That's what the enemy is trying to do tonight, put the right eye of God's people out. You notice it was the right eye, the one that's spiritual.
If he can put the spiritual sight out of your eye, where you see the natural things and not the spiritual things, he's got you whipped right there. As long as you can have churches and big places and fine intellectual-dressed people and so forth, as long as your eye looks like that and don't see the Spirit side, the enemy's got you under his control, because you don't know where you're going. Amen.

35 Brother, listen! What we need today is an old-time, backwoods, sin-killing revival. The Bible, Holy Ghost, back into the church again with the power of God over the audience and the people filled with the Holy Spirit---that's what we need today. And if that would take place, every wall of denominational difference would be broke down. The Oneness, Twoness, Threeness, Church of God, Pilgrim Holiness, Nazarenes, all of them together would be shouting and eating off the same apple. Why, they would be so brotherly and sisterly, there would be not even one thought of it. But see, we want to pattern after something of the world.

36 That same thing got into our nation. Our nation used to be governed by real true politics. Christians would go together and pray and come out anointed, try to govern our nation. Now it's just as honeycombed as it can be with everything. Crooked! They tell me that communists is all over the country, free thinkers, and all them kind of stuff of organizations rising up. And it's just in such a state there's no stop to it. And it only shows one thing: that the true king, the Son of God, is coming to take over and reign, just as certain as we're in this convention tonight.

37 Oh, if people could only remember, no matter how long you stay here on earth, still you've got to meet God. You take and make God your king, your supreme Lord. Many people likes to receive Jesus as Saviour. Oh, yes. "I don't want to go to hell, so I'll take Him as my Saviour," but not your Lord. When He's Lord, He's got rulership. He comes right in and governs you and controls you. But you say, "Lord, You can be my Saviour, but don't go to meddling in my private business. Now, don't get in all these things." You don't want your private life, you don't want to surrender it all to God. And that's true, friends. And whatever you do, when you leave this convention, you leave this meeting, you go home with one determination: that you're going to seek God day and night and live in His presence, and get away from the things of the world.

38 Oh, yes, they wanted this king. And when they got the king, then the enemy begin to put the eyes of the people out. And then they couldn't see where they were going. That's the first thing the devil does when he can get a servant of God: he blinds him to the fact that he's lost. That's the first thing the enemy done when they got Samson, another judge. They put his eyes out where he couldn't see where he was going. As soon as the enemy of the Philistines come in upon Israel, they put their right eye out, so they couldn't see good where they were going.
When the enemy comes into a church, he puts their eyes out to the real facts that the Holy Spirit is the one who rules and governs the church. All discipline is brought by the Holy Spirit. Amen. Oh, I wish I could say the words that would make it go home to the right place, see, that it never would leave, clinch in there. God gave the Holy Spirit to rule and govern the church. The Holy Spirit.

Judges 16:21 But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.

39 Now, when this taken place, they put their right eye out.
Did you notice that cunning little thing that Saul done? Oh, he was a slick article, because... What did he do? He sent out all around over the country pieces of ox that he had killed, and said, "Let all the people follow me and Samuel. [Oh, my.] Me and Samuel." See, he put Samuel, used Samuel's good reputation, to deceive the people. And many times today, and our leaders does the same thing, they put it in our churches. They say, "Why, So-and-So, our founder, he believed, he did this." Yes, he was a good man. But, brother, something's happened since then. That's right. What happened?
You Methodists that used to lay under the power of God all night long, when Asbury and John and Charles was here in the United States... They were called Holy Rollers and put out of the real churches, the big churches, laid out there in the school houses, and the people... They preached under the power of God until the people would fall out in the floor, and they'd throw water in their face and fan them, back and forth. That's... I've seen them do it.

40 John Wesley, preaching divine healing... One of his little books, a man from the Anglican church turned a fox and the fox hounds loose amongst his congregation. And John pointed his finger in that man's face and said, "The sun will not set on your head three times till you'll call for me to pray for you." That evening the man died with cramps in his stomach, calling for John to come pray for him. And today you talk about a healing service amongst the Methodist people...
Some Methodist man was writing a thesis on a book right here some time ago about divine healing. He said, "There's only one fault the Methodists can find with you, Brother Branham."
I said, "What's that?"
He said, "One thing, that all that come to your meeting nearly is Pentecostal."
I said, "All right, we'll just change it. You Methodists sponsor me, and I'll come to you." I said, "Will you start it in your city?"
"Well," he said, "of course, I..."
I said, "That's what I thought," see. Just exactly.

41 God will send His message to somewhere. "It will not return to Me void, it'll accomplish that which I have purposed." God is able of these stones to rise children to Abraham. But they refer back to some great fellow---Moody, or Wesley, or some great person like that---where they sprung up from.
Now, that's the same trick that Saul done. "Who will not follow Samuel and I? Who will not follow Samuel and I, let it be." Well, that's just a smooth trick they try to pull.

1 Samuel 11:7 And he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.

Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Matthew 3:9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

Luke 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

42 But Samuel still ... he'd told the people not to do this. But they did it anyhow, because they wanted to do it. They said they would do it anyhow. And I was just looking here on the Scripture where it said here that Samuel, when he almost persuaded the people that they were doing what was wrong and then they went ahead and wanted to do it.
Then when they got ... this thing taken place, then Saul won this victory. And he sent out and told all the Hebrews what they should look for, what the Hebrews had done. And it really wasn't Saul that won the battle; it was his son Jonathan that won the battle.

43 Then we find again that when this man Saul, the first thing you know he got great then, stuck out his chest. Certainly. "We built this big thing. We done this." And when he done it, then he got to a place he didn't want Samuel's advice anymore. He done it the way he wanted to do it.
And that's what's happened today. The people has got to a place that they don't want to do it the way that God wants to do it. They want to do it the way they want to do it. That's what's the matter today. God wants divine healing among His people. The big, high fellow says, "Now, wait a minute, the days of miracles is past."

44 Now, what caused Saul to do that? When he got to a place that he took over the leading of the people, instead of letting the Holy Spirit... Now, Samuel told him, he said, "Now, if you'll go ahead and have your king, and you'll all live right and keep God's commandments and do what the Lord says and follow the Spirit, Saul will be able to preach us some mighty good messages." And he did. They had no right to disbelieve Samuel, because Samuel always prophesied the truth to them. He told them what was the truth. But he said, "Now, if you'll just let ... Saul, and all of you follow the leadings of the Spirit, keep the commandments of the Lord, everything will be all right."

45 If that taken place tonight in every church in the United States, there would be a revival start in this nation. I tell you, whiskey joints would be broke up. It would be one of the most grandest things that this nation has ever known, if every preacher of all denominations would just follow the leading of the Holy Spirit instead of some creed of their denomination, what some bishop said, or somebody else said, or somebody else said. What somebody else said has nothing to do with it. God sent the Holy Spirit, and He's our guide. He's our leader.
But when they even see the Holy Spirit moving they get scared of it. They don't know what it is. It's a stranger to them, because they're not taught in that line. They're taught just upon a certain thing that the church believes, and they go on right like that, and go through life calling themselves Christians, and go on with the things of the world. And then when they come to die, they say, "Why, my faith saves me."

46 I said to a man some time ago, I said, "Sir, didn't the Lord ever condemn you for that smoking?"
"Oh," he said, "no."
And I said, "I have seen you drink myself."
He said, "But looky here, preacher, I want to tell you something." (I was visiting another man in the room.) He said, "My faith saves me."
I said, "But, mister, let me tell you something now, faith without works is dead." And I said, "The Holy Spirit don't live a life like that." And I said, "You may be disappointed." I said, "Now, the faith's all right; but if the works don't follow the faith, then the faith's no good.

47 And when you die, remember, it doesn't change your spirit; it only changes your dwelling place. And whatever type of spirit you got in you, that's the place it will go to. And sin can never enter heaven. So, if you..."
You say, "Well, I confess mine every night. We got a prayer book, and when we go to church, we confess all of our sins." And turn right back around and do them again? Turn right back the next day, "God, forgive me for drinking, forgive me for committing adultery, forgive me for lying, forgive me for stealing." Turn right back and do the same thing. "Forgive me for getting drunk last week. I didn't mean to drink that much." Turn right back around, drink it again. Well, that's not ... that shows that something hasn't changed inside. You're trying to paint the outside, kind of whitewash it. But what it needs to be done is put in the blood of Jesus Christ and washed white instead of whitewashed. That's what the world needs today.

48 But then we find out then, that because that Saul took upon himself... Samuel was a little late one day to offer the burnt offerings, which was only legal for him to do under the inspiration of God. And Saul said, "Why do we have to wait on him?" He went and offered it hisself. He started leading the people himself, instead of letting God lead the people. There's where he made his mistake. That's where every church that's ever been organized yet made their fatal mistake. I've never seen an organization---I've took history, I've read all the way from the pre-Nicene fathers and Josephus and all the early historians---and I've never seen one time where a church ever come into a great spiritual revival and fell and got away from it, that ever rose again. I want you to show me where it was at. If they won't follow the light, God will lay it right up on the shelf and let somebody... "God's able of these stones to rise children unto Abraham."

1 Samuel 13:8 And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.

1 Samuel 13:9 And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.

49 Luther was the light of his day. But they got a group in there in that Lutheran church and twisted the scriptures around to make it fit their own theology, and the first thing you know, the Lutheran church was on the shelf, the revival was over.
God raised up the Methodists. The Methodists come out with sanctification, had a great revival, world-sweeping, one of the greatest the world's ever had, in the days of John Wesley. And a great revival swept the land. By the time John and Charles and Asbury and all those died off, we got a new group in there begin to think a lot about, "Well, we oughtn't to do this, a blood religion and all this kind of stuff." And the first thing you know, they begin to bring in all kinds of creeds and things. And now look where it's at, laying on the shelf. Oh, yes.
And the Pentecostal has done the very same thing that they did, just exactly. Going the way of all flesh.

50 Yes, you want to be like the world. Don't be like the world. We are different! Servants of God are different. They're born again, they're new creatures in Christ. You have no right to take the things of the world and mix it with Christianity. The Christian road's not made up of church-made theology. The Christian road's made up of the baptism of the Holy Ghost and nothing less than that. And a life to follow that baptism of the Holy Ghost makes you live right, do right, act right, talk right, live right. That is true.

51 But then when Saul wouldn't wait on the Lord no more, Samuel turned right away from him. Remember, at the first time---not the second time---but the first time that Saul took upon himself to take over the service of the Lord, Samuel turned his back on him and walked away from him. And the first time that the church lets their leaders take over to lead the people, the Holy Spirit gets right away from them. And the very first time that you go being led by a man instead of God, the Holy Spirit will get away from you, too. Let the Holy Spirit lead. That's what we need, is leadership! And God gave us a leader, and we don't hear it.

52 Here not long ago I was reading in a ... Brother Gene brought it to me, I believe, in one of the magazines, about geese leaving Canada. And they have a leader. And if this leader isn't a real good leader, they haven't picked a good one, he'll take them anywhere. Take them over the mountain way, and they'll all die. Here some time ago a bunch flew ... an old gander that didn't know where he was going, didn't know his directions, his instinct wasn't just right, he flew a bunch of geese all the way to England. They've never been able to come back. Their nature is to migrate every year. And they just get together and squawk and holler and carry on over there in England, and they don't know how to get back home.

53 Puts me in mind of some of these cold formal boards that we got today, get so far away from God you don't know how to get back. You'll never come back by creeds! You've got to have inspiration to lead you, brother, and that inspiration comes by the Holy Ghost! Yes, led of the Spirit. Sons and daughters of God are led by the Spirit of God. They love the Spirit. They don't try to say, "Now, wait a minute. In my church, they don't say 'amen.' My church, they never raise their hands. They're very quiet. Why, we'd give our pastor chills and fever if somebody hollered 'amen.'"
Well, you ought to chill him up once in a while then, just find out what would take place. That's right.

Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

54 What we need today is a good old heart-felt religion. Let me tell you something. If a baby is born and that baby don't cry, it don't whine, it don't open its little mouth and say a thing, nothing happens, what's the matter with that baby? He's born dead. I think we've got too many still births today in the church.
Fellow come up and say, "Do you believe God the Father Almighty, creator in heavens and earth, Jesus Christ his Son?"
"Yes, I do."
"Will you promise to do so-and-so for this church?"
"Yes."
Take his little salt shaker and a few little drops of water, give him the right hand of fellowship, put him in the church. That's still-born babies. Yeah. That's right. What do you ... happen to a baby when he's born, if he don't cry as soon as he drops into the earth? What's the first thing you do to him? Is pick him up, turn him over your arm, and give him a little ... what is you call it? Paddling, that's right. Give him a few raps like that [smack] and the first thing you know, "Whaaaa," out he'll go, and you got a baby living.

55 And that's what it needs today in the church.
Is not somebody say, "Now, I know it might not be all right to do that." Little sissified thing. You need a man behind the pulpit that'll tell you, that'll tear you to pieces till you'll get to squalling out once in a while, and let God come in, and let something take place. Then you're born. Not somebody to baby you around in your sins, and say, "Oh, well, our forefathers believed that."
Why, our forefathers, our Bible, said it's right. That's what's right, is our Bible. And the same Holy Ghost that fell on the day of Pentecost, which we all know that that was the birth of the new church, if that same Holy Spirit don't bring the same experience to you, then you got a different Holy Spirit than what that was. That's exactly right. If it don't make you live a sacrificial life, and a life full of joy and pleasure, and the baptism of the Spirit leading you into signs and wonders and miracles and things, there's something happened. Jesus said, "These signs shall follow them that believe."

Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

56 Look how they perverted it today when men leads. "Here's a good church member. Oh, I know he does this. Oh, I know he does that. But he's a deacon in the church, and he does this and that and the other. But I tell you, he's certainly ... when we come time for we ... us to have our missionary program, never fails to put in a five hundred dollar check. And if we got a repair to do, oh, he's a fine fellow." Then stand there with your collar turned around, and preach his funeral some day over a half-mast flag, say he's gone to heaven. Ain't that the sinful thing?
Let me tell you something. What we need today is new birth, new life, new creatures in Christ Jesus! What a difference

57 A man said not long ago, a preacher told me, that he had to take a member in his church secretly. Said, "He's a good man," but said, "he just couldn't stand out before that audience and be brought into church." Said, "I had to take him into the prayer room in the back and take him into the church secretly." Said, "What do you think of that, Billy?"
I said, "I'd have turned him right straight towards the altar and kicked him just as hard as I could." That's the way I'd've took him in. That's right.

58 I was going down to the river here some time ago to baptize a woman, and there was a whole group going along with me. And so the woman going along there, she said, "Brother Branham."
I said, "Yes."
She said, "Well, I finally decided for you to go down and dunk me."
Said, "What's that?"
She said, "You're going to fix me up this afternoon and dunk me, aren't you?"
I said, "No, ma'am. Before I do that," I said, "you've got to get your heart right with God. I wouldn't baptize you on no conditions. You're still alive in the world yet."
You've got to be dead. We only bury dead people, those who are dead in Christ and ready to rise to new life again. And the person make a remark like that against baptism isn't a fit candidate for water baptism. That's right.

Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

59 Well, there's where we go.
We find out the Spirit... Saul said, "I'll do it myself. I know how to do it. I know as much about it as that old fogey Samuel."
And Samuel had proved that he was a servant of God. He proved that the Holy Spirit was with him, for he said, "I'll take you to record this day. Have I ever spoke to you anything in the name of the Lord but what come to pass? Have I ever come and begged and bummed money from you, and all these great things?"
"No," they said, "you haven't done that, but still we want to have it the way we want it," see. And that's then. You see what they were getting then.

1 Samuel 12:3 Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.

1 Samuel 12:4 And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man's hand.

1 Samuel 13:9 And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.

60 Now, we find out then when a man rejects the leading of the Holy Spirit... You know what God did for Saul? He give him a evil spirit to lead him. Now, how about that? He give him a evil spirit. God gave him a evil spirit to lead him. So, when a man rejects the leading of the Holy Spirit, or any person rejects the leading of the Holy Spirit, you've got a devil on you to lead you. That's exactly the Bible. O God, I wish we could have a revival. I wish there could come a time that when the Holy Spirit could really get into the hearts of the American people again, that they would see it's Him. They want to look, say, "Well, now look, I can't cooperate in this meeting, because my church don't..."
What difference does that make? What's that got to do with it?
"Well, I tell you, they believe in this and we don't believe that."
As long as they're preaching the Bible and the whole Bible and the full gospel and nothing but the truth, listen to it. Long as they're led by the Spirit, believe in it. And God will make Hisself known. If a man is led by the Spirit of God, God'll make Hisself known to that person. Yes, sir. God promised to. So, in doing that we know then that the Holy Spirit leads the people, and God takes care of it. Amen. Do you believe that with all your heart? [Congregation says amen.] Certainly we do. All right.

1 Samuel 16:14 But the spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

61 Then I'd like to say another thing, that evil spirit begin to lead Saul, and it led him. And today when the Holy Spirit's rejected, it wants ... what will it do? You'll get an evil spirit to lead you. Now, listen. I don't want to hurt you, but I want you to get this, see. Just as it was in them days, so is it today. They don't want the Holy Spirit to lead them so they get a evil spirit. What takes place with the evil spirit? The evil spirit wants to lead them then. And now watch.
They don't want ... they didn't want God to be their judge. And people today don't want the Holy Spirit to judge them. That's the reason they turned Samuel down, because his judgment was of God. It was scriptural and they didn't want to be led by the Spirit. And they turned it down for an ecclesiastical man. And what did they get? A evil spirit to lead them.

1 Samuel 8:5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

62 Now, the people today don't want to be led by the Holy Spirit. They don't want the Holy Spirit to judge them. Now, that's true, friends. They don't want the Holy Spirit to judge you.
Then people said to me, a woman said to me, not long ago... I was preaching real hard, and I was bawling the sisters out for cutting their hair, and telling them that the Bible said that she was a prostitute if she did so. She was unfair to her husband, and he had a right to put her away. Just exactly what the Scripture says. Any woman that'll cut her hair off of her head, she dishonors her husband, the Bible said, which is her head. And you can preach to them... That lady met me outside and she said, "Let me tell you something right now, preacher, you're sure going to ruin your ministry."
I said, "Any ministry that the Word of God will ruin, ought to be ruined." That's exactly right.
She said, "Well," she said, "everybody'll walk away and leave you."
I said, "As long as He stays with me, that's the main thing," see. Let Him stay.

1 Corinthians 11:5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.

63 And sure, they don't want the people ... you don't ... because they want to be like the world. They don't want ... women don't want to dress like the people of God, decent, moral.
Why, here a few weeks ago, I went to a Pentecostal meeting. Now you Baptists get ready to shout, and Presbyterians. I went to one of the leading Pentecostal churches of the United States. And my associate and I was sitting there. I was going to have a Sunday morning service. And when... They knowed that I'm always against that kind of stuff. And then when they let Sunday School out, and I was sitting out there in the parking lot, here come the Sunday School teachers. Now, that ain't Methodists; that's Pentecostal. Real short bobbed hair, and make up all over their face, looked like they had been eating red beefsteak and got it all over their finger nails, and all out like that, all that paint and manicure on them, walking out there. And here come men my age with that brick top hair cut, and duck-tailed in the back like that. Brother, if I had a congregation like that, I'd sure tear them to pieces, brother. It sure would be. Yes, sir.

64 Oh, they wasn't going to stay and listen at a holy-roller preach. And then claim to be Pentecost!
I got up there, and the Sunday School teacher come out, said, "Good morning, Reverend Branham." And all of that red stuff on the face and this black pencil over their eyes and all the ... and dress so sexy-like.
And they say, "Well, now, wait a minute, Brother Branham. That's the only kind of clothes you can buy." They still sell goods and sewing machines, so there's not a bit of excuse for you. That's right. If you're led by the Holy Spirit, straighten up.
They don't want the Holy Spirit to judge them. They don't want ... there's no excuses. God won't listen to your excuses. He wouldn't listen to Saul's, and He won't listen to you. You've got to compare with what the Bible said.

65 I think any woman ought to be clean. She ought to look her best. Any man ought to, too. Look pretty and clean, but be decent. You know if you dress yourself, just them old clothes that people wear, them old shorts and...
Woman said to me some time ago, said, "Brother Branham, I don't wear them shorts," said, "I wear slacks."
I said, "That's worse." Worse.
You know what God said? It's an abomination in the sight of God for a woman to put on a garment that pertains to a man. And God is God and never changes. He's the infinite God. If it once made a sickening stinking smell before Him, it still makes a sick and stinking smell to see a woman put on a garment pertains to a man. He made men men, and women... [break in tape] ... if He doesn't preach it that way. That's what the Bible said. That's exactly right. And, oh, they don't want that.

Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

66 One lady said to me said, "Well, do you think it's wrong for a woman to wear some ... this make up?"
I said, "Yes, sir, I do." I said, "God, if He'd wanted you to look like you was a barn, He'd have made you a barn," I said, "all painted up like that."
If He wanted you to smoke, He'd've put a smoke stack on top of you and some flues, so that you could have breathed it out. But He give you lungs to breathe good fresh air. That's what He did it for.

67 But they ... oh, no, but they don't want nobody, they don't want the Holy Spirit to judge them. Now, if you get the Holy Ghost and can still live that way---you come to me and tell me you got the Holy Ghost and living like that---I can't be your judge, but according to the Word you've missed the line somewhere, brother. That's exactly what the Spirit says, see. That's right. We need back holiness again, brother. We need to come back to God. Yes, they reject it. Certainly they do. They don't want to know how that ... they don't want to come under the jurisdiction of the Holy Spirit. They don't want the Spirit to guide them.

68 Let me tell you something, ladies. I'm not making fun of you. This is no place for that. This is the place for judgment goes forth, and judgment has to go right, and judgment's by the Word of God. Looky. There was only one woman in the entire Bible that ever painted her face. That's right. One woman. And she never painted her face to meet God. She painted her face to meet a man, to try to vamp him. That's right. Jehu, Jezebel. You know what God did for her? He fed her to the dogs. That's right. So, when you see a woman wearing make-up, you say, "That's Miss Dog Meat." That's exactly what it is before God. He fed her to the dogs. So that's all she stood for. He fed her to the dogs. How many knows that's the truth? Say, "Amen." That's exactly right.

69 So you see how those heathen traits get into the church? It's because some lukewarm son of Kish stands behind the pulpit and is afraid of his meal ticket to preach the truth. Brother, let me tell you, we need men behind the pulpit, and not a bunch of theological sissies that's afraid of something to say to the people. We need men of courage, good men filled with the Holy Ghost, that stands there, that will not preach sissified stuff and creeds and denominations, but will preach the gospel and shuck the hide off of them. That's exactly right. Right.

70 Your little old kids, say now, "Junior, honey, don't you do that." Get you a stick and skin him. That's what you need. Look what you raised up out of that "Junior, honey."
Little Martha, you know, stomp her feet and tell her mammy, "You go shut up, I ain't going to do that." Oh, boy. Good thing they didn't have my daddy. That's right. Yes, sir. All this stuff, see what you got? A bunch of juvenile idiots, just exactly what you got. Insane, just exactly. The insane asylums filling up with them. Beatniks, that's what caused. "Junior, dear." The Bible said if you spare the rod, you spoil your son. That's exactly right. And God knows what's truth and what's best.
Samuel tried to tell Saul that. God knows what was best. But Saul said, "Well, the people want me." That's it. Long as he gets somebody to follow him, that's all he wanted. He used Samuel's name to get somebody to follow him. That's all he wanted.

Proverbs 13:24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

71 No, they don't want that real true gospel. They don't want that real truth. Don't want the Holy Spirit to guide them. They'd rather have the intellectual pastor, see. Now here's the kind of man they want: somebody ... they don't want ... they want somebody that'll not tell them "It's wrong to do this, and wrong to do that, and quit doing this and quit doing that. No. They don't want that. But they want a man that's got a theological seminary experience, that they can say he's got several degrees, and he stands up very nicely, and he dresses very nattily (which is perfectly all right).
But when he gets there, he kind of does their own interpretation of the Bible. Not according to the Bible, but according to some theological seminary's experience, instead of a baptism of the Holy Ghost down in him to make him shuck the hide off. That's exactly right.

Mark 16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

72 Tell me a prophet in the Bible that was a true prophet that didn't shuck the hide off. Tell me whenever it come to pass. And they didn't want to believe them then, but God give them signs and wonders to follow them, to make the people ... to vindicate that their ministry was right. It's always been that way.
The Holy Spirit today comes right down in the church and said, "These signs shall follow them that believe; In my name they shall cast out devils; speak with new tongues; take up serpents or drink deadly things; lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." When the day of Pentecost was fully come, they was all in one place and one accord. Suddenly there came a sound from heaven like a rushing mighty wind, it filled all the house where they were sitting. Cloven tongues sat upon them like a fire. They was all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Out into the streets they went, screaming, and dancing, and acting like drunk people.
And remember, you Catholic people, the blessed virgin Mary was among them. And if she couldn't go to heaven without getting that kind of an experience, how are you going to make it? Think of that. Yes, sir. There she was all full of the Holy Spirit like they were drunk, men and women all together. Anything short of that, you're short of Pentecost.

Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

Acts 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

Acts 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

73 Now what do they do today? Take you, bring some old wore-out letter from four or five different churches that's had it, and place it down there, set you in a church, and call you a member. There's Saul. That's exactly the way he did it.
But Samuel wanted to be led of God. These people go to church on Sunday morning, a pastor to interpret the Word. They go right back out there and do what they want to through the week. He tells them ... they go home after he's give the interpretation of a few things of the church, and they say a few creeds. They go home, kind of half-satisfied, consoling themselves. "All my religion is done. It's all right till next week, I'll go down again." Take the communion on Sunday morning, some bread and grape juice, and so forth, and whatever they do, and let it go like that. Oh, brother!

74 But now what did Saul do? He certainly made a great army. He certainly did. He brought Israel to a great army. He made them all with fine polished spears. He trained them with them spears to fight just like real gallant men. He made them all big shields and everything. They were real polished and trained, all to the very minute. Well, they were getting along fine. The rest of the nations looked out, said, "You know, Israel's coming along pretty good."
But one day, one day (God don't let it go too long), until one day there came a challenger by the name of Goliath, folded his arms. And Israel shook till their shoes were trembling on the ground. That old head-and-shoulders above all the rest of them shook with them, too. There he stood, he never seen such a thing. The Spirit had to take over. The God of Israel had to show its power.

75 Oh, yes, there'll be a Goliath somewhere. We've had one not long ago. We've got some today, I don't understand why. We've got the greatest intellectual, the best-dressed crowds. We've got the best theological seminaries, some of the finest trained men that ever came out. They've trained choirs until they can sing "How Great Thou Art" till archangels couldn't compare with them hardly. Oh, they're trained in the very best of schools and everything like that, knowing all about it. But when it comes to the time of the supernatural, they know nothing of it. God sent a challenger out to show which was right, to show that that thing was wrong.
Brother, I say this with godly love and respect: one of our sons of Kish, head and shoulders above all the other evangelists, was called by a Mohammedan the other day and challenged to the Word of God, and trembled in his shoes, and left the grounds. Oh, my. What's the matter? It was something besides theology. It had to bring the supernatural power of God into it. He knowed nothing about it, same as it was in the days of Saul.

76 But listen, you true believers in Christ, you true Christians that believe in God and the supernatural, all the time Saul was training this big army and all these intellectuals coming up, God had a little David out there somewhere, feeding his father's sheep on sheep food (the Word), not on theological weeds. Right. He happened to be standing by when that happened. Oh, my!
They wanted to give him a seminary experience. Saul said, "Come here, maybe my armour would fit you."
He said, "Take the thing off of me."
"Oh, I'll make you a bachelor of art and give you a doctor's degree."
He said, "I don't know nothing about it. Take the thing off of me. But let me tell you something, I've got this slingshot."
"Well, that's no compare..."
"But looky here, one day a lamb was out there feeding. One of my father's sheep was out there feeding, and a lion come in and got it and packed it off. And I took this slingshot, and I trusted in the God of Israel, and I went after him, and I knocked him down and slew him and brought that lamb back." Said, "A bear come in and got a kid and started off with him, one of my father's, and I put the rock in a slingshot. Just a little bitty thing, but I went after him. I wasn't trusting in the slingshot but I was trusting in the power of the God of Israel." Amen.

1 Samuel 17:34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:

1 Samuel 17:35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.

1 Samuel 17:36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.

1 Samuel 17:37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

1 Samuel 17:38 And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.

77 What is that? F-a-i-t-h i-n J-e-s-u-s. That's right. Trusting in the power of the God of Israel. "And I knocked that bear down, took the little sheep out of his mouth, and took it back." He said, "And how much more... I'm a deliverance minister, I know what I'm talking about."
Listen, they got some little Davids in the world today. They may not be recognized by Sauls, that's true. But there's some little Davids in the world that's pastoring and feeding God's sheep sheep food. And one day a great big cancer come in and got one. The doctor said, "Why, he's gone."
But that little David said, "I don't know, I ain't got very much, just a prayer of faith. But I'm coming after you, because you're my father's sheep. I got faith. Hallelujah! I'm coming after you."
There was a paralytic stroke hit one. He said, "I don't know how I'm going to get it, but I'm coming after you. You're one of my father's sheep." Hallelujah!
Don't reject the King of Israel. Glory! Whew.

78 He didn't have very much, but he had faith in the God of Israel. I tell you, they had rejected. They had all their choirs and trained scholars and theology, but when it come for the supernatural, they were stunted. They didn't know nothing about it. Why didn't David know this gallant man? Because he was feeding in another pasture. That's right. He was training under another atmosphere. One day a sickness came in and got one of father's sheep was going to take it to a premature grave.
These little Davids said, "I don't know how I'm going to do it."
They said, "Oh, nonsense, that little slingshot."
"I might not know how to do it, but it's a promise and I got faith in it, so I'm coming after that lamb."
And he brought it back. Hallelujah! Oh, my. What we need tonight is to get away from all of this man-made theology, and bring the king back in the faith in the Son of God. Yes, sir. Don't you worry.

79 They were afraid to publish the meeting in South Africa. Joseph Boze did it. When ten thousand Mohammedans sat there and seen a little old, twisted boy, all twisted up like that, and wobble up to the platform, not even in his right mind, but when they seen the Holy Spirit tell him who he was, what happened and what done it... And when he got through praying, he straightened right up like a man, like that. Ten thousand Mohammedans laid their trophies to the ground, and accepted Jesus Christ as personal Saviour. Yes, sir.
Look at Tommy Osborn, Oral Roberts, men who feed the flock on sheep food. The days of miracles is not past, as says the theologians. If the days of miracles is past, the day of God is past. God is a miracle. Certainly. There you are, sheep food.

80 Oh, my poor dejected friend, the devil might've took you, sister, out yonder to a place where you never do desire to let your hair grow. Might get you to a place where you think that some pastor is nonsense when he's preaching you pure holiness the way you should dress. Some of you men out there that goes around and does these things that you ought not to do... And you men that'll let your wife do a thing like that and smoke cigarettes, I got little respect for you, even as a man. Now, that's exactly right.
You know, a man's the head of the house, as long as he takes his place. But I like to see a man a man. A man's not judged by how many muscles he's got; that's beast. A man's not judged by the brawny muscles, but he's judged by the bags in the knees of his pants where he's been praying. That's what takes a man.

81 A man is character. Not beast, but character. I've seen men that weighed two hundred pounds didn't have an ounce of man in him, grab a baby out of a mother's arms and ravish her.
Any man would give a woman a cigarette is little and low-down, and knowing that that's one of the greatest fifth columnists that's breaking the backbone of our nation. And these cigarette factories and everything out here, putting out cigarettes and whiskey, and then they take and write off all their income tax on these advertisements to put out more tommy-rot on television, and pattern these... O God, what's the matter with our country? It's rejected the leadership of the Holy Ghost, that wouldn't stand a minute for stuff like that. No wonder sickness and disease is on the rampage.

82 What we need today is a God, the rejected King, the King of Israel, to ride in among us like this.
He might've took you like that. There might be sick people here tonight that's going to stand in this prayer line. They might stand here. Cancer might've took you. The devil might've packed you out of the reach of a doctor, your beloved physician, and he's took you to a place where you can't come back. That may be so, but let me tell you something, brother. When I bring you in this prayer line tonight, I ain't got nothing but a little bitty slingshot called f-a-i-t-h. I'm coming after you. That's right. I'm coming after you. I've seen Him bring others back, He'll bring you back, too.

83 The God that could heal these people, other people, can heal you. You believe that? Yes indeedy, the same God still lives. And we're coming after him tonight.
And with the power and faith in Jesus Christ, we'll knock that devil down to the flat and bring him back. Why is it? It's the Father's sheep. It's God's little lamb that Satan stole away. Said, "He's got a lot of influence. I'll take him away from the church. I'll take her away from the church."
"Come on, David, let's go." Yes, sir. God promised us the victory. How much more will this uncircumcised, unbelieving Philistine ever stand and defy the Word of the living God. Yes, sir.

84 I'll be like the Hebrew children. Our God's able to deliver us, but nevertheless we won't bow to any images, of formal denominations or nothing else. I'll come, that's all I can do. I can't say I can bring it back, but I'm coming trying. I'm going to meet him in the name of Jesus Christ with a commission of an angel who come to me and said, "If you'll get the people to believe you and be sincere when you pray, nothing shall stand before your prayer." It's done for tens of thousands times thousands!
You poor little sick sheep tonight, I'm coming after you now, in the name of Jesus Christ. I want to bring you back, away from them old places, to the shady green pastures and the still waters, where you can lay down and put a straw in your mouth and look up towards God, say, "Oh, I got peace like a river. I got peace like a river." Yes. That's what we want to do. Oh, there's more, there's pastures.

85 How many preachers in here that believes in deliverance for the sick and the afflicted? Just look here. You're coming back, little lamb, tonight, because we're coming after you. Yes, sir. That devil of a lying called cancer, that devil of a lying called anything he wants to be called in the medical name, whatever he is, he's a devil. And we've got commission from Jesus Christ, "In my name they shall cast out devils." He better get going, because there's many here, and we're going to catch him tonight. We're coming to bring you back.

Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

86 How many has those prayer cards? Now raise up your hands. Where's Billy? Get in here, ever where he's at, Billy Paul, some of you. I want you that's got the prayer cards to stand right down here. Line up just exactly the way you was last night. Just those with prayer cards first, please, that's holding prayer cards. All right.
[Someone speaks in tongues and someone interprets: "Yea, the mouth of the Lord has spoken this night, and He doth say unto thee, 'If thou will be willing and obedient, yea, thou shalt eat the good of the land. But if thou doth refuse and rebel, yea, the sword of the Lord shall devour thee. For indeed the Lord doth delight to bless thee this night and heal thee and send thee on thy way rejoicing.'"] Amen. Amen.
Come believing, have faith. How far down the line was yours, sister? That's right.

Isaiah 1:19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:

Isaiah 1:20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

87 One time, David... Now, just you with the cards that was here last night. They didn't give out any tonight. We're going to give them out again tomorrow evening. You with the cards stand up here just a moment. You that's in your seats just sit real still, just a moment. We're coming after you, too. That's right. We're coming in the name of Jesus. You that's standing outside, we're coming after you, coming in the name of the Lord Jesus. I'm getting tired of this negative and half-way profession. Let's get to business with God. God promised it. God don't keep His Word, He's not God. He does keep His Word, so He is God.

88 One time when they were standing, David was speaking, Israel was trembling, the enemy was at the gate. Listen how scriptural. And while David was yet speaking, not knowing what was taking place, the Spirit fell upon a man. And he prophesied, and said, "Go down and lay at a certain place for an ambush." And the enemy beat his own self to death, right there. They caused a confusion and they whipped their own selves, and they only went in and got the spoils. Listen, you that's sitting out there in the audience, you don't have to be up here; just have faith and believe God. You know what'll take place? God will cause the enemy to leave you right where you're at. Confusion will come in, he won't know where he's at.
A man speaks out and says, "Hear the Word of the Lord. The mouth of the Lord has spoken tonight," and so forth like that, and tell them what to do, to obey the commandments of the Lord. "These signs shall follow them that believe; in my name they shall cast out devils, speak with new tongues; lay hands on the sick, they shall recover." All these things is promised. It's God's business and He is the King. Amen. Don't you love Him? Praise Him. How many loves Him?

Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

89 While they're gathering, let's sit real still in our seats now, while they're fixing the prayer line. Let's sing this song. All right. "I Love Him." All right.
I love Him, I love Him,
Because He first loved me,
And purchased my salvation
On Calvary's tree.
I want to ask you all in the prayer line, a word, all of you in the prayer line, sick, needy. Have you prayed over this sincerely? Have you prayed over your sickness? If you have, raise up your hand, you've prayed over it. You believe you prayed through on it, it's God's will to heal you? If you have, raise up your hand. If you prayed through on it, it's going to happen. Ain't but one thing to do, then, is cast it away from you when you come by. Oh, my!

90 I'm afraid the audience is going to think that just an evangelist is the only one has power to do this. I want a bunch of preachers to come here with me. You deliverance ministers that believes in this, come here, stand with me a minute. Come here, brethren. Just stand, make a little line along here. Come on, brethren, many of you. Come up here and stand along here, so you'll see that it's preachers also. I'm not ... it's not only me. My brethren here, they're just as much ordained to do this as I am or anybody else. They're servants of God. That's good.

91 Now, I tell you what let's do. The people says, brethren, that they have all prayed up on this, they're all ready. Then if they prayed up on it, prayed through on it, there's only one thing left, that's cast the enemy away when he comes by. You don't have to pray for them, they've already done the praying. Is that right? See? So that you'll see it ain't a hocus-pocus... It's not that; it's the power of God in His Word. These men are anointed men. They're men of God, and they pray too. Now, I tell you what, if they've prayed up on it, there is no need of us praying. Just lay our hands on them and cast the enemy away from them.

92 Look, little sheep. We're coming after you. Are you ready to go back? Let's go back to good health tonight. Everybody, real reverent.
How about forming a double line right along here? And let's pass these ... everybody through, and just cast the enemy away. Just say, "Satan, we'll..." What say? [A brother speaks to Brother Branham.] All right. We'll make a single line then.
All right, you brethren, move right up here. I want each one of you men to lay hands on these people as they come by with me. I want everybody out there to pray while this line is passing through, and I'll believe you'll see the glory of God.

93 Will you bow with me and pray with me? Each one of you Davids out now with your slingshot, come on. I don't believe in any crooked shooting. If you haven't got your sights lined up, zero them in right now. Let's go for the kill. Looky here, God's little sheep. It's not God's will that any of them should be sick, and they've prayed up. The only thing they need is a little help. That's all they need. "In my name they shall cast out devils." Amen. You believe that? Say "amen." Satan, you might as well turn them loose, they're on their road.

94 Let's all bow our heads now, and let this audience, these people, walk right through here. And when you come by, each one of you, when first minister touches you, raise up your hand. Praise God. It's over. Come right through here, and you'll go down off this platform the happiest person you ever knew. We've come to get you, are you ready to go? All right. Let us all pray now with our heads bowed. Come right up. That's the way... people that come up. See?

95 Do you love Him? Now be real reverent. Just get your seat a minute. I believe solemnly, with all my heart and all that's in me, that Jesus Christ the Son of the living God, makes every one of them well. Do you believe it with me? I believe the prayer of faith is prayed over them. The reason I did that, so that this congregation and your congregation that's here... These men of God who stands here, ministers anointed with the Holy Ghost, they have just as much right, just as much authority to pray for the sick and to cast out a devil as anyone else does in the world. Now, do you believe it? All right.

96 Now, how many is in here that's sick and hasn't got a prayer card, and you want God to heal you? Raise up your hand. Still a great bunch. If thou canst believe, all things are possible. Do you believe it?
These are handkerchiefs, I pray over them just a moment. I'm waiting for the Holy Spirit to do something. I thought maybe He would show me someone out in the audience, that you'd see each one that come by, that these men... They may not be able to see visions. They wasn't born for that purpose, but they got the same Holy Spirit, same God. But I haven't got no education. Some of those men are smart. But don't think they're the sons of Kish, though. They're men who believe in divine healing, believe the God of heaven. They're gallant men. Certainly they are. And they believe in this. They wouldn't stand up here and show you that they believe in it. I want the congregation, before this audience breaks and some of you be going home, I want you to know that your pastor has the same authority.

Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

97 And I want to show you that this is truth, that God made the promise. He is still God. Now you pray and believe.
You out there in the audience, see if the Holy Spirit's anointing, see if He's still here. Amen. Oh, I love this. Oh, isn't He wonderful? I just know He's with us. You just pray and say, "Lord, help Thou me. Help my unbelief."
I see a little woman sitting right down here, shadowed with death. She can't live unless God helps her. You're aware of that, aren't you, sister? You. Cancer. Little white rim of flowers around your hat. Do you have a prayer card, lady? You don't, you haven't had one? All right, sir. You don't need one. That's the truth, that's what you're suffering with. There's a dark shadow hanging over you. Do you believe me to be God's prophet? Then, Satan, in Jesus Christ's name, turn her loose. I come to meet you. There he goes! The shadow went away from her. Something happened to her. Now, the same Holy Spirit can tell her those things, don't you know He's healed her? Do you feel you're healed, sister? Stand up to your feet. Amen. There you are. There you are. If you'll just only have faith and believe, all things are possible to them that believe---if thou canst believe. Is that right?

Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

98 I see a little lady sitting right back in here looking at me. Never seen her in my life. But there... Can't you see that light hanging over that woman, right here? She's praying. She's suffering. She's got high blood pressure. She's got tumors. She's not from here, she's from Chicago. Do you want to go and get well now, sister? All right. Stand up to your feet. Little red-head there. Go home, be made well. Jesus Christ heals you.
You got it too, sister, on your trouble, too. God bless you. Go on home now and be made well, Jesus Christ heal you. Do you believe with all your heart? Somebody pray. Somebody just say, "Lord, let me touch Your garment." I don't know these people.
Yes, you. You're not sick, but you're praying for your friend, that man. You got a prayer card? No, you don't have one? Do you believe me to be God's prophet? You do? I wouldn't know that, is that right? Do you believe that paralyzed condition will leave your friend? Do you believe the fellow will get well? Do you believe it? Raise up your hand then, shake it to God. All right. May you receive just what you asked for.

99 How about somebody over in this direction? Do you believe with all your heart? Somebody over there is suffering, don't have a prayer card, raise up your hand. Just say, "I believe."
What about it, mister? Do you believe, believe me to be God's prophet? You've got a hernia, rupture. Do you believe that God will heal you? You're not from here either, are you? Toledo. That's right. I don't know you. Is that right? Raise up your hand if that's truth, all that's truth. All right, if you believe, go home and get well. I challenge you in the name of Jesus to believe the King is here.
This little lady sitting out here on the end, praying. She's not praying for herself; she's praying for her mother, sitting back from her there. That's right. Bleeding ulcers. Been in the hospital. All right, have faith now, and God will make you well. Amen. Do you believe with all your heart? Have it. Amen, sister, go home now and be well. See, that's what it takes, somebody to pray.

100 What was that, then? What did He say that was? Ulcers? That's a cancer demon passed.
Now just a moment. Sombody's praying. Ah, laying back there on that stretcher. He heard it. He heard this. That cancer demon passed through here just then. If you believe with all your heart, believe me to be God's servant, I tell you in the name of Jesus Christ, walk out of the stretcher and go home. She's doing it! Do you believe with all your heart? How many more believes? Raise up to your feet. Stand up on your feet. There she is, perfectly well. Do you believe with all your heart? Stand up to your feet, and receive the Lord Jesus, every one of you.
