Our abridged version of Schaff's history was scanned from the 1903 edition published by Charles Scribner's Sons, N.Y. Many typographical errors remain especially in volume 1., resulting from the scanning process. But while these need to be thoroughly edited for our next edition, the main work remains quite readable today. I have ventured to abridge Professor Schaff's text to a small extent, omitting his voluminous footnotes and most of his copious bibliographies of 18th- and 19th-century scholarly literature.
